I'm from the Netherlands. My grandpa is 92 years old. When he was a teenager, he'd be playing in a field next to traintracks. He was about 60 feet away when a german transport train got taken out by a Spitfire. Up until his 80's he's always lived in areas where no prop-planes would fly, because their sound would make him dig his fingernails in the chair he sat on, his heart would race, reliving that moment. After that his hearing got bad enough he couldn't hear them fly over anymore.

The things you see in war are horrific but as I have watched these videos, it’s the audio that has stuck with me the most and made the footage all the more real and terrifying. The crackling of gunfire whizzing past you, the never ending artillery thundering off in the distance, the frantic shouting of soldiers fighting for their lives, and the worst of them all: the whirring blades of those horrible drones. If watching an hour of footage has left that kind of impression on me, then I can’t even imagine what it’s like to live through that hell for months or years on end.
I just want you to know that your valor and strength has not gone unnoticed by the world. Most of us in the West are cheering and praying for you every step of the way. History will remember your courage and sacrifice for decades to come. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦

You have to take into account these are volunteers who are not in the Ukraine or US military. They are more or less private contractors without the contract. So within the laws of the GC they can technically wear and use whatever equipment they bring and is available to them and their is very little to no cod win what you can wear or the equipment you can use so a lot more is possible.

@@SoloKyoto Yes, it is true. You can hop on over the the International Legion's website (or literally any other unit in Ukraine, such as Da Vinci Wolves, 3SAB, etc), right now, and look through how the process works. You could ask me direct questions, considering I've been there, done that.
You have to sign a contract with the government, whether that's through the regular Army, National Guard, or GUR. You formally enlist in the Ukrainian military. You get your "green book" and everything. The days of just showing up and fighting are LONG gone.
Your comment was also completely stupid, to be frank. The Geneva Conventions have fuck-all to do with "what equipment you wear" beyond perfidy, cameras aren't something regulated. The original commenter talking about Afghanistan was referring to the United States own rules about carrying personal electronics; another case where I've been there, done that. Ask me whatever you want about Iraq or Syria, I'll gladly tell you about it.

If you want to insulate the heat from the generator, you can both vent the exhaust away with a pipe (if available) and reduce the radiative/convective heat energy by having a frame with an internal fabric, an air gap, and then another piece of fabric. Kind of like how a box spring is built or a matchbox. The air layer is a poor conductor, so the top fabric stays much cooler than the bottom fabric, which prevents the exhaust heat and generator heat from hitting the top fabric. (I wish I could just draw a diagram)
----fabric----
. Air.
----fabric---
. Air.

If you have thermals… the enemy can be assumed to have them as well. That generator is a “hot spot” even if covered with Camo netting and invisible to the naked eye. As close as it is to the men drawing its electricity. It’s an artillery magnet. A solid piece of wood or logs etc… while making the generator harder to access might be worth the time and effort. Something to disguise and obscure that heat signature of a drone overhead

    • @Ratclan

As far as fear and paranoia goes, our bodies have a two step verification system to initiate unless it is a ptsd related trigger. Our heads monitor our bodies and visa versa before they order an adrenaline dump. If you can keep one below the stress reaction threshold, nothing adverse will happen to you.
Also, you have to be able to decompress. How fast you amp up doesn't matter, if you can't switch it off when the craziness abates, it just gets to ya.
Fortunately, you don't get the kind of shelling that is a guaranteed trip to a padded room, that's where it is timed to give constant narrow windows of escape and comes like clockwork at low intensity (no barrage).

I was deployed in Iraq for a year and loved what I did and then I got shot in the left shoulder and arm and since my camp was so secluded so I had to be sent back home to Canada on a plane carrying fallen soldiers so I could get the help I needed. But even after all that I still felt like I had to go back to complete what I was there to do in the first place so 3 months later I was again sent to Iraq to the same group that I was with before and every single one of them were still alive and kicking and 1 year later all of us were sent home together as one. I hope that you are doing good and that you will have safe travels to wherever you’re called to next.

@@Dexedus It sounds harsh, but those who for money go to someone else's land to kill them in a war of aggression, are despicable and unworthy of sympathy. The point isn't that everybody must see them that way, but that doing it is fair/just/deserved. Being "poor" doesn't mitigate it at all. The cases where responsibility can diminish are those of abject misery, with imminent risk for physical survival. Scenarios like e. g. 'if I don't go and fight there, my children or I would die from starvation'. Or 'Kadyrov will murder my mother if I refuse'.
There is a big difference between being poor and being threatened in the aforementioned way by misery or circumstances. Going to Ukraine to kill Ukrainians for money, which then would allow X to buy a Lada, or an apartment, or give this or that to his wife or children, in practice is at the same level of fair contemptibility as wanting the money for lots of Vodka.

It’s just so baffling to think that 80 years later the same thing is happening in the same place of the world. Your trenches are probably in the same spots as others from that time period. But one thing that’s spooky to think about was it even in the hell of WWII night time would offer some respite but nowadays that’s no longer the case with thermal optics and NVGs. Cant imagine how much more awful it would be with that tech on that scale and level of brutality.

Tip, when the fuel container is full it is easier to refuel a fuel tank if the fuel containers opening is at the top as it is tilled forward.in the video it's at the bottom. It is easier to control the flow and not as much fuel is spilled. As well cur only the bottom off the bottle to make a funnel not half. Gives longer reach therefore less spillage.

If I had to choose one war in history to fight in, it would not be this one.
The attritional trench warfare, the totally lame and op artillery meta, constantly being watched by drones and have no power to do anything about it. Having to e-beg for good equipment etc...
Survival in all war is just a matter of luck, but it seems especially so in this one.

@ConfidentMelon yeah what's crazy is a good chunk of all armies until really recently would just die from illnesses which spread quickly. Any wound would likely put you on the ground, medical staff were incompetent and ignorant, if there even were any. Starvation happened a lot. Any prisoners would be enslaved or killed.
