This has been very instructive as I've just bought the smaller AA-5200 which is ery similar inside

It is indeed quite common with older knobs that although the outer part seems quite loose, the inner bit feels scratchy and hard to operate.

I did not know WD-40 made contact cleaners so no clue how it holds out over time. Do you have long time experience with this ? I have seen the effects of all kind of cleaners that eat up the parts over time or started to leak-conduct to places you do not want that or potentiometers that almost did not turn anymore because the stuff dried out to be glue-like over years. There are probably others that are good too but I use Kontakt K-61 for about 15 years now to lube/clean potentiometers and switches ( not for audio, I only repair measurement and calibration gear and industrial/maritime stuff for a living and as a hobby) and I have not noticed any negative side effects or cases where I need to repeat it after a few years. A tip if you can not reach places like in the video. I have a little bottle that I fill with K61 and use little pipettes, syringes with needles and a small brush to apply it without blowing the stuff all over the pcb or cabinet

Back in the 70s into the 90s Andrew! It was commonly pronounced, as what sounded like & similar too! 'Hack Eye' That was how I heard and spoke it back then & now.
I'm intrigued by what you was playing?? I heard the word 'Salarians' I think. I thought Dr Who maybe. Please enlighten us, It sounded like a good listen T.B.H. 👍🏻👍🏻

I'm thinking it was Foundation by Issac Asimov 🤔
It's been a while since I read it, so likely I would have obtained the audio book for the car in the mean time.
If you like sci-fi, I can bore you on the discord about all my favourite books 😂

Thank you! I've gave it a listen and it sounds very, very familiar too me. I'm sure! I have listen to it before. But it sounded very much unlike what you was playing! 'Voice wise' yours was deeper 🤔
I used to enjoy the Arthur C. Clarke books read, now audio. I love Sci-Fi I have for many, many decades! I doubt very much you'd bore me Andrew! As I said before, You are a very intelligent man, whom some of us have a lot of respect! for.
I have Discord but it's rare! I use it, to many Servers! I used to enjoy! have gone so quiet! it's like a graveyard of lost souls.

Well if the amp ever really gives up you should still be able to use the transformer as an industrial shipyard style welder 😜
