    I love Booster Gold man.
    To add more about Booster Gold and his JLU episode, I'll also add another great episode about him in Justice League Action which is "Time Out" where he and Batman are under a time fissure and have to fight a Chronovore. At the end of the episode Booster Gold has to separate from Batman in order to do what he has to do but in doing that, Batman will not remember everything they went through and all he said was
    "Don't worry Bats. I'll remember."
    Then Batman says
    "You're a better person than anybody gives you credit for. Maybe one day I'll find that out."
    Justice League Action is considered the inferior Justice League Animated show (what did they expect from a show targeted for kids) but it surprised me how it has great episodes like this.

    • @knghtbrd
      @knghtbrd Год назад +17

      People dismissed Batman: The Brave and the Bold the same way. Doing so was a mistake! Yes, Batman was a much lighter take on the character, but a valid one. And making Batman be a lighter character who pairs with most often third and fourth string heroes makes the show hit all the harder when it does something big about genuine sacrifice or Batman having a chance to kill Joe Chill or, knowing that he knows Batman's secret, bring him to justice.
      If everything is weighty like that, then those stories don't have much impact. But when Batman is otherwise saying goofy crap like how the villains are going to face the "hammers of justice" … lolwut?
      Justice League Action is aimed at kids, but that's fine. It still finds ways to be good despite that.
      What I can't seem to get into is the current Harley Quinn stuff. They've turned her into a cheap caricature of herself try and be edgy, and it doesn't work for me.

    I really do love this episode and its focus on Booster Gold showing that the most mundane/smallest people can have an interesting & important impact on the world. Can't wait to see him in the DCU. I also love that the DCAU centred on crafting a world that wasn't our literal world but a world full of metahumans, aliens, gods, magic, Atlanteans, New Gods, etc... and didn't try too hard to reflect the real world at the time, but personify and bring to life a better world that we could achieve.

    It's crazy how that episode had absolutely no bearing on the rest of the series and is 100% stand alone. But it's absolutely one of the best episodes of JLU. The mundane world of the JLU is also touched on in Task Force X where the Tower is infiltrated. The episode opens up the idea of the ordinary people who work beside the super heros to help them do their "job". What does a janitor of the Justice League space station think about his job? How about the public relations team who helps coordinate with military and local forces when the JLU is trying to help them.

    I’d love to see Implicitly tackle Justice League Action in a video or two someday. It has a very similar sense of world building and character to the DCAU (though obviously much more toned down and played mostly for comedy).
    It even has its own “Greatest Story Never Told” style episode with Booster, wherein Batman learns that for all of goofiness and showboating, that Booster is actually a hardworking and competent hero (before then getting his memory wiped at the end).
    The material may not be as rich, but I think there’s potential for a vid somewhere!

  • @TheLithp
    @TheLithp Год назад +42

    There's a lot of fun irony in this episode. Of course, there's obvious things like Booster saving the day from a totally different apocalypse than the one the episode is ostensibly about but is never shown, he realizes what a true hero is, yadayada. But besides selflessness, he also learns to be happy about the little things. By the end, it doesn't matter to him that he isn't world-famous: He has a date with this girl who's seen him at his worst & still likes him.
    And yet, even though he's not remembered in the story, I think this is one of the more memorable episodes of JLU. Granted, it has a lot of competition, but I remember Booster Gold entirely because of this episode. So, while episodes like the season finales may also be memorable, they have an advantage in that they're carried by these big name characters like Lex Luthor, Brainiac, & Darkseid. That this story of Booster Gold doing crowd control & stumbling on an accident he needs to fix because everyone else is too busy can compete with those episodes is worth some bonus points, I think.

  • @EnerKaizer
    @EnerKaizer Год назад +33

    This episode also showed me how a time travel plot can still work logically. It made me think and realise that, once we found out Boosters origin, nobody could ever know about Boosters heroic deed no matter how great it would be. After all, in the future, he took some random costume and gadgets from a museum to use them for his super hero alter ego, but if Booster Gold ever became a famous person this wouldn't add up. He'd be a historic person, someone even a regular joe like him would know by some form of cultural osmosis, but that isn't the case. Heck, the display of the costume didn't even have a name tag on it, so it is save to assume Booster Gold ended up being the hero version of a Z-List level celebrity at best during his tenure.
    And, you know what? Looking at him at the end of that episode I'd bet it wouldn't change a thing for Booster Gold if he'd ever realized this himself, because he started to become a true hero at that point. Doing good because it is good, and not just to get fame and fortune. An ideal of the silver age of heroes.

      the story of booster gold is a rather sad one , he was an 25th century football star who future was bright until his loving mother caught an devastating disease and with no where to turn to he started betting on his own games to get the money for her treatment, he got her the treatment she needed ,but he got caught and sent to prison, after serving his time , he barely got an job as a security guard for a space museum, then seeing the 21th century hero exhibit , he has a plan , he took all of the tech he could including the time machine of the hero rip hunter , who was secretly booster gold's son.
      he started he own business and gained money to betting on stock market , later on he became best friends with blue beetle (the non space bug one) and had countless wacky adventures, later he choose an path he could not publicize, fixing issues throughout the timelines saving the world and timeline all by himself and giving the credit to other people , and also told his mother all of this she was worried about him , she is really proud of him.
      so he became the greatest hero that you never heard about...

    The Greatest Story Never Told is one of my favorite animated episodes ever, it is a really unique take on Superhero media. Additionally it’s a great example of what being a superhero is all about. He wants to be a part of the big epic fight with mordru, all the destructive battle and spectacle, but instead he’s helping civilians away to safety, saving a kids pet, delivering a baby and solving other problems like the black hole man. And in the end his battle went unnoticed but he is still did good and is reworded a quite recognition of getting a date with the scientist, as well as I’d like to think the people he did help while not showering him with fame will still remember the nice man in the gold suit.

    If the booster gold movie is happening, then I honestly hope THIS is basically the story, him trying to solve a smaller big crisis while another more flashier battle happens. Too many recent superhero movies have kinda put the superHEROICS second to big flashy action (treating them like how they would standard action movies) so having booster want to be a part of a big intense action battle but only really solving smaller less fighting based heroics would fit perfectly for his character and reflect what being a superhero is about helping save people

    This episode really made me a fan of Booster after that. It was always nice to see him pop up on occasional missions after that as like a filler hero or what not, because it meant that he not only stuck with the JLU but usually based on his appearance, he always seemed serious, as opposed to before when he always had that shit eating smirk. Its like a very subtle hint that 'yeah, he gets it now'
    And its episodes like this that really pointed out just how amazing and interesting all the other characters could be outside the big 6. Like Shining Knight, or Vigilante, or The fucking Question who was my absolute favorite character in this series.

    Funny thing the Xwing during the galactic civil war was designed and sold as a civilian ship. it was not until after the Empire was beaten that the Xwing would enter offical military service in the new republic.

Both feature an apocalyptic battle occurring in the background, both feature protagonists sidelined from the main battle, in both the protagonist's plot goes from being a small stakes story to an incredibly high stakes one and in both the protagonist never gets recognition for saving everyone but has found the self-confidence to not let that bother him the way it once did.

    I am glad that I grew up with this and the original JL cartoon. Because as far as I'm concerned,THIS is how you adapt the DC Universe. The shows even influenced some things in the books. So yeah.

    Every time I see an Implicitly Pretentious video about DCAU I think it's time for the "backlash to the backlash." We've had the edgy hero movie stuff, we've had the ironic hero stuff, maybe it's time for the earnest hero media to shine.

    1:37 luke had already experience piloting , there is A.I secondary pilot giving him a hand on r2 d2 (who Use to assist some of the deadliest pilots during the clone war) .. and obi wan (who was one of those pilots) was guiding Luke as a force ghost.
    let not pretend that the movie doesn't do the work of making the audience believe Luke couldnt have done what he did.. that would be very disrespectful to the craftment of story telling.

    ...I... I hate to be that guy, but... Luke knew how to fly fighter craft in Star Wars before he hopped into an X-Wing. Whilst the T-16 Skyhopper isn't exactly state of the art anymore, its still a highly maneuverable Airspeeder. Luke might've burned out the instruments and whatnot during a daring race through Begger's Canyon, but he DOES have piloting experience.
    It might not have all the bells and whistles of the T-65, but... Its akin to taking a WW2 Fighter Pilot, and sticking them into a Cold War Fighter Jet. It might take them some time to get acclimated, but that can be done within a few days, honestly. The rest comes down to actually flying the thing. And, due to it being the void of space, there's no G-Forces or Air Resistance and whatnot to take care of. Plus, this is Sci-Fantasy. You can't tell me they don't have flight computers that would handle the capabilities of it all?
    He also has shooting experience, too. "Bullseyeing womp rats in my T-16 back home on Tattooine". Is it a bit convenient? Yes. But its still explained in-world about how he has all these basic skills. We could also extrapolate and say Han gave him pointers on flying more advanced craft, and his training with Obi-Wan helped him to learn how to pilot an X-Wing. And I'm sure he had at LEAST a few days or a week before the Death Star arrived, so he could also train then. If in no other way than in a simulator. Hell, he's already calling people "sir" and "ma'am", meaning he's gotten used to military protocol to some extent, at that point.
    Sure, it could've been better explained, but they had to cram this all into a much smaller package than what can be done today. Cuts had to be made. Star Wars is not a perfect story, but please don't rag on something without doing at least the modicum of research and critical thinking about it. You clearly do that about so many other things, so that makes the shot at Star Wars 1:35 feel extremely cheap and done purely for reactions.
