Nice tribute to a severally underrated railroad!
Great video!
Cool
Unless it’s a repaint, are we guys seriously going to ignore the fact that a Monon red F3 was in preservation at least for a while
The Monon F Units in question are aren't actually Monon. They are 2 of 4 former Milwaukee Road F Units that were purchased by the Indiana Transportation Museum in 1983. (two of which, Milwaukee Road F7A no. 83A & Milwaukee Road FP7A no. 96C, were painted in restored to working order for ITM's 1983 Indiana State Fair Train. In 1985, these 2 locomotives were painted into Monon colors. [in honor of the Monon Railroad, which the FairTrain was operating on at the time.]) 83A & 96C were used regularly by ITM for numerous excursions. 96C was pulled from service following a mechanical failure in 1999 due to cracked flywheels. 83A was later repainted by ITM into NKP colors in 2015. The other 2 Milwaukee Road F Units ITM had (MILW F7B no.68 & MILW F7A no. 72A.) were used for parts & were never used by ITM. There were plans to restore 72 back to working order to replace 96C, with hundreds of hours being put into the locomotive's restoration between 2007 & 2018. (with the locomotive almost finished, in a operational state & only needed body work & break work.) This work was never completed. Following ITM's demise in 2018, the F units were seized by the City of Noblesville. 83A was retained and used very briefly by the Nickel Plate Express in 2019 & is currently out of service in storage. 68B, 72A & 96C were acquired by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society in October of 2021. Hope that answers your question.
