"It is not known at what period of his career Palestrina came under the influence of St. Philip Neri, but there is every reason to believe it was in early youth. As the saint's penitent and spiritual disciple, he gained that insight into the spirit of the liturgy, which enabled him to set it forth in polyphonic music as it had never before been done. It was his spiritual formation even more than his artistic maturity, which fitted him for the providential part he played in the reform of church music."-New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia

Jack Housman I don't need the subtitles and find it a distraction to read but for those who are not familiar with such works from the common practice found in the Latin Mass it is a good idea. This was sung on Pentecost Sunday at North American Martyrs in Seattle and many Latin Mass parishes the world over. Happy 2018th birthday of the church. God is beauty superlative and to think this is only a reflection of his beauty.

I heard it was "He who sings well, prays twice." That makes more sense to me, considering how many desacralized modern hymns in the Vatican II "counter-church" (Archbishop Vigano's term) do not even rise to the dignity of being called prayers or possessing any sacred quality. Paul VI was the principal cause of the debasement of what for many centuries was sacred music. If you thought he was a saint, see this: traditioninaction.org/ProgressivistDoc/A_094_MontiniHomo.html (and 2 other short related articles there).
Thanks, I will. I didn't do extensive searching but I couldn't find it on any sites I usually order from, and I couldn't find it in public domain. But it came up $256 on a site I found through google. I would like to use this at Pentecost/Confirmation at my church. Thanks so much!!

The hymn Veni Creator Spiritus was composed by the abbot of the monastery of Fulda, Rabanus Maurus (ça 780 - 856). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabanus_Maurus
Magnus Groß True, this happens but it is the Alto part, not the Soprano. Pay attention that also the Bass, at the same time, is singing A natural instead of A flat: the reason is the same as that of the F sharp. it's a different interpretation of the musical text according to the well-known theories of "musica ficta".

Did you really need over 30 lines to say that? Anyway, nothing personal but the last part is heresy. God is our Father, Jesus is our Brother and Savior, and Mary is our Mother in the order of grace. The Church is our Mother too.
A blessed Pentecost to all who are reminded of this masterwork today, and to all whom the Holy Ghost has enlightened on Earth.

Many thanks for bringing Palestrina back to me after a long 'discontinuity'! How soothing and comforting!
Palestrina...GENIO de la Música...
Esplendido!!!No conocía esta versión.Muchas gracias buenos días🌿
Palestrina is special to sing :O But when you find the right spirit in the pieces it really makes fun!
I love the references of Gregorian Chant that sacred music composers used to make on their compositions :)
Monteverdi is perfect at this game !

Sounds like the melody was based on Hildegard Von Bingen's Veni Creator Espiritus.
