Oh SNAP I LOVE THAT IDEA!!! I was going to make one for each of my children on their 21st birthday from the year they were born! I live in TX so it's going to have a LOT of hot color on it. But this would be a way to make it not mostly orange red and yellow!
I have saved scraps for years, always intending to use them. I followed this and have made 3 twin sized blankets. Yeah! The scrap basket is empty. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.!!
I used my scraps up before and donated to my oncologist's office for people's to use while they are getting chemo. I called it my colors of life blanket. ❤️ I love how you mixed the light and dark colors together!!! I think it's time to make another to donate with your pattern. Thank you for the idea. 💜❤️🌸
Kimmy P That's so nice of you! I have cancer & the hospital I was at for treatment was fortunate enough to have people do this ongoing so we were each given one to keep. People donated yarn & the hospital had a couple of skeins with knitting needles in several baskets. They put those baskets throughout the oncology floor. Anyone there could knit a square or 2 or whatever they had time for. They'd leave the squares in the baskets. Volunteers would then put the squares together to make the blankets. It was such a nice idea, you knew alot of people contributed to make your blanket. It really meant alot to us.
I’m new at this and I am having a hard time with the end of my blanket not straight your the only video who really showed me how to do it and I also am having a hard time with color change over wow I just learned so much from this video thank you so much, I feel more confident now that I can correct all my mistakes/ learning lessons .. so very happy I found your channel thank you again
Half double is my favorite stitch and I’ve made lots of baskets and handled bags with this 2 strand method. People love them. I even made a large scrap basket to hold all my scrap balls 🧶. Loads of fun! I love your knot joining method and will give it a try. Great tutorial!
Thank you for being so detailed from how you choose the colors, to using 2 different crochet hooks to avoid curling, how to get crisp edges and how to change colors after 2 rows I’d possible. After watch many videos I finally feel I can actually make one of these scrap blankets.
I am making the blanket now. The blanket coming out nice. Plus, I am also using black yarn for the main color. All I am doing just grap the yarn without looking what color the yarn.
I love this. I’m making me one I just started, thanks to you. I am so thankful that you showed how to tie those knots without having big knots all over. Thank you so much.👏😊
Cool 😎 I’m ready to bust a stash 😁I love this blanket I wanna make one now to go along with all my handmade patchwork quilts that were recently handed down to me. When my mom died a couple months ago I was given all the handmade quilts from my memaw Baw Baw and my great grandmother some are over 100 yrs old. Like your join method fabulous ❤️👍
I had never seen the magic knot yarn join before. Fantastic! It’s neat, strong and eliminates weaving in loose ends. Also love how you used light and dark together to create a variegated look. Thank you so much for sharing.
Just a heads up re doing that... I thought it sounded like a great idea when I first heard someone mention it, but later read that it's actually not good at all. Both the adults and the baby birds can get claws, feet, whatever, caught in the yarn fibres and not be able to free themselves.
sharon anderson = are you dumb, the string would tie to their legs as well as choke them; do you give string to your cat to swallow. dills like you should never have been created.
I enjoyed seeing that you used the black yarn with it... I’m finishing up the one I made for my hubby... next up mine all mine!! Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials!
Thank you so much for making this video. I’ve made two blankets already and I’m working on #3. They are my most requested item from family members. They always argue over whose gonna get the one I’m working on at the time 😆😆😆😆😆 love love love the knot tip 🤗🤗🤗🤗 and keeping those straight edges is a breeze after following your video. Excellent. My life changed after watching this video😆😆😆😆🙋🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ #happyHOOKER #crochetLIFE
Thank you for your help. My scrap blanket is so beautiful that multiple want it. I used one strand of Bernat Blanket yarn and the other regular size 4 yarn. The blanket is so soft, thick and warm. I can’t wait to have more scraps.
That was the asiest demonstration of a magicknot I've ever seen. Thank you! I'm currently in the process of making a scrap blanket that is very helpful tips.
Came back to remember how to continue my project from over a year ago, determined to finish it, it looks so pretty. Thank you for this tutorial on how to make a blanket using yarn scraps, as I have so much yarn from many other projects.
Such a useful tutorial! I'm planning on making a blanket for my auntie, she is blind so the colours aren't my main focus but the thickness & texture is ideal! She used to do yarncrafts but she has dementia now and unfortunately can't do them anymore, but her residential care facility is allowing families to give gifts again for the first time since covid started and this project is perfect for making a nice gift & for busting my yarn stash, thank you 😊
In watching this video presentation, o finally figured out the difference between a double crochet, and, the half double crochet you produce in this video! I'm a lefty-I crochet left handedly-backwards left to right. Now I can bust my scrp-stash and make a cool project from all the left-overs! ❤️😇👍🧸🐻🧶Doug
That's awesome, Douglas Radowick! Most of my videos are also in left handed, if it helps you. Here is the playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLpolLUf9SLHhwFXu5cYJbJOuqJT0aJwxD Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
Lovely blankets! I have been looking for quick and easy projects to use my overabundance of yarn. I have been doing Granny Squares for personal project for years but I really love this look.
Just love this have lot of bits can't wait to start making it .It will be pretty no matter what something made for no money because you already have it .God bless.
I love how your blanket turned out... so bright and pretty. I have lots of bright colours left over from other projects, along with a bunch of darker colours, and this will be a great way to use them up. Thank you!!
That is really pretty, thanks for showing us how you do it. I didn't understand initially why you paired the dark with those bright colors but now I see how great it looks!!
Love it! Time to pull my box of scraps out of storage. Just started using that magic knot in February. I love that there are no loose ends to weave thru, and the knot is hard to find.
Rebecca thank you so much for this video and especially showing how to add on a new color of yarn. With the magic knot, I have a lot of leftover yarn balls and this is a perfect way to use it up. Looking forward to making a blanket this way.
Love it!! I do this too. I always say "warmth doesn't know colour", so use up those scraps! These are my most wanted blankets!! Thanks for the knot tip, too!! Happy New Year! (2019)
I'm truly enjoying making my blanket. I'm new to crochet so it was a challenge at first. Thank you so much for the tutorial ! My first crochet project😳
This blanket is such a clever idea. I have been using a Magic Knot for years. I've wash it, banged on it, pulled it and it never comes undone. Love your blanket - looks so cozy. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for sharing Zena! Do you use the magic knot for everything? All the time? I'm still a bit new - only have done it for a few months. :) xx!!
yes, I use it for everything, thin and thick yarn. As you say, the knot tucks in nicely and stays hidden. Even used it on lacy patterns with quite fine yarn but you really have to pull the knot really tight and small there.
Eu adoro a surpresa do resultado desse trabalho. Fiz um cobertor usando esta técnica e fazendo quadrados até completar o tamanho. Ficou quentinho e lindo!!!
Cheers for sharing lovely :) I really appreciate this video & will definitely be checking out the rest of your tutorials. ♡ Wishing you and yours the most splendid weekend. #Hugs & #Blessings xxxx
So glad I found this, my problem with crocheting is am the worst at matching colors together. Your joining of the yarn is the first I’ve ever seen AWESOM!!!!, hope I can do both to get rid of my scraps. Thanks for sharing and your time.❤️
I love scrap blankets bc I can actually watch tv or listen to something while doing my crocheting. My other projects always have mistakes if I’m not paying attention to the pattern 😂😂
Me too. I want to make one of these even if I don’t have many scraps. But it comes out to be a thick blanket. Think I’ll make one anyway using my yarn randomly. Great instruction on doing the straight edge and the magic knot. No tails to weave in or only a few.
What a great idea I have so many yarns left and was thinking what to do so thanks a lot. I always seem to have issues with having a straight edge so thanks for the tip 👍

I could see using this concept in a temperature blanket, using the daily high and low colors together.
Oh SNAP I LOVE THAT IDEA!!! I was going to make one for each of my children on their 21st birthday from the year they were born! I live in TX so it's going to have a LOT of hot color on it. But this would be a way to make it not mostly orange red and yellow!

That's awesome! Colors of Life! It sounds like a great idea to have all the cheery colors and it has to be comforting and therapeutic! Great Idea!
if you lay the yarn across your beginning chain, you can work it in and never have to weave that end!!
Thanks so much for sharing, @chrislogan6067! That's a good one!! xx
I love this idea. I'm always begging for scraps. I love them. You're a great teacher. I love your happy scrappy.

Excellent! Me too!!! xx
The magic knot is intriguing. I love making these type of scrap blankets, but I like using a consistent color alongside all the yummy scrap yarns.
Oh I am so glad you liked it, @luvgently70! That's awesome! Thanks so much for sharing!🌻🌺🌼
Love the magic knot idea. I put my scraps in a mesh veggie/fruit bag to hang outside for birds to build nests with.
Just a heads up re doing that... I thought it sounded like a great idea when I first heard someone mention it, but later read that it's actually not good at all. Both the adults and the baby birds can get claws, feet, whatever, caught in the yarn fibres and not be able to free themselves.
Also unless the colors are neutrals, it is a bad idea, it draws predators to the nests.
