There are five major philosophies of education. Perennialism and essentialism are teacher-centered, while progressivism, social reconstructionionism, and existentialism are student-centered. Each of these philosophies provides teachers with different perspectives on how to approach their classroom and students. Other influences include behaviorism and constructionism.
So inspiring, as a 21st Century teacher, embracing these philosophies of education is paramount because i need to be enterprising teacher, dynamic with new sources of knowledge produced at faster rate. Good to go.
Thanks a lottttt. I am struggling with the assignment to answer questions about different philosophies impact on learning. Books are quite hard to understand. This video saves me. It's explicit !! Thanks again!
Thank you, this video was very helpful in understanding the different philosophes in which impact education. Although, behaviorism and constructivism are considered other influences in education and the other seven (essentialism, progressivism, reconstructionism, perennialism and existentialism) are educational philosophies.
As a teacher of 20-plus years, I can say that it is impossible to employ one specific philosophy. We find ourselves using the best parts of each. This way you eventually create your OWN personal philosophy. Because students are unique and bring various experiences from home, you must approach them with what works. As a result, you have a unique classroom that is not reflective a specific philosophy but of that individual teacher's response to her specific population.
There are five known major philosophies in education. Two of them are teacher centered, these are perennialism and essentialism. Three of them are student centered, which are progressivism, social reconstructionism and existentialism. The others mentioned are considered influences that impact educational thought and practice.
Thank you so much. It helps me a lot on how to understand the philosophy of education .As a student it is difficult for me to fully understand on my online class without explaining me on face to face. This video helps me a lot.thank you. This is Aiza Encarnacion.
Thank you so much .. I have a lot of questions regarding this topic but i resolve my all miss understanding after watching this video .. it such a great presentation or lecture!
You prolly dont care at all but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
Thank you so much! As an education student in this time of pandemic where learning is done all by ourselves, this kind of topic is really hard to fully understand but this presentation really helped a lot. Modules do not supplement enough knowledge so we really have to dig.
Thank you for your positive comment, Romuallyn! I'm happy to know that it helps you. :) You may share this to your fellow educators. God bless you too!
The major philosophies of education that has helped teachers be the best they could be are perennialism and essentialism are teacher centered, progressivism, social reconstructionism, and existentialism. the two influences includes Behaviorism and Constructionism that was found in the video.
I beg to disagree because Perennials and Essentialism don't have our A-T Potential students in mind being so rigid and structured. Therefore how can these two philosophies help teachers to become their best version when our at-risk students are being left behind. As far as I see it, there are no one-size fits. Therefore children should be evaluated on an individual basis, if I have to choose one of these philosophies that will help our children, especially our young children develop holistically, I would choose Progressivism where teachers are more facilitators, and children are given a chance to learn in a safe, creative, environment, where group learning is encouraged and children get the chance to explore, experiment, discover, and solve problems.
My favorite philosophies of education are existentialism and reconstructionism. I am and asperger and that means that I am egocentric, and I wasn't born with the belief that the universe in which I live has a history beyond my own period of life, and I inherently ignore everything that is not in my mind or absorbed by my senses like it doesn't exist. Filling minds of kids in irrelevant subjects causes stress and anxiety, something that should be prevented and avoided. For that reason I want kids to learn only what they find really relevant, and when they find problems I want them to suggest solutions for the problems from their own mind.
This are really helpful thanks a lot...can I please have the video or source details in APA referencing style so I acknowledge your work in my assignment🙏🙏🙏

What about Idealism, Realism, Pragmatism, Naturalism, Disciplinism, Humanism, Rationalism, Empiricism, etc.? Are they fundamental theories of education? Or philosophies of education?
