Gotta say that they couldn't have cast a better Lucifer than Tom Ellis.
Beautiful, charming, voice like honey and brings out the worst in you.
He also has a manic face that is utterly disturbing.
And has a sister an uncle and a father who are pastors. Lel
the message of the show is that no one is pure evil. plus the devil was conscripted to torture people because he rebelled against god.

Wow , I have watched the full Lucifer series 3 times , it's brilliant. To understand that it not about evil, it about family and truth of choice.
Wow... kind of an underwhelming reaction for me, especially because of how much I fell in love with the show from episode 1, but... hopefully you will get more into it as time goes on. In my view it is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I absolutely love Lucifer as a character. I actually only started watching it because my niece loves it, and I thought it would be fun for me to know and understand the show as well, and I was SO shocked and surprised to love it - especially as much as I did. I even felt the need to find reactions to it just so I could see someone else discovering it for the first time, lmao.
I don't think it's found its feet yet, so to speak. We're going to keep going.
The show goes in the direction of god cast lucifer out of heaven for having free will and acting human, but by falling in love and helping people he is earning redemption
I think you missed the point.
It's more like God wants his son to know what love is and that despite their fallout, he still loves his son.

@@a.noriega-gonzalez6801 4th season could have used a couple more episodes imo, but it definitely got better on Netflix. It's like they had a lot going on, then had to wrap it up in one episode. Don't get me wrong, it was still the best season imo.
Hey guys you should give this show a real trial. You have to watch more than one episode. It’s about Lucifer (a fallen angel) who after eons of being in hell forced to torture the worse of humanity, well he doesn’t do it himself but oversees demons who follow his orders. Think of him as warden of a prison and the demons as prison guards. He retires to earth and for the first time gets to know humanity and learns about emotions . The show follows his journey of him feeling different emotions and learning to cope with them. Becoming more humanised as it goes on. The ‘crime’ each week isn’t a big part but gives him a chance to relate to his problems he is copying with at the time.

In my opinion, I feel like this is the best way to describe the devil. He himself is not evil, remember, he's still an angel. But he just punishes evil. From the stories I've heard, Satan only wanted what was best for humanity and tried to help but God wanted to do it himself, got angry and cast him down to hell, forever breaking the bond between them. It's really quite sad when you think about it.

Late 20th century Hollywood had a bunch of movies with major stars (like DeNiro and Nicholson) playing the Devil.
My favorite is The Devil's Advocate with Pacino chewing up the screen with his patented rant.
Mind you, every time I see the psychiatrist I think of Michelle Pfeiffer in Witches of Eastwick.

I hope you continue to watch and react to the other episodes of Lucifer because I would like to see them. Just in case you didn’t know this , I would like to inform you that Tom Ellis who plays the role of Lucifer grew up in the church with a father who is a Baptist minister, a sister who became a minister and also I believe an uncle or brother-in-law who are also ministers.

All right! I'm so hyped up to watch y'all react to Lucifer! I just LOVE this show, and it's not Noir at all. Nor is it your standard police procedural. I think you'll both be pleasantly surprised that there's more depth and nuance to this show than it would appear from the pilot. You think you're watching basic, stock characters, and then suddenly, you realize that you're not. And so much of the comedy (and there's a lot of that throughout the series) comes from the whole Devil leaving Hell to take a vacay in LA, and just having the time of his life playing at being a detective, while all the while, Hell needs him back and troubles start brewing because he's not there anymore.
We're in, but I'm guessing I know the rest of the season one plot already. We'll see. And don't get me wrong - I like the show I just might be critical of where it defers to the whims of a TV audience when it could push some boundaries instead.

I tried to get into this show when it first aired, but it didn't quite click with me. (I liked but did not love the comics.) Happy to try again alongside you guys.
I hear it improves and seasons 3 and 4 are must-watch but we're gonna slog through some dry tv procedural for a while before we get there.
Ahhh Lucifer my favourite trashy television series. There is something so delightful about a police procedural where the main character can politely ask the murderer if they committed the murder and get an honest response.
Seems like it would be a short show.
Actually I heard Gaiman had little to do with the show, and the comic he wrote was VASTLY different from the show.

Lucifer, as a character, appears in Gaiman's Sandman but then was spun off for his own comic which Gaiman did not write or produce. So this show is a distant cousin, at best.
Not that I am Jewish but in Judaism, Satan is ha'satan and is an Angel (not fallen) that basically is heavens prosecutor, who points out all your sins at your judgment at death, you defend your self with your good deeds and if you good enough you get your name in the book of life. There more to it of course and depending on what denomination of Judaism you follow, but that's the broad strokes.
Was trying to push Shecky in that direction, 'cause that's what I know about it too.

Good luck. The first four episodes are hard to watch because me and Shecky are annoying each other. We settle down after that and it turns into a good reaction series.

I was literally sold back when i saw the first episode. Now four seasons later i still don't regret my decision.

You have to watch them all to really enjoy the contrast between the superficial (life in LA) and the spiritual (biblical) points in the show.

I resisted watching this show for a long time. I thought the premise sounded dumb. I hated the idea of the devil being portrayed as the "hero" of the show. You name it!
BUT, after I broke down and actually watched it, I actually enjoyed every bit of it. Pretty much from start to finish.
Shatan in the book of Job is as close to the Devil in Judaism. He's more like God's DA.
The letter Shin is sometimes pronounced S. Like in Satan. It may be open to argument (Meshotet = Wanderer).
I think that Upon Friar Review should watch this show and tell us what they think about it.

Is there any way to get the camera in focus? I watch this on my 4K tv and it is hard to watch, especially when the tiny window looks so much better.

Why do you think devil is evil? Because a book of uneducaten people who never met him said so? They didn´t even knew about Australia. Also 6 billion people think your "truth" is false.
The series gets better as the relationships between characters develops. There s some good chemistry. The weekly 'let's investigate' is not the strongest aspect of the series. I was a bit disappointed with that tbh. There little of Gaimans Lucifer here. A shame but I don't think it would have been greenlighted
The pilot is only 'ok' and the standard TV cop setups are so standard that I can see plotlines coming a mile away. But I'm not giving up. I hear seasons 3 and 4 are outstanding.
@@CrocodilePile i ran out of steam by end of season 2. Yes, you just have to take the solving the crimes bit as froth, they're about that substantial. I think Tom Ellis was well cast even though nothing like the Lucifer of Gaiman.

Chloe dying in episode 1 would so NOT have been original, it would have been fridging. And this is one of those rare shows that's generally above such hack plot devices.
If it's one thing I've learned, they are NOT above using hack plot devices on Lucifer.

Re-watch the end of S3E20 and listen to the explanation of why he is vulnerable... Then think about the first time it happened, back in the warehouse... it was when she chose to do something she would *never* do -- ever -- if she didn't fully trust him and believe he would be okay.

Uncle Tony eh, sort of... I tend to look towards RUclips for music, comedy, and mindless dribble and your stuff is a little too deep. Kind of the reason why I love foamy the squirrel, Felonious Munk, Azzerez, and Brad Williams along with music videos like Steven Tyler playing Dream On in the Blue Bird Cafe (I think that’s what the restaurant is called), U2 performing on the porch of a home in Cape Cod, or Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett singing duets.

Its actually not that weird if you actually read alot of the lore and writings and what the concept of lucifer is adopted from other cultures before christianity and even in christianity he was never the source of evil by definition he is the light bringer he is the warden,guard, judge, and jury of hell the punisher of evil and hell or Sheol was never meant as eternal damnation but more of a second chance to atone for the things keeping a soul from being worthy of paradise it was actually the church and preachers miss reading their own "holy books" to maintain control of the masses that eventually Lucifer became this boogeyman character that you tell a child to scare them into behaving, the position he was placed in was essentially a job that someone had to do to maintain the balance as his brorher said at the end of the episode, there are actually many great literature and stories people have come up with that coencides with this very sentiment id suggest "Memnoch the devil" by anne rice or if you wanna go further back into the roots of where lucifer gets alot of his iconic aliases and titles (such as the light bringer, and Mourning Star) that christianity used to base his character off of try "The Gospel of Loki" by Joanne M. Harris

Why is it that religious types are so cynical, I would have thought that faith required a suspension of belief in the practical world, or is it that if you are into the business of faith, it is just that a business, and a subtle contempt for those who buy into the concept of suspending believe developes.

I think the devil is very misinterpreted as pure evil and made people do bad things, when in hindsight god gave us freewill are actions are our own. Hell is a place where bad people go to be punished.

I still wish they had just done the comic version with the Lucifer that came out of Sandman. They really neutered him in this tv show. It's not a terrible show but it lacks a lot of the powers and stories that make him a badass.

Great reactions. Don't get me wrong. But what if this is the way it is in this world, and somebody is telling us? Because any religion is only WORDS written down on paper. There is NO PROOF. Of any of it. So who says that this is only a TV Show. Maybe the producer was told he could not tell his "congregation" the truth so making a TV Show was the only way he could get the truth out to the people? Just a Possibility. Great reaction, guys.

I see you've watched Good Omens. So if you're interested in such kind of shows, I strongly recommend Supernatural. You'll enjoy every second of it. You'll have to wait a few seasons for the religious aspect but it's worth it.
A lot of people have throw Supernatural our way but HOLY SHIT have you seen how many episodes there are? I'd need another lifetime to get through them all.
Uncle Tony Believe me, I know. I'm kind of a newbie and last year I binged all 13 seasons for 2 months. This has been my greatest achievement so far.

Uncle Tony you get that a lot ? Well that should tell you something in of itself !! ( no intentions of being patronising) there are a few lists on google that split the episodes from generic “monster of the week” episodes, and the season story arc. I’m not religious, but love the take on angels/ demons/ pagan gods/ types of angels and demons/ the take on god himself.
