I love how Denji's sharp teeth + tongue reminds me of Venom, especially after he licks one of the bad guys with his tongue. Furthermore, Denji's laugh reminded me of Carnage and how he's usually portrayed in the cartoons.
oh man...I was so sad to see the Devil Hunters being shot and dying like that, it's a shame, even though in the last episode they were all just shown, and were having a meal together.
When you think about Kobeni's backstory, girl probably being used by her abusive parent and now being forced to choose either sex work or devil hunter, if you think from the outside, yeah sex work is a lot more safer than devil hunter. But i think, why she choose devil hunter is because if she choose sex work, she will just back to being use by someone for money, she rather hunt a devil than being use by someone, she want to take a little bit of freedom for her life. That's why she is so quick to sacrifice Denji in the hotel
No matter how many times I see it, Katana Man's line about how "Devil Hunters are just humans,they can't beat the gun" and the subsequent massacre we're shown remain perfect setups for Makima's scene in the train. Just full on "Griffith looking with hawk-eyes from the other side of the hall" kind of freightening shit. Fujimoto is just that good at making these scenes stick in your mind,and it IMMEDIATELY makes you start asking so many questions. Just like the Fish(?) Devil in episode 5 that Aki and Himeno kill,Makima's attack is also a Junji Ito reference,specifically his story "Splatter Film",about a group of people that mysteriously start getting squashed into fine red paste after "getting caught" eating some weird kind of honey. Just an absurdly haunting scene. The fact that the hitmen got turnt to nothing but clothes just like Himeno is,how you say it,like poetry. It rhymes. It's always been my belief that the blindfold that Kurose and Tendo are forced to put on isn't as much to keep Makima's devil a secret,but moreso as a metaphor for how the government will go to any length to hide the many deaths they're willing to cause in order to keep their interests safe. Very subtle,Mr. Kojumbo,bravo. Kobeni's moment is such a fucking treat. I really love how hard the dramatic irony hits at the end: she asks for Denji to forgive her for what she tried to do,given that she saw firsthand what death truly means,but immediately takes life for granted when she says she wants to tell Himeno she quits. A lot of people simply don't learn. There's a lot of levels to how dark that moment is. Just twist the knife,why don't you,Fuji? Also,he tweeted out the other day that he initially wanted her to shield herself using Arai's corpse,but couldnt make it work. What is wrong with this man.

I just wanna mention, Makima doesn’t say “The food is to die for” at the end. For some reason the translator added that on their own. She just says that the food is good. That made it sound like she was joking or making a bad faith quip. In actuality, she was just making a normal statement which I think reflects her character a bit better.
I imagine it wasn't intentional, they just used a common phrase and diddnt realise how it could create a different interpretation. Regardless, it does create a double meaning that doesn't exist in Japanese, so its still a bad localisation.
Poor Denji got the raw power but not the experience and technique, katana man on the other hand feels like he understand some sword fighting and his hybrid form just amplifies it. It's Denji's loss for now.
I absolutely LOVED how they used Episode 8 to really dwell on all the pain and tragedy of Himeno's death and also to reinforce how her fight there is a parallel to what happened to the Leech Devil, with our perspective being in reverse. That allowed THIS episode to kick off by showing her final act being to bring Denji back to life the same way that she did to make sure he could kill the Eternity Devil. It made all the action and everything ramp up to where seeing Makima & Kobeni was shocking and terrifying. The most interesting thing is Makima got shot just after moping about needing to have an uncomfortable luncheon with Kyoto higher ups, because she only wants to eat where she can relax. As soon as that luncheon gets cancelled by the gunmen's attack, she's totally happy the entire time she's murdering people in a crazy ritual. To nail that in even more, after getting asked about how much of that she anticipated, Makima's last line in the episode is just her talking about how great the food is in Tokyo. *_She behaves like the entire event didn't even phase her at all, and she's just continuing the conversation she was already having before she got shot._*
I feel like it takes characterization from the Ghost Devil to say that it was Himeno's last action to pull Denji's cord. Maybe I'm wrong but the way I see it, it's the Ghost Devil being like "well, those guys suck and also, Himeno wasn't that bad". Maybe they were not besties but we know Devils can get attached to humans (see Pochita and Denji). That's my personal interpretation. The Ghost Devil being like "yeah, f*ck 'em up for us, Denji"

So for the snake devil, it works like an ammunition, if she uses the snake frequently, she might loses all of her ammo and can retire from using the snake, unless of course if she can sacrifice some skins, though is it enough? Aki can sacrifice a "little" piece of his skin because the Fox head is only exclusive for Aki to use because of his looks, we don't know how much skin other Devil Hunter have to give to the Fox. Also, if you haven't noticed it yet, the snake is made out of hands, that is your cue that it only wants nails. You have such a honey coated voice LMAO and make sharp points. You have to bear in mind that Devil's are living things, so you can do deals with them, so she did a deal with the snake that was only taking her nails because the two came to an excellent agreement. Also, I think the Katana Dude is trying to kill Denji because he was told not to damage the heart, but he tells the men to shoot the heart and his slash was a try at Denji heart which goes against what the plan of the Gun Devil.
as pochita is the chainsaw devil only pochita has chainsaw abilities so its not passed down but rather a fusion with denji which lets denji use pochitas power. like for example power is the blood devil which lets her use her blood to form weapons for example

I'm slightly (just a bit) blaming the subs because there are also many people getting confused over Makima's "this isn't mine" line because iirc "chsinsaw's people" and "this isn't mine" is a lot clearer in the manga
Okay, this just my theory and it's not a spoiler or anything. Maybe the reason why Makima just deliberately wanted to get shot is because people who are paid assassins, they don't fear their victims because to them, it's only one sided. So that in the assassins mind, they are good, but when Makima revives, they finally fear her because no human being can survive a shot to the head unless it's a devil. So they suddenly fear her, making her a bit stronger against them.

So I might be super wrong, but my theory is that Makima might be an angel. All we ever hear about on this show is devils, but surely that implies the existence of angels as well. Like I also was considering that Makima might be a devil or something, but if she was then why would she be soon keen on exterminating them? It very well could be that since no one is talking about possible angels that a big twist is going to be her being revealed as divine or some such thing. It could also explain why she's so nurturing to so many characters, but in a bizarre kinda inhuman way - and also why she gives off this terrifying aura. Biblical angels were so grandiose and incomprehensible, so glorious and otherworldly that they invoked terror by the mere sight of them, having to literally tell the humans they come before "Do not be afraid". I think that's the subtle uncanny feeling that Makima exudes is sort of a play on that. But I also could just be reading too much into things. Fun to think about though.
I just realize, Denji is pretty much a twisted Monkey D. Luffy. He just wants to be free and fights with joy. He is Luffy if you took away Luffys drive to protect his friends.
Himeno was completely dead after she disappeared. I like to think that the Ghost Devil, despite not having a loving bond with Himeno like Pochita does with Denji, maybe felt bad that it couldn't kill the Katana devil despite Himeno dying for that cause. And maybe it used its last bit of power to revive Denji, hoping he could honor Himeno's dying wish to protect Aki in its place
You know how in lots of shows there's all this posturing, but in the end neither side actually does much to the other because they need to fight again next week? Yeah, none of that here. When there's beef and opportunity, folk get DELETED, which makes the violence feel... more honest, I guess? Like it's actually meaningful at least.
I have watched 1000+ animes for 15 years and tons of movies and tv shows too and i am 100% convince that makima is an undercover devil. And i'm also sure that she wants the chainsaw dog pochita as a pet, ally, or she could be one of pochita's underling because i'm sure that pochita is some kind of special devil considering that some people and devils know the chainsaw devil and they want him dead alive or dead. The people who probably wants pochita dead are his enemies and the one who wants him alive is his underlings or allies in the past. The eternity devil also said how the chainsaw man got weaker meaning that pochita is probably a very strong devil before he met denji, because the eternity devil doesn't know that denji wasn't the chainsaw devil that he knows so he probably thought that he's fighting the actual chainsaw devil. Makima probably only wants pochita but since pochita is acting as denji's heart right now, makima is making sure that denji is close and attracted to her to keep pochita close to her. I'm guessing that she's gonna revive pochita into his original form in the future.

Makima was terrifying this ep. In the manga her power reveal was scary, but she was absolutely horrifying and eerie in motion in the anime.

When Katana Man says "Chainsaw's people," he's saying "Denji's people." He's just talking about the fact that (they thought) they killed the rest of the special divisions.

You have such a honey coated voice LMAO and make sharp points. You have to bear in mind that Devil's are living things, so you can do deals with them, so she did a deal with the snake that was only taking her nails because the two came to an excellent agreement. Also, I think the Katana Dude is trying to kill Denji because he was told not to damage the heart, but he tells the men to shoot the heart and his slash was a try at Denji heart which goes against what the plan of the Gun Devil.
I don't think it counts as confirmation or anything, but when Katana man said "Chainsaw's people are dead" he meant Denji's allies
as pochita is the chainsaw devil only pochita has chainsaw abilities so its not passed down but rather a fusion with denji which lets denji use pochitas power. like for example power is the blood devil which lets her use her blood to form weapons for example
How many reactors are gonna misinterpret the line "chainsaw man's people" into thinking more people like chainsaw man instead of what it actually means which is "the devil hunters that was WITH Denji"?
I'm slightly (just a bit) blaming the subs because there are also many people getting confused over Makima's "this isn't mine" line because iirc "chsinsaw's people" and "this isn't mine" is a lot clearer in the manga

Okay, this just my theory and it's not a spoiler or anything. Maybe the reason why Makima just deliberately wanted to get shot is because people who are paid assassins, they don't fear their victims because to them, it's only one sided. So that in the assassins mind, they are good, but when Makima revives, they finally fear her because no human being can survive a shot to the head unless it's a devil. So they suddenly fear her, making her a bit stronger against them.

So I might be super wrong, but my theory is that Makima might be an angel. All we ever hear about on this show is devils, but surely that implies the existence of angels as well. Like I also was considering that Makima might be a devil or something, but if she was then why would she be soon keen on exterminating them? It very well could be that since no one is talking about possible angels that a big twist is going to be her being revealed as divine or some such thing. It could also explain why she's so nurturing to so many characters, but in a bizarre kinda inhuman way - and also why she gives off this terrifying aura. Biblical angels were so grandiose and incomprehensible, so glorious and otherworldly that they invoked terror by the mere sight of them, having to literally tell the humans they come before "Do not be afraid". I think that's the subtle uncanny feeling that Makima exudes is sort of a play on that.
But I also could just be reading too much into things. Fun to think about though.

I'm learning this week that a lot of people don't know how to pronounce Aimer.
I just realize, Denji is pretty much a twisted Monkey D. Luffy. He just wants to be free and fights with joy. He is Luffy if you took away Luffys drive to protect his friends.
Himeno was completely dead after she disappeared. I like to think that the Ghost Devil, despite not having a loving bond with Himeno like Pochita does with Denji, maybe felt bad that it couldn't kill the Katana devil despite Himeno dying for that cause. And maybe it used its last bit of power to revive Denji, hoping he could honor Himeno's dying wish to protect Aki in its place
Poor Himeno. Despite sacrificing her entire body and life for her devil, her devil got one-shotted by a devil that only took a nail from its owner
You know how in lots of shows there's all this posturing, but in the end neither side actually does much to the other because they need to fight again next week? Yeah, none of that here. When there's beef and opportunity, folk get DELETED, which makes the violence feel... more honest, I guess? Like it's actually meaningful at least.

I have watched 1000+ animes for 15 years and tons of movies and tv shows too and i am 100% convince that makima is an undercover devil. And i'm also sure that she wants the chainsaw dog pochita as a pet, ally, or she could be one of pochita's underling because i'm sure that pochita is some kind of special devil considering that some people and devils know the chainsaw devil and they want him dead alive or dead. The people who probably wants pochita dead are his enemies and the one who wants him alive is his underlings or allies in the past. The eternity devil also said how the chainsaw man got weaker meaning that pochita is probably a very strong devil before he met denji, because the eternity devil doesn't know that denji wasn't the chainsaw devil that he knows so he probably thought that he's fighting the actual chainsaw devil.
Makima probably only wants pochita but since pochita is acting as denji's heart right now, makima is making sure that denji is close and attracted to her to keep pochita close to her. I'm guessing that she's gonna revive pochita into his original form in the future.
