Never saw Clapton do anything that ever blew me away.
But this man, he’s incredible.
Cream was epic. I put more praise into people that originate material than those that regurgitate renditions of it.
Cream wasn't Eric though, it was Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker.
Clapton was only good when he was on heroin
@@Bellabaddi Surely you don't mean Clapton was an originator...
@@DanSharpIBD 🤣
I saw Eric Claptout with Albert Lee in his band , 1983, Hammy O , London .. One of the BEST Concerts i ever went to !
Saw him with Clapton at Glasgow Apollo in 1980 on what would be the “Just one night” tour and album.
Not saying he blew him off the stage as Clapton is a pretty accomplished player, but Eric’s solos were like listening to paint dry after Albert’s.
Looking forward to seeing Albert again this year when he plays Kinross.
Thanks for another great transcription Levi, much appreciated!
In the name of balance, I would like to offer a contrary perspective to many of those here in the comments section.
In order to appreciate Clapton's contribution to the art of electric guitar playing, one needs to understand the chronology of the instrument and its pivotal figures.
The John Mayall and the Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton album ('Beano' album) was recorded in May 1966 and released in July of that year. Clapton took the influence and language of his electric blues guitar heroes (Freddie King, BB King and Buddy Guy among many others) and distilled them into an authoritative and unique voice. Listen to his solo on 'Have You Heard' as a clear example. If there is an earlier recording of a guitarist playing with such harmonically rich tube driven distortion, I haven't heard it. This is the birth of modern rock guitar tone and the first magical pairing of a Les Paul and a cranked Marshall.
Nobody else was playing with this kind of attitude, aggression and tone at this time. When Jimi first came to England, he wanted to meet Eric largely because of this record. It is hard, if not impossible to quantify the influence and impact of this album on blues and rock music.
To anyone quick to criticise or dismiss Clapton, I would recommend listening to this recording, and in particular the tracks 'Double Crossing Time', 'Have You Heard' and the two instrumental offerings 'Hideaway' and 'Steppin' Out'. Then listen to his tone and phrasing on the debut album from Cream, 'Fresh Cream'.
If Clapton never played another note after these two albums, he would still need to be considered a giant in the history of the instrument.
This is of course all just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own.
Yeah, it's click bait, for views. Clapton was hugely influential for his time. Albert Lee, not so much.
If you only employ musicians who aren't as good as you, your band will never be any good. Clapton knows this, and that's why he'll put his ego to one side and hire session musicians who blow him out of the water with their technical ability. His concerts will then be memorable, as people here have already commented.
Awesome. His timing and punctuation are flawless
When Eric Clapton solos, you enjoy that glorious moment.
Because it means that he’s finally stopped “singing”…
lol
The run at 1:30 should be illegal
Wanted Dead or Alive. 🎸
I saw Clapton on tour and Albert was the backup guitarist. Totally burnt Clapton’s cookies.
Albert Lee has always been one of my heroes but this is just an incredible display of melodic sensibility and technique.
Thank you, Levi! And video clips are why you became one of my heroes as well.
This has long been a personal favourite of mine... Even before I got into country music I was inspired so much by Albert's truly amazing playing on this track!
Having recently got myself a copy of your country guitar method compilation and now really getting to know how to play country guitar confidently.. And having a hell of a lot of fun with it! I was hoping you would tab Albert's jam over cocaine. And it's almost as if my thoughts had been heard!
Thank you so much, Levi! For all your work! I get better at guitar because of you!
Albert is so tasteful, and always brings great tone. It's rare to hear him mostly sticking to pentatonics & of course he sounds great.
My favourite country guitarist!
If memory serves he first came to prominence with the band Head, Hands & Feet, alongside Chas Hodges (and possibly Dave Peacock at a later date)
On their Xmas 1982 special he joins them for a rip-roaring version of his signature tune, Country Boy
Any doubts of Chas, Dave or Mick’s chops laid to waste!
He has the same problem I do with bumping the open strings, very relatable
Yeah yall are identical 😂
Thanks for blessing me today with this video
This is Great, thanks Levy!
beautiful, seems like they are enjoying this to the max too
Grew up with Clapton in all his phases. He is only a few years older than me I'm sure. LOVE him to death, but never considered him a great guitarist.
Absolutely legend though!
Beautiful
Wow, his phrasing and Peter Framptons phrasing are very similar and very melodic.
Great transcription
Well he does have a signature EB guitar …
Fantastic and tasty playing - nice to see Albert doing something aside his country stuff. And on a side note - glad the super toxic poster is not spamming anymore the comment section
I was actually surprised he took the L and delete it.
This guy's touch sounds closer to jj Cales style than most.
Wow, I always thought of Albert Lee as a bit of a country and western rthymn guitarist.
I was never impressed by Mr. Clapton and when he went full racist on stage (and by the way afterwards never really apologized for it) , I completely ignored 'm!
effortless noodling. and that guitar!
Clickbait much? ;)
Funny u say...eric couldnt keep the day job , he got fired😂😂😂😂😂
Dam dude
Never ever understood the allure so many saw in E C's playing, at best the guy is average and comparisons with others though not really fair are pointless. If technical proficiency is a yardstick to measure skill by, Clapton doesn't have it, his playing lacks imagination, is rife with cliche and isn't even played that well. I do quite like some of his stuff, but he's no maestro or grand-master guitar player, and Albert Lee provides all the answers why in this video.
Albert always sounds better on a Tele than he does on these bird cages.
TBH IMO Clapton is overrated.
Levi was was hoping that you could transcribe sweet thang by jimi Hendrix thanks
Can you do some Eric Clapton in live transcription please 🙂 !
Awesome playing and totally agree with the title - Eric Crapton is like.....nah nevermind.😂🤭✌
❤❤❤
Clapton's solo live Cocaine MSG with Winwood is better than this.
That being said, he is and always will be delusional that anything after Cream was as good as his work with Cream.
no way f ing way... his hack pentatonic solos are nowhere on level with what country players are doing.. i have students that would play circles around clapton... fuck him and gilmore...
lovely video, but these titles are just too clickbaity if you ask me
What’s more important? Making your channel look like a library where every video gets seen by 100 people? Or reaching people?
Clapton will be fine
Clapton is the most overrated electric guitar player in rock n roll history. However, his song writing , and acoustic guitar work is up there with the best of them.
His song-writing ? Plus his acoustic playing tends to be far too similarly predictable to what we expect when he plays electric.
Kind of an average improve, Levi. A few cool double stops. A 16th note spurt. Some melodic phrasing. Woo hoo. Some timing gaffs. To clarify, Clapton's best work was with Cream and Howlin' Wolf on London sessions. Cocaine?
Yep ,told him that 😂
But you know they call this playing genius lol
Pentatonics up and down forever
This video pales in comparison to the one I watched earlier....2:10 of Telecaster bliss.....mostly and instrumental jam of Luxury Liner (?) by Emmylou Harris and The Hot Band. And 🔥 they WERE !! I wish Albert would have stuck with the Tele....his signature guitar is just too weird looking. 😅
anytime i see a comment that disses eric clapton i applaud... what an overrated pentatonic blues lawyer pony... thank you for the title.. you may get some heat from the blues lawyers community... but that is ok... its not like they can benefit from these tabs anyway as they are hack as eric clapton...
Hahahah
You suck lol
@AlexanderASMREnergies i would play circles around clapton... send me a link of your playing.... it doesnt exist and will never exist you hack
@ dude, you have more sass than me! haha love it
@@LeviClay this shit needs to be said. i am tired of these low level hacks .. if your gonna talk shit you better have a video of your playing to back it up... this video is great and i am shocked that you have not been ratio-ed ... maybe people are waking up... keep up the great work my man... if you can find a way to take a jab a gilmoure that would be great too...
He sounds like he may have influenced Peter Frampton and David Gilmour.
Not so familiar with Gilmour's style, but I totally heard the Frampton in there
The irritating thing about this is that Clapton said, "I'll just play the rhythm. You go ahead and do some melody stuff around it in your particular style, mate." And, of course, you entitle your video, "Alvin Lee is a guitar god in comparison with Eric Clapton!" Flipping nonsense.
Bro, you’re so mad you turned Albert into Alvin
I way prefer Clapton
my guess is your entry level with guitar and that is fine... get better and you will see how mundane he is..
What a childish title...
What a childish comment
It got me to look!
@ exactly - i'm over here making things I want people to see - and the videos are better for that
@@LeviClay music isn't sports, mate. They're not competing.
@@LuísJoel-s7k where was the competition implied?
the title is a bit over the top. the fact that Ablert Lee is one of the all-time best guitar players doesn't detract from Clapton's guitar greatness
One of them made history..the other is a great sideman.
Does make the original sound like dog shit lol
What’s with this stupid title? Clapton is important as Lee for different reasons. Just stop talking shit, man.
Why you mad bro
@@LeviClay You mad, not me big boy
@ One of us read a title... words on the internet... and was moved to tell people how you felt...
and then when I pointed you out... you came back...
calm down son, it's only the internet, not your uncle's peen. You don't have to take it so hard.
WHY would you insult Clapton just because Albert Lee is awesome too? JUVENILE the only person that should keep their day job is YOU
But… I don’t have a day job… I’ve been doing music very successfully for 15 years. What you mad for dude? 😂
becuae he sucks and too many people hold him in high regard as a slinger when he aint nothing but a low level pentatonic pony.... THATS WHY... fuck your slow hand...
levi would put on a clinic for eric clapton.. i would put on a clinic for eric clapton.. almost any decent player would put a clinic on eric clapton.... he cant chicken pick.. no jazz licks.. no bop..... only mediocre rinse and repeat blues riffs...
What a silly uneducated video title.
Do you think you have more of an education than me?
@@LeviClay I’m not sure what you mean by “education.” But I’m sure you don’t know what I mean by “education.”
@@carpballet no, of course. I’m over here having studied music in academic institutions to the highest level, and now have had a long career in the education sector selling 100k books.
I’d change the meaning of words too if I were in your shoes 🤡
@@LeviClay You are very fly. Carry on.
@ cheers bro
Clapton sucks
Definitely overrated and extremely bland
thank you
It's not a competition.
Not a close one
Bloody hell , these transcriptions in tan are excellent!!!🫡🫡🫡
