Himeno's voice when she realizes that Aki dying is a very real possibility hurts so much to hear. Just the one line, where she can barely manage to call out for Aki, it hits so hard.
@@mayonnaise9993 that dude really hit you with a spoiler for no reason lol, I want see people reacting to the rest of the show, guys don't spoil the manga...
@@TamakoYT luckily Ive already read the manga, but I seriously dont see how its apparently impossible to just comment on the contents of the episode and not spoil things. Its so weird and frustrating. Gives a bad name to manga readers.
One of the best things about this is it shows the difference in how people face mortal fear. For the rookies: Arai shuts down & Kobeni keeps trying to act, which is an inversion of their normal social behaviours, because those tactics didn't keep them safe. For the superiors: Himeno knows she can rely on Aki, and how to be a balancing foil to him. Then when things get too tense, he'll risk his own life and she'll reactively try to prevent it because she's lost too many buddies before. …but Denji & Power don't change at all. That's because they don't die the way humans will, but also because their backgrounds are ones where trauma and survival were their expected normal, whereas all the other Devil Hunters got forced into those circumstances more recently. The writing for the characters and portrayal is SO good.
This is where Chainsaw Man excels at, the narrative tells you things just by putting characters in situations and letting the rest flow. In just 6 episodes we've learnt a lot about devils and how contracts work, and all of it by just seeing characters act in given circumstances. In this very episode, we learn devils are bound by contract not because this is some rule we are given that will be important later, but because this is essential to the villain's plan. Another example is Himeno, her flashbacks with Aki all serve a purpose to the general theme, instead of being given these flashbacks in her death scene ala Demon Slayer, these flashbacks are all relevant to her behavior in this arc, as this is a near-death situation that makes her think about all things, when she realizes they might die all these flashbacks come into place because now she is prioritizing Aki over Denji, and perhaps everyone else. And thus, Fujimoto turns flashback, usually done just to show info about the character, into a plot point that adds suspense. The beauty of this arc is that it plays a lot into fear and human nature, in the worst of situations we bring out our true behavior because in the face of death we don't care about keeping up appeareances. Himeno and Aki break down. Kobeni panics. Arai's strictness suddenly becomes flexible to ensure his own survival. Denji and Power stay the same, because they never hide anything about themselves.
@@deuce5546 So, Devils are bound to keep contracts because of their nature. It's an explicit bond and agreement between that human & that devil like we see with Denji & Pochita. Violation of that contract results in Death, and that aspect isn't a facet of anyone or anything else. The change in behaviour isn't from them not caring about keeping up appearances. When the brain is in a stress situation and nothing you can do results in giving it control, behaviour slowly inverts to the opposite in an attempt to gain control by using tactics that normally don't work. It's a stress response. Arai's motivation pushes him to stop acting rather than to keep acting, but it doesn't reduce his drive or perception of threat which is why he's isolated in a room having panic attacks. Kobeni starts acting on any possible option, no matter how unlikely, and treats those impulses as rational decisions that would be sufficient enough to make her act in normal situations. That's why her reasoning becomes increasingly contextually disconnected, and she accuses Power of being responsible and Arai of being a spy. It is a masterclass in writing, both in how the scenarios are set up and played out, as well as how all the characters communicate to one another. It's also important to contextualize that the conflict is between protagonists & antagonists, _primarily_ being humans & devils, respectively. Characters like Denji and Power are a middle ground, so roles like heroes & villains aren't a clearly established line, because small contextual shifts will always flip those roles. Pochita & Denji vs. Yakuza is initially a circumstance where that's reversed, but Denji is always the protagonist. Japanese stories are particularly nuanced around that for a number of reasons, primarily being that civil war 600 years ago defined a lot of how both sides of a conflict are portrayed. That's why most stories have flashbacks around character deaths to contextualize antagonist characters at the end of their story. Chainsaw Man uses them at varying points where that instead drives a current character behaviour that's about to be leveraged - Power's attachment to Meowy, Aki's & Himeno's shared interdependence and coping mechanisms, etc.
@@deuce5546 You're totally right on how Fujimoto presents exposition that is also directly tied to the villains motivation here. "Kill denji, I let you go." It's a simple concept that also further helps us understand contracts, and only giving himeno a short line about how it kills either side. He didn't even need to do an info dump on it because he planned the story accordingly to present it naturally
Eh, he isn't being sentimental but rather thinking of the long-term goal. Having the chainsaw devil by your side when you are trying to fight the fucking GUN DEVIL is for sure at least going to up the odds, but the second Denji stops pursuing the same thing as him, it's game over for Denji. I'd say it shows just how much determination Aki has for his goal if anything
@@denzelherrman Aki isn't that sentimental over people he barely knows, if this was later on, I'd understand but I believe up to this point he was literally doing what he says, saving someone who could be of help with his goal. I believe this indirectly made them bond a little if anything, becoming a turning point for their relationship, be it what they wanted or not
Welcome to the incredible experience that is Kobeni,an absolute mess of a person. The fact that her first full sentence in the entire story is her just dumping out all her trauma never fails to make me laugh,no matter how many times I see it. I honestly think Fujimoto struck gold with Kobeni when he made her, despite the impressions one might have when you first see her here. In a way,I think she becomes the centerpiece that keeps the whole story grounded, and steals any future scene that she's in for me. There's a reason why she's a fan-favourite,and has spawned countless memes! Power immediately bursting into laughter as Kobeni is having a mental breakdown will never not be funny. She's definitely the type of person to write "kys" under posts of people's struggles. Her plan to become the Prime Minister so she can make humans suffer by taxing the hell out of them is just as genius,I don't know how Fujimoto thinks of this shit. My favourite parts of the Eternity Devil arc have always been the little flashbacks of Himeno and Aki,they really showcase how good Fujimoto is at brevity and making you understand these people: it's the little things in life that keep them going, like something as absurd as sticking gum to a person, or even trying to form a bond over something as terrible as a nicotine addiction. Shit hits, and I'm glad they adapted it well. Also,he's definitely not making any paralles here, with the government exploiting a bunch of young people's financial/familial troubles,or their plea for revenge against a mssacre their country was subjected to by promising them a human pay and benefits, only to then send them out to the front lines to be slaughtered for their interests...absolutely not the case. For sure. Loved the camera movements in this episode especially,it really made it feel like the hotel's hallways were some impossible space, and the visuals for Denji's final jump were just sick. The fact that he thought of a possible way to kill him by making him beg for suicide is so damn metal, and it really shows that, while he may not have had an education,he's very street-smart about dealing with devils, given how long he's been at it.
The thing about Kobeni is that she is the normal one. She doesn’t have some tragic backstory like Denji or Aki. She’s a normal human with a shitty and all too real backstory in this insane world where devils run rampant.
It will probably take me some time to get there. Anime only, the first impression, though I can see where she is coming from and what type of character she is meant to be, I still thoroughly hate her for being so utterly useless..

But don't worry, your fears will also be put to rest as the story develops! That's just the thing with Fujimoto's works: you end up appreciating a lot of their facets a lot more once you reach the end and understand the bigger picture.
@@jesper6765 I think that's one of the best parts of this arc. They all were. Aki just wandered around in circles. Himeno was coping with a nicotine addiction and I guess she hurt Eternity. You had some very similar reactions to me with this episode. Even as a manga reader so I know what's going to happen each episode, there's so much that Mappa adds to it with the animation, the lighting, and the MUSIC. I loved this part in the manga because it really feels like a turning point for Aki and Denji's relationship, since they started out on such a bad note, then went from that to just barely tolerating each other, to now this. It really gets me in the feelings and they definitely did it justice in this episode, I'm really happy. I definitely felt emotional when the ending kicked in as well, not just because it ended on such an emotional scene but also because it's so sad knowing we have to wait another week for the next one!
Aki in ep 2 wanted to abandon Denji so bad and now look at him He knew what Denji is after he killed the bat devil and how survivors responded to the man with chainsaws

everyone saw Kobeni, like a child whining continuously, whiny, scared, panicked, desperate. Kobeni is us as people who feel there, what Kobeni feels is purely from human fear when we are in that situation. Kobeni naturally like that.
I love watching best girl Kobeni freak out. All that's missing is her yelling "Zoinks!" right before hopping into Himeno's arms as she shivers in fright. 😉 Seriously though, Mappa's doing a great job with the hotel arc. The gradual descent into fear-induced madness, the sense of despair and desperation at the episode's climax.... man. Also, I love that they kept the scene with Aki getting "revenge" on that woman for Himeno's sake. That cracked me up when I first read it in the manga too, lol. 😂
I think I'm dumb because when I read the manga I didn't even realize that all the 8's means infinite. and she discovered it before the devil reveals it's name 😭
kobeni relates to denji and fujimoto shows us that even having a family can still be hell at times. denji had a life of hell because he had no family. but having a family doesnt mean it cant be hell as shown by kobeni's story

I find it interesting that manga readers think the pacing is slow...but it's all actually quite normal or what seasonal should be...3 or 4 chapters an episode. The manga got tons of complaints for it being overhyped cause the pacing was too fast...more and more people would tell those people you speed read to catch up to the hype moments so they could blast it as not that good...turns out they likely were speed reading cause the pacing seems about what the manga is. We sometimes have to remember we run through a story faster if reading and not taking things in.
Kobeni is the most underrated character in CSM she chose fighting Devils over starting an Onlyfans a True Chad all so her brother can afford to go college
"why is it 8? floor 8? 8:18? what's up with that number?" TL;DR it's Floor 8 because it's a reference to an anime The reason why it's "Floor 8" specifically is because in the manga, this arc is called "The Endless Eighth Floor", a title which references the infamous "Endless Eight" from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. This is a series of 8 episodes in the show that repeat almost the exact same plot and dialogue for 8 full episodes in a row (with some minor changes to animation), most episodes of which are commonly skipped while watching the series due them being complete repeats of a previous episode. These 8 episodes, along with the entirety of the show having a strange chronological/episodic order, makes the 'correct' way to watch the show a highly debated topic. It's a bit of an old meme in the anime community, and is quite a controversial part of the series as a whole. I would strongly recommend anyone who is reading this comment and hasn't watched The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya go and do it right away, it is a genuine classic and will always be a favourite of mine. Though it might be worth finding a "recommended watch order" online to make the story a little easier to digest.
The state of the two rookies is easy to understand, they don't know Denji, and Denji is also a rude guy, so it's normal for them to have such a reaction when the demon proposed the contract. Just because Denji is the main character should not negate the reactions of other characters in certain circumstances. They're not bad, just overstressed.🙃

everyone saw Kobeni, like a child whining continuously, whiny, scared, panicked, desperate. Kobeni is us as people who feel there, what Kobeni feels is purely from human fear when we are in that situation. Kobeni naturally like that.
W pfp W opinion
nah f that if you are a devil hunter for you own hand you can be like a weak clwon the devil like that so wtf
I love watching best girl Kobeni freak out. All that's missing is her yelling "Zoinks!" right before hopping into Himeno's arms as she shivers in fright. 😉
Seriously though, Mappa's doing a great job with the hotel arc. The gradual descent into fear-induced madness, the sense of despair and desperation at the episode's climax.... man. Also, I love that they kept the scene with Aki getting "revenge" on that woman for Himeno's sake. That cracked me up when I first read it in the manga too, lol. 😂
Let me tell you this. The ride hasn't even started yet but girl we're in for one hell of a ride.
I think I'm dumb because when I read the manga I didn't even realize that all the 8's means infinite. and she discovered it before the devil reveals it's name 😭
3:15 W that you caught onto that
I like the fact that you understand Arai and Kobeni.
kobeni relates to denji and fujimoto shows us that even having a family can still be hell at times. denji had a life of hell because he had no family. but having a family doesnt mean it cant be hell as shown by kobeni's story
i've been waiting for so long to hear kobeni speak. man i love her voice actress. it's kind of natural
*When Power start laughing her ass off to Kobeni, it’s so hilarious. I can’t contain myself, so i joined her.*
Good catch with 8 being the infinity symbol, I never picked that up
Ah yes Kobeni greatness is upon us lmao
She hasn’t even reached her final form
The start of a legend
I love how much your channel has grown, you deserve it! Really appreciate your reactions!
I suspect Denji is about the same age as Aki's younger brother, Aki is a such good big brother for Denji and He CARES about protecting Denji
nop, he know what would happen if makima see how this 3 clown kill her own and most powerfull tool of all she would kiil them all in facts in facts if they can just lucky shot denji and we know that imposible he is a op devil, makima would just kill them for fools.
"He's SPYcy." got me way more than it should have.
"Trauma dumping? +L+ratio"
-Power
"I'm through with owing anybody anything." Damn. Denji feels indebted to Aki for the save but to some degree resents him for it. Denji spent basically all of his life as little more than a slave to the Yakuza over a debt he never accrued himself. Being indebted to anyone for any reason now that he is his own man is unacceptable to him.
Poor Kobeni, having to face infinity is something that would definitely drive someone like her to rash actions.
she was kind of annoying
@@Jeueienhjwie you acting like you wouldn't be the same in her situation. She literally never wanted to become a devil hunter in the first place. Ofc she'd be scared
@@cheeseohi mean u cant blame the anime onlys finding her annoying af at first when shes screaming every 2 seconds. If denji was like that he wud get shit on to oblivion lol scared/coward troupes are never popular in anime
@@MNM2INC she wasn't popular in the manga at first either tbf
You’re such a great reactor!! Thanks for posting the day of release every week!!
Everybody's like Guys we are trap here and Denji's like it would be waste not to sleep on this sweet bed 🛏️💗✨笑
its confirmed .. MAPPA is the cliffhanger devil!
"if i win the nobel prize, i'll ban every animation studio who make 20 minute episodes. it has to be ATLEAST 45 minutes long"
- power (probably, that sounds like something she'd say)
Right, I’m sure the severely underpaid animators would be thrilled to work even harder than they already do.
@@lalalarose8197 the point is that Power wants to make humans suffer, of course shed try to force animation studios to make 45 min long episodes no matter what lmao
Nice catch on the eight on the clocks meaning the infinite!
Wow! You quickly realized that when you turn the number 8 on its side it becomes ∞.
2:48 Power is a Devil you know, she still likes the human's suffering
3:19 Ive never thought of this before your a genius
Damn now that was some good thinking, I didn't even think of that while reading the manga lol 3:16
Kobeni is so extra lmao. Like I feel bad for her situation but damn xD. Power laughing at her got me dead, we all have that one friend who laughs at our misfortunes lol.
I mean your reactions are extra to why not delete your channel only 5 viewers?
@@anonymouspanda4383 My reactions are completely natural and I'm a new RUclipsr do you expect me to get views from the jump? Also I've got more than 5 views mate, 5 more than you have anyway. When you start posting I'd love to see how well you do, otherwise keep being tough online behind your keyboard.
I was rereading this part in the manga and The Infinity Devil remindes me a lot of the Dwarf in the flask from FMAB
9:27 ouch 😭
i almost died 😂
idk why that happened i’ll try to figure that out for future videos😭😭😭
14:47 TRUE, actually true though people are real quick to judge when those same people would do the same or worse
What an insane episode, this show is just next level, I love it so much! :']
I can't believe I didn't pick up on the 8 being symbolic of infinity. Even after learning the name of the demon...lol
This episode should have been titled "Kobeni Needs To Chill."
Thank you, I just realized why 8th floor because it is infinity symbol and the devil looks like that number too
I really hope the rest of the squad recognizes Denji after this, bunch of assholes treating my boy like that.
What a call connecting the 8 with infinite... my dumbass could never
I really glad MAPPA make himeno so good
u were right about the 8 being infinity, cuz in the manga its called the infinity devil not the eternity thats why so many 8s
Kobeni is the most underrated character in CSM she chose fighting Devils over starting an Onlyfans a True Chad all so her brother can afford to go college
Denji is the GOAT
"why is it 8? floor 8? 8:18? what's up with that number?"
TL;DR it's Floor 8 because it's a reference to an anime
The reason why it's "Floor 8" specifically is because in the manga, this arc is called "The Endless Eighth Floor", a title which references the infamous "Endless Eight" from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
Your reactions are always so positive and great. Can't wait for the next episode and reaction!
Btw I think a few episodes back you said to gives you a heads up when “that” scene comes up and I think it gonna be next episode.
Hi Alana, I love your videos and started watching you from the your name reaction you did. Please watch "I want to eat your pancreas" too. It's my favorite movie
Unexpeted reaction, episode 7 is my favorite of this season and I think it will be a nice relief to this emotional release
Aki my boy🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
1) the more fear them, the stronger the devil..this apply to all devils
2) your reaction to laugh at kobeni suffering is what we want 🤣🤣 don't get annoyed and hate her like some others..she needs us to laugh at her
4:21 I should say that but "Himeno's eye" :))

4:18 *Eye
pleaaaaase fix the ocassional popping sounds that happen in some of your videos, like the one at 9:30 on the left, it's so painful :(
We need more mommy makima, she has my heart.
don't
The ending song is called “Into the backroom”. Which is a really clever song to play considering they are trapped on a never ending floor of an apartment building.
Into the Backroom was the ending to the last episode. The ending to this episode is Rendezvous
you can use "it" for the devils, "they" really confuses me as a non-native speaker
1:11 Kawaii Alana😳
Kobeni AKA Too Kawaii to Live Too Sugoi to Die!
LESSS GOOO
