Prankster Encore Whimsicott was the GOAT when I did Battle Maison doubles. She got me out of a lot of bad matchups and sticky situations I shouldn’t have
I remember when I was playing showdown and my Clefable had the wrong ability (Cute Charm instead of Magic Guard) but that ended up with one of my opponent's Pokémon getting infatuated and me winning the game which was really funny to me
5:27 I was actually able to use Block to pretty great effect on Bronzong during a small Gen 9 National Dex monotype tournament I participated in a while back. Its moveset was Block, Heal Block, Night Shade, and Protect, with Leftovers and Heatproof (because people always assume it’s levitate and also heatproof prevents burn from fully canceling out Lefties). Its main purpose was to trap and eliminate difficult to remove Pokémon that aren’t very immediately threatening, but can cause a lot of problems throughout a match, such as Toxapex. I would trap them with Block, Slap them with Heal Block, and then wear them down with night shade. It worked pretty well because nobody expected it >:3
Weird that throat chop works against Pokemon that don’t have throats and/or don’t use throats to make noise. Also weird that it prevents metal sound, which is like the sound caused by grinding metal.
S and A should be swapped imo. Everything in A are meta defining moves that every scene needs to at least think about while salt cure is amazing its already more niche then them and same with escape prevention
I think if you consider consistent impact then I would agree. I was basing it on the effect itself. So Salt Cure is niche as it is only on 1 mon essentially, but it is really effective on that one mon. Trapping through Shadow Tag/Arena Trap/Magnet Pull is so influential I felt I had to put it in S. The former 2 banned for being problematic and the latter being pretty powerful only trapping one type.
@MattBudYT yea the trapping could stay in S as the bottom rung where you need to be better than it to really make it to S, but I still think salt cure should have been the baseline A, only left out of S due to scarcity. Its like ranking the secondary effect of dragon ascent S cause it lets you go into mega Ray. Very valid but also feels a bit against the spirit
I feel like Taunt would be a great effect for an ability gimmick mon like Shedinja. Maybe something like a Grass-type wooden dog that's "all bark", so it has lower overall stats, but good speed and ability.
Partial trapping can also be broken by setting a Substitute (if you still have enough HP left by that point). Smack Down is still the only widely distributed 100% Physical Rock-type attack. (Accelerock, Salt Cure and Mighty Cleave are all signature moves.) But it's only 50 BP so everyone runs Stone Miss instead. Powder even stops Inferno Overdrive, but only after the Z-power animation has played out.
I often run Curse in singles, especially on Pokémon Showdown, because there, setup teams are super popular. Like, you know those teams where it's, like, a smeargle, an espeon, a blaziken, a drifblim, and a mew, plus some kind of random attacker, and they all have Baton Pass? Yeah, having a Ghost Pokémon on your team with Curse plus some sort of healing move shuts these teams down almost instantly, usually causing them to forfeit.
@@Psychomaniac14 I only play Anything Goes, I don't like restrictions. Still waiting for Showdown to make a format that lets you use every Pokémon from all gens, and every mechanic from all the gens (Megas, Z-Moves, Dynamax, Tera, the whole shebang)! Cool and broken strats will be born from it, and only the one with the most broken strat will win, it will be beautiful! 🌟
I remember back in Swsh I would use Quash Sableye in doubles with either Groudon or G-max Charizard. It was great to help against Zacian or Calyrex-Shadow.
Powder would do good if it's based on the user's highest attacking stats like foul play but both special and physical, like sucker punch but not a priority move, confusion but not as annoying, and it should also affect electric attacks.
I actually didn’t know Miracle Eye existed and was a real Pokémon move until now. Imagine if in gen 10 we get a psychic type move that can hit dark types neutrally though. 🤑🤑
I've seen an interesting strat before, using Imprison, where a mew would use the move, survive the next attack with a Focus Sash, and then use Transform - and now your opponent has to switch or Struggle. And if you look at your opponent's team ahead of time, and plan what Mon you're going to Transform into when they come out, you can copy a Mon on your opponents team that is situationally beneficial to you, and simultaneously completely disable that Mon for your opponent as long as mew is on the field. This gets a surprising amount of use on good ol' Pokémon Showdown, and sure makes me suspicious whenever I see a mew on someone's team. You really need to have a course of action prepared ahead of time for if someone tries to do this.
Embargo doesn’t exist in the Gen 8 or 9 games, and Poltergeist was added in the Gen 8 DLC, so we don’t know. I’d say probably since it’s still technically holding the item it’s just not able to use it, unlike say Knock Off which actually removes the Pokémon’s item

Speaking of Leech Seed, in a romahck someone gave Paras/Parasect a new ability called "Parasitic" that sets Leech Seed when KO'd
sounds like some elite redux shit
Nope.
I love the rom community for things like this.
It should be when hit. Parasect deserves something better than any fast or bulkier grass type could do
@KVO723I feel like it would have to be a chance on hit like static or flame body. Would be super cool to give to other Pokémon too
Encore is S tier from a nuzlocke perspective. Locking an opponent into a bad move means you have free set up
Prankster Encore Whimsicott was the GOAT when I did Battle Maison doubles. She got me out of a lot of bad matchups and sticky situations I shouldn’t have
It's Peak in Rad Red, Encore is so good, it either forces opponent to switch or locks them into a bad move.
Encore is S competitively as well. Super good this gen
Encore can lock pokemon into good move too
Throat Chop does actually see usage in VGC, mainly to block Snarl, but stopping stuff like Perish Song is also handy
Yeah, I've seen people run it on Incineroar.
Quash is good in singles on fast mons because if they outspeed the opponent and use quash the opponent will go last.
All I’m reading here is facts
But, doesnt quash only work on the turn its used?
@baconater7947 u dont get it
@blackreinforced1268 ohhhhhhh was it satire? If so, then r/woooosh me I guess baha
You can use prankster quash on a stall ability opponent with lagging tail to make sure they go last in singles

taunt..
imprison..
disable..
torment..
my ptsd is flaring up
either that or turn 1 explosion when facing ghost types :\

4:00 You didn't mention that "hurting itself" uses physical attack, which warps IVing.
Afflicted.
I’d personally put imprison in low C tier because it’s a very funny thing to use on HO leads in singles

I feel like Taunt would be a great effect for an ability gimmick mon like Shedinja. Maybe something like a Grass-type wooden dog that's "all bark", so it has lower overall stats, but good speed and ability.

Gengar had foresight used on it. A part of the “identified” status I covered that lets Ghost types be hit by normal and fighting moves.
