Very complicated!! It took me about a year (13 months) of everyday writing to use up a 57ml bottle of Quink. It took me another year of everyday writing to use a large bottle (~50ml) of Pilot Iroshizuku ink. I hope that this helps. Regards, KC.
Love it, and I did these calculations myself on my pens a while back. I use much wetter and broader nibs than you do apparently. I was able to get about 5 - 7 A4 pages / 1ml of ink, which comes out to somewhere between 250 - 350 pages per 50ml.
This is a very useful content. Nice , honest experiment. I think I will have to keep on writing till the end of my life , to finish up with my 500ml*4 ink bottles plus a set of 60ml* 12 ink bottles!!
Very funny indeed - :) But, you forgot to multiply by the IF factor. Inky Finger factor = The rate at which a quantity of ink appears all over my fingers for no apparent reason / day. Typically this varies by the current level of Fiddle Factor which can be calculated by multiplying the level of Writing Dissatisfaction by my current work Avoidance Level. And for me, there are special cases where one also has to account for Toilet Loss. This is the level of ink dissatisfaction multiplied by the distance to the nearest toilet. I calculated all of this out on a piece of paper. Sadly I can't share it with you because I smudged the result and can't read it. I'm really glad you are tackling this thorny issue. It is a service to F-Penkind. Great stuff Thanks for the smile :)
🤣 This comment is obviously made by one who not only fell down the rabbit hole of fountain pens, but who also joined in at the Hatter's teaparty of fountain pen inkiness! Much appreciated!
Somebody help me with the math. He said “Your bottle of fountain pen ink will last up to 1.6 times longer using a fine nib compared to a medium nib”, and then showed us we get 1,250 pages with a medium nib and 3,214 pages with a fine nib. Which is 2.6 times more pages not 1.6 times more. What am I not understanding?
I use Parker QUink at work, because my writing isn't going to be stored forever. And if it is, I can scan the pages and save them. At home I use Jaques Herbin, Ferris Wheel Press, Private Reserve, and other good ink brands. I found the TWSBI Medium nib to be much broader than expected. It may be broader than the Lamy Broad nib.
I made a similar, but not as scientific and accurate experiment using one of these cute 10 ml bottles of ink from Herbin, and found out that I could write 240 pages of Clairefontaine A4 notebook using a medium nib. Yes, it is still a lot!
This is extremely useful. I’m new to the FP world and everyone just says “it depends” like no duh. There is an average though. You displayed that perfectly. Just wanted to say you did amazing work to figure this out.
When I was high school a bottle of quink lasts me 1 school year and 1 and a half during university. recently I've bought 20 bottles of Quink from a closing pen shop and though I don't write that much anymore since I work as a photographer. I think I've already have a liftime supply of it.
Welcome back! I hope you’re here to stay. Will you continue the written online blog, too? I’ve missed your sense of humor. I almost missed this video because I didn’t recognise you with the long hair…
🤣 Awesome video! Keep them coming! Ps: 50ml lasts me about a month and a week. I'm not counting the ink I used normally to draw only writing. 🤔 Perhaps I should see how much ink I use when drawing in the same amount of time
found this through your website, since it's a question a lot of newbies like me probably wonder and google. You mention in the video you're using a broad twsbi you perceive to be closer to a medium, but it's a little confusing since that detail seems to be omitted on your website where you refer to it as a medium. I measured my own twsbi fine and twsbi medium with waterman serenity blue, but just a sample size of 33 "quick brown fox lazy dog"s since that's a page of generic standard ruled A4 for me. taking multiple measurements with precision scales, the fine came out to 0.04 to 0.05g/ml (so 4.5ml~ for 3300 sentences, similar to your fine nib example), the medium about 0.08mg/ml. Not far off the broad, 2ml less for 3300 sentences, but worth mentioning. I have a medium Kakuno on the way to use for EDC, I'll come back and update this with numbers for that if I remember. (I am aware japanese nibs are a little thinner) yes, it's not very scientific, but it's a similar method so the results could be extrapolated similarly.
I actually worked this out this way. I use a extra fine Twisbi Diamond 580 Fountain Pen daily. I write exactly one page per day. Which equates too total usage of 2 ml of ink per month. So, if you are like myself you will use 24ml of ink each year. I did this too determine how often to order ink. As, I rely heavily upon foreign retailers for my supplies. And, use a Fountain Pen to track expenses, and, growth percentages for my own business. Running out of ink simply isn’t an option I can afford. What I have learned to do that works best. As, I have too deal with Customs delays, Postal Strikes, and so on… Is as soon as I use the first fill out of a 30ml bottle. Order another bottle as back stock. I figure all types of delays should be addressed in a period of 12 months. And, so far this strategy hasn’t proved flawed. I think that has more too do with Devine forces than my cognitive contributions though lol. Anyway, that’s how I managed to determine my best way forward . Good luck to all of those of you who share my desire for creative expression and, love for Fountain Pen writing.
Brilliant. If I was pedantic I would have to consider the size of the letters ….. but now I have some justification for all the inks I buy. Or maybe not🤔
OK I'm loving this video premise - but why is Quink rubbish? It's been my black ink for 2 or 3 bottles now, what am I being short-changed about or need to explore?
responding to one of the comments below I was wondering in the whole world makes a 500ml bottle of ink? turns out, j herbin makes a bottle with that size. not a bad price either , around 75-86 usd if i m counting right. i see red, dont know what other color might exist. just to put it out there.
I find that when I am less tense, I seem to write larger. So, I assume I can check my mental welfare by merely counting the number of pages I can write with a bottle of ink. Verdad?
A brilliant parody of the nerdiness of some fp enthusiasts. Maybe we should actually write with our pens, rather than playing with them - I know I should! Great video!
Darryl, We’ll said! It’s about time someone called out the BS of so many pen/ink reviews. For goodness sake, it’s a pen - so be quiet and write with it!
Yes Quink Blue and Blue-Black may be but Quink Green and Black are among the best inks ...infact, I have 4 bottles of Quink Green 2 opened and 2 stowed away in case there was some apocalypse
Loved the video but watching you flip papers around an open ink bottle with a syringe stuck in it gave me the willies. This clumsy gal would have knocked it over in no time.

Especially loved this one. Parker Quink was in use. It's my favorite ink. Black is magical.
I concur, quink black is an amazing ink shade & well, very well behaved
@@fizixguru101it's better than most, but Noodler's black is just a little blacker, a little better behaved, and permanent on paper.
I also use Black QUink at work. But ALL ink is magical. Fountains pens are magical things and should be appreciated as such.
Quink used to be good. Back in the day when they had their permanent inks. Nowadays it's washable and fades.

Good to see you have returned to RUclips ! I miss your muslings and ruminations!
I’ve decided to muse and ruminate some more

Luckily I am not a mathematician then
@@onepenshow haha. I’m not either so just making sure I wasn’t missing something
Superbly undersized on the stack of pages. 1,000 pages is two reams, about a stack 4-5 inches tall. Only off by a smidge :-)
You're up to date with paper standards, it seems.
Most useful fountain pen video ever made

Me with my writing a milliliter lasts about 3 days. I buy 4.5oz bottles.
The music sounds like it waw created with minecraft noteblocks, so I found myself giggling throughout the video 😂

What brand is your lighted globe? It also caught my attention. Good stuff 👍
It's very old. Mercator?
A very welcome return!
Always love your videos.
І bottle 60ml for 1 school year
Brilliant. If I was pedantic I would have to consider the size of the letters ….. but now I have some justification for all the inks I buy.

Hello good sir. I've been wondering what you were doing. I love your humor and style!
Hello there!
OK I'm loving this video premise - but why is Quink rubbish? It's been my black ink for 2 or 3 bottles now, what am I being short-changed about or need to explore?
There's nothing wrong with it. A bit boring perhaps?

Fantastic Analysis 👏👏👌👌😍😍
😂😂😂 Madness!! I love it
mate, you should make a video about how to make your own ink

Hey! 😃 I’ve missed your videos!
Very interesting and funny your videos are very original. Greetings from Mexico.
Wow dude!
Such a useful video
Obi-Wan does ink reviews.
What about EF? 🥴
How do you keep shimmering/sheen inks mixed in the pen?
just turn it around a few times before using it

Ewan Mcgregor talking about ink lol 😁
I got 30 ml of ink, doing everyday journalling, it havent' been empty for more than a year

Why do you dislike Quink so much? Is it just because it's boring?
Why is Quink rubbish?
It's not, it's just boring
it's similar to this. you bought a more than 20 or 100 dollars pen just to use regular ink u find in regular pens that cost less than 1 dollar.
Yes Quink Blue and Blue-Black may be but Quink Green and Black are among the best inks ...infact, I have 4 bottles of Quink Green 2 opened and 2 stowed away in case there was some apocalypse
I've recently found you. You seem personable and I like your vibe. However, the music put me off this vid. Do not like music while you're talking.
two days 🤣🤣
