    I do like when you share brands that you've purchased because we know a lot of time, effort, and research has gone into it and that someone was paid a livable wage producing a product they are proud of. I'm not against DIYs or anything, but I hope you'll also continue to share these types of things too 🙂

    Surfers Against Sewage do a really cute tote bag and wash bag made from recycled bouncy castles! I assume the fabric is similar to tarpaulins? I love how people are starting to make things we need from things that are potentially pollution. It gives me a glimmer of hope for our beautiful planet 🌏

    I'm graduating high school this June. For school I've been using a square scarf and doing a furoshiki wrap to hold my lunch in. I use reusable containers for my food along with a cloth napkin and a fork from home. I tie the scarf and put the cloth napkin and the bottom of the "bag" to have a more stable bottom then pile the containers on top. My water bottle stays on the side. I had a scarf that I didn't want to wear and then thought to use it to hold my lunch which I love doing now. The cloth napkins are something my mom already had and I asked her if she had any so I can use them for school. I love it, when I'm at school the cloth napkins make me feel so cool, but it does grab people's attention and gets us started on a conversation about zero waste. The napkins are a dark army green colour and on them the year they were made in is printed on it. They're from the 80's, so glad I asked my mom because I was going to go buy new ones which turn out to be quite expensive, at least in Canada.

    there is a similar brand in switzerland! it’s called FREITAG (=friday) they basically do the same thing but as the company is a lot bigger they have tons of different styles and sizes to choose from. they are very well made. i have mine for over 10 years now and it’s still amazing!

    At school here in Germany we use metal fountain pens that you refill with the little ink cartridges. Which means when the ink runs we don't throw out the pen and buy a new one, we just put in a new cartridge. So much cheaper too as 100 ink cartridges are like €3! But it is still plastic though. But one cartridge lasts more than a month so i guess thats only 12 little pieces a year which is better than like 20 pens!

    I do love that bag!! But i don't need it....but i want it....urgh, the struggle! Thank you for talking about re-purposing too - i think i fell into the typical trap of buying new containers, toothbrushes etc before i needed them because i wanted to be zero waste now but as a result...created more waste.... Real zero waste is often less beautiful looking than instagram or youtube haul type videos. Thank you for your videos - i love them and get very excited when i see my little notification pop up! x

    I know this is almost nothing compared to all the zero waste people I watch, but I have started using a reusable water bottle! I would buy a water or two from the shop on my way to school everyday! Now I don’t! And that makes me feel a lil good on the inside

    That bag is pretty neat! My backpack was before I was zero waste, but luckily after being reminded to repair instead of buying new again i just re attached the strap so hopefully it still lasts me for a long time. I will keep that bag in mind though for other people in my life who might want something similar.

    I too cycle to work every day. I'm fortunate enough to live within 5 miles of work. I leave oatmeal, dry goods, crackers, organic syrup for my coffee (free at work😁). Sometimes whn I run out of food...I walk to the store & buy my greens (plastic free) to leave in my work fridge. Makes it easy instead of packing a lunch everyday. It's been a good convo starter to help ppl get healthy.

    Love your videos! Noticed that you said you didn't drink much water so I thought I'd leave you some zero waste motivation to drink more! During my zero waste journey I realised that I use ALOT of moisturiser and go through bottles quick, and I had been assuming I just had dry skin. I've now started drinking 4L+ of tap water every day. I now don't need moisturiser and my skin is so good and eyes are so bright that I've managed to stop wearing makeup as well. TWO BIRDS WITH ONE EASY STONE! and very good for a no spend as well I'm sure.

    • @SustainablyVegan
      @SustainablyVegan  6 лет назад +1

      It honestly is laziness... but I will definitely try and drink a lot more. I have found that I don't need moisturiser either anymore but probably because I eat such high water content food? and don't use any products on my face!

    Great tips, hadn't thought of a no spend challenge, good idea. For deodorant I just use baking soda with a couple of drops of perfume oil in it, just rub it on dry or damp under my arms, it works fine. I take a flannel with me and just wash under my arms on really hot days. This seems to work fine. Nice bag :-)

    Heya here’s a heads up if you’re gonna make your own deo :) when you get half a lime and squeeze it out for whatever you use it for, flip the squeezed half inside out, rub aaaaall over your armpits and then follow with a bit of coconut oil (not too much but just to sort of seal it in) - it works SO well for me!! If you don’t use coco oil then just try the lime peel it’s quite deodorising by itself :) doesn’t work for everyone but I find if you’re already using a natural deo for a long while it’s much more likely to work as you don’t have all the rubbish from regular deodorant to detox :)

    Hii! I love your animations on instagram - could you do a video about your job and show more of your work please? I'm going to study animation at uni next year and I'm really interested in zero-waste/veganism so I'd love to see what you're up to :)
    xx

    I don’t mean to be rude, I’m just curious. You said that the bag was from a small company in Denmark, which must mean you ordered it online and it had to be delivered to you by airplane or boat. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that neither one of those means of transportation are particularly sustainable. Do you see that as a small price to pay for a bag that you would otherwise not have been able to get, or did you just not consider it when placing your order? I got a little confused since you’re usually so adamant about shopping locally and not putting any unnecessary strain on the environment. I really liked this video though, please keep up the good work! :)

      Hey, thanks for comment - don't worry all questions are welcome here and I would never assume you're being rude - just curious! I suppose I think about it as a hierarchy of values - so anytime I bring something new into my life I have to consider several things: has it been made sustainably? Is it taking things that are already in circulation and putting them back into the same economy but with a new life? How ethical is the company? Are they committed to fairtrade practices? Are they cruelty free? Are they designing their products with Zero Waste in mind / or are they zero waste BY design. I will always always shop locally if I can - but sometimes you have to assess what comes above on your hierarchy and ethical / fairtrade and giving materials already in circulation a new life come first for me. The best situation would obviously be to do without - but ordering something that will be shipped with 1000's of other items that will help you make a more sustainable choice in the long run is definitely a trade off I would make and would understand if other people wanted to do the same. Whether I am right or not is still something I am learning and yet to be determined but for now I am content that it was the best decision I could make in that particular situation. Does that clear things up a little? xx

    Hi, Thank you for this video! My Eastpack backpack is about to give up the ghost after 10 years of good and faithful service (the 2 zips are almost broken). I also cycle to work and live in a very rainy part of France, so I was quite desperate to find a replacment for my bag. I really like the design of the Grünbags. Do you know if you got the normal version of the backpack or if it is the large version you have? It could help me choosing the right size (I need to put all my cycling stuff in) =)

    • @SustainablyVegan
      @SustainablyVegan  6 лет назад

      I think I have the normal version :)

      Zips can be replaced if your backpack is still in good condition....😝

    • @shinybone
      @shinybone 6 лет назад +1

      Modestly Vegan Indeed, they do repare the zips :) but it is not covered by the warranty after the third year. The big zip costs 12€ + 9€ for the small one + 6€ for the shipping cost (when they ship it back to you) and the shipping cost to send it to them is entirely at your charge. With La Poste in France I expect something about 15€. 42€ in total at least. It is the price I paid for the bag when I got it, so I'm not sure I want to give them anymore money. I'll think about it a bit longer but i think it is not fair for someone who used it normaly like me.

    The BEST deodorant I have ever used is baking soda! I just shower, wet my finger and take some baking soda. or you can also mix it with some coconut oil

    Your containers are great - I'm looking to get some too. My only issue is that I like to heat up my food when I'm at work and you can't put stainless steel in the microwave :/ I suppose the only alternative to do both would be glass container? Any suggestions or thoughts on this? Really liking your videos. I'm doing a No Spend and Zero Waste challenge too although I'm budgeting for certain spends (a small amount to eat out and for coffees etc) so that I don't become overwhelmed and end up hating it!

    What do you mean by you use pencils now instead of technology because as a professional story boarder//illustrator surely you cannot usually present a pencil drawing as the finished piece of work haha. Also please let us know where you got that leaf notebook!
