      The Karrimor foam mat was still in good condition back then so it was ok after picking out some stones. I would have used a reflectix layer if any colder. Good thing about those mats is that they can be folded over double thickness where needed which is why they make them so long. The camera is the Yi Lite, not great but ok for back up/spare . do you put a twig/spacer in between the brake shoes? hydralic brakes can close up and it is super easy to accidentally pull the brake lever. Probably a twig would keep the spacing.

    • @73megalith
      @73megalith 3 года назад +1

      Never had to fit a spacer, the spring between the brake shoes works well if the brakes are clean and looked after. If it does happen then I would remove the brake shoes from caliper and use a plastic tyre lever to ease the brake piston back into the caliper and then reinstall the brake shoes. Thanks & Happy Trails, Chris.

    Hello Chris
    interesting idea using the tarp rather than a tent to save weight.
    I considered doing that myself for an up coming bike packing trip along the Pennine bridleway. Eventually i decided having just a tarp with the chance of high winds in the hills of deepest Yorkshire wasn't such a good idea. So i'm playing it safe and bought myself a lightweigt tent. 1.5 kg.
    Good bit of filming though, Thanks for sharing.

      @73megalith 5 лет назад

      Thanks..and I also would opt for a tent when camping in unfamiliar areas and changeable weather. Tarps are great for when you know what to expect on your trip. I had to bash those tarp stakes into the rocky ground so there's a good example of a near fail! Have a great trip.

      The frame bag is the Blackburn Outpost. I purchased mine from eBay. Bike frame is 20 inch and I got the large frame bag. Had some issues with zipper when the bag started sagging. I think this is easily fixed if I use extra Velcro on the top tube or lash the bag on with para cord as I have seen others do. Happy travels Alexandru, ATB Chris

      @@73megalith Thank you so much Chris for the quick reply. I thought it was a custom bag, since there are lots of bike triangle shapes and sizes, but you proved me wrong. Really like how you used the bike and front wheel to support the tarp. Surely this way it can`t be stolen.:D One suggestion though, you should also cover the entire handlebar and fork with the tarp, so that the rain doesn`t soak up your top tube bag and other gear hanging around. All in all, a very nice a simple tarp setup. Happy travels to you also Chris! Alex

    • @73megalith

  • @scothayes9220
    @scothayes9220 3 года назад

    Cool use a tarp. Question, could one use a Bungie around front brake as a guide line for seçuring tarp without removing front tire? The idea of putting forks in the dirt doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Leave the tire in place for more clearance and less stress on the forks. A not over tighten choker (as you used to stake down) would eliminate the removal of the time would it not? Can you share the tarp used? The design imo in my opinion is awesome. Thx for sharing.

    • @73megalith
      @73megalith 3 года назад

      Hi Scot, yeah you could use a bungie. Its whatever works best for you and the type of bike/forks you have. I take the wheel off as it props up the other end of the tarp. The fork design is such that the rebound dial is well away from the dirt and the dropouts are Helitaped, so no worries about damaging paintwork. The fork axle is stainless steel so again im not afraid it will get damaged. You can of course do a very similar set up with the bike upside down, use the rear wheel as a tarp prop, pull the tarp over the ftont wheel and guy it out using a bungie to one if the pedals. Always a way, thanks Scot.

      Hi Blake, I didn't have any concerns over food spoilage as this was an overnight camp and headed out after work that evening. In my Two Moors Way video I take some Babybell cheese and it keeps good for 2 -3 days. My frame bag and top tube bag are padded so this does help keep the summer sun from spoiling food. For multi day bikepacking trips like the Two Moors Way video I make use of the many shops on the route for fresh food. ATB Chris.

    Good video, lots of 'Ahaaa!' moments and little views of things a lot of people don't talk about in talky videos. Are you using some kind of front fork skewer/stake setup or are the fork ends just sorta rawdoggin' it in the soil?

    • @73megalith
      @73megalith 4 года назад +1

      Hi Jennifer, ha ha no rawdoggin forks! Use some Heli Tape or Gorilla Tape to save the lowers from scuffin raw! May not work with some forks depending on the dropout position and rebound dial placement. If the axle is above the ends of the lower fork legs then maybe pop out the rebound adjuster and place a piece of foam ( old sit pad or pipe insulation) under the fork lowers.
