My old elementary/middle school had this printer. Along side the 1100,1300 & 1220 (very rare one). Brings back memories when in school break, I would print configuration with that button. I also did that with the 1220, 1300 & 1100. Thanks for uploading!
My HP1200 had this horrible noise, and I thought I'd have to toss it out. It has been my best B/W printer ever - going for like 15 years - sharp prints and very economical. With your help I put a drop of oil on the motor in the motor bearings and now it works perfectly again. Thanks a lot, you are contributing to my climate goal :-)
OMG I did it! I know it's weird to feel close to a printer, but this HP 1200 workhorse has been with me through EVERYTHING. College, cancer, babies, running a business, EVERYTHING. Thanks so much for helping me save it. My little familiar friend is back and working like a charm.
Hi, and thanks for posting this. I was able to repair my aunt's LaserJet 1200. I removed and also replaced the mirror assembly without touching it by using a plastic ballpoint pen cap. I put a small drop of sewing machine oil on the table and "painted" an even smaller quantity directly on the motor shaft using the tip of the pen cap so there was no excess. Printer worked perfectly once reassembled. Thanks for this informative video!
My LJ1000 was doing the exact same thing. Tried this fix, and it worked like a charm! My 16 year-old laser printer works like new. Thanks for posting this video! For those asking where to put the oil, I put a small dab on the motor axle, before reinserting it into the stator coil assembly. Doesn't take much. Make sure you use a microfiber cloth to wipe any smudges or particulates from the mirror surfaces, before reassembly.
December 29, 2020. Thank you so much for your wonderful video about lubricating the laser scanner motor of my HP 1200. When I opened your video the HP 1200 you were repairing was making the same howling noise my old faithful HP 1200 started making tonight. I figured I needed to look for another laser printer because I checked with HP on-line and they said if the printer was over 7 years old, it would be too expensive or not even possible for them to fix due to availability of parts. I stumbled around on-line looking for other laser printers but didn't really find one I liked which fit in the relatively small space available for it in my 5 x7 foot office. Then I decided to look on-line and there you were. I'm sure you got the panels off a lot quicker than I did; I had to go back on-line to discover how to take off the right panel cover without breaking it. Well, I got there and your instruction about lubricating the motor was great. I did what you suggested, " one drop of 3-1 oil" and close it back up. I got all the screws and panels back in place, plugged in the 1200, and it worked wonderfully. Took me 90 minutes to fix per your excellent instructions. Now I've got my faithful printer back, I am so grateful to you. I really liked this old printer. I've had it for 15 years, maybe more and all I've done with it until tonight was dust it off now and again, feed it with paper, labels and envelopes and every year or so put in a new toner cartridge. Thanks again.
I checked how many pages my old, newly repaired HP 1200 had printed. 36,700 pages over 15 years with 6 paper jams and 27 mispicked pages in the printer. A pretty wonderful printer. I guess I'm not surprised that HP no longer makes the HP 1200. If small businesses and families all bought an HP 1200, HP wouldn't be able to sell replacement printers every few years cause the 1200 just keeps on printing and printing. I haven't bought HP cartridges for years. I've probably purchased 8 or nine replacement cartridges from Ink Technologies. com. I buy their NL-C7115X toner cartridge. Great cartridges, great quality and one third or less the cost of HP's OEM cartridges.
Thank you for video. Athough my printer is not LJ 1200, not even HP, I finaly found the same sounding noise from laser printer. My printer is Samsung SCX-4500W and it produced absolutely the same sound. It took several tries of cleaning and lubricating laser scanner motor on my unit. Either horrible sound didnt go away or motor did not spin to full speed. I guess i used too thick grease to lube motor shaft. After aproximately 10 tries noise is gone and motor spins perfectly. Thanks again for video, it pointed me to right direction. Thumbs up!
Used this fix on a Samsung ML-2851 printer. Thankyou! I have to admit that this was a tricky job. The motor in the Samsung printer is so small and spins so fast that even a single drop of oil causes friction and slows it down causing the LSU to time out when the controller tries to spin the motor up. Tried diferent oil and grease types. Finally, a single drop of a dry PFTE (teflon) additivated lubricant on the shaft (and only on the shaft) did the job.
Thank you very much, it helped fix my good old LaserJet 1200. For those wondering, you have to put the oil on the little metal rod below the mirror part. I used the famous WD40, it worked like a charm. Be sure to clean excess oil and to remove any fingerprint or dust you might have put on the mirror while manipulating it.
Just wanted to post for others who may find this video that he doesn’t show how to disassemble or lubricate. Find another video on how to pull off the RH side (from the front), to remove the top to get to the mirror. Pull out the black scanner assembly and remove the black screw before undoing the four cover clips. Do not touch the mirror on the top sides! If you do, clean it with a lint free microfiber cloth. Move the plastic peg out enough to pull the mirror off off the brushless coil assembly. Put a drop on the shaft under the mirror, then reinsert and spin it. Move it up and down a little, spin it more, then reinstall the plastic peg that holds the mirror from coming off. Put it all back together and it should be silent. Hopefully, ours will last another 17 years.
My LaserJet CP1215 has a similar sound. I was led to believe it was the fuser unit, so I replaced it -- still an issue. I then pulled out the transfer drum assembly and that's all running fine. All the gears seem to be fine, so I'm running out of moving parts. This matches the noise I get on power-up, so I'm assuming this is next for me. I'll have to do some testing and confirm before stripping it apart.
Thanks for the video. Worked like a charm. I used a very small amount of silicone oil (not a spray). Also put some on the plastic gears. Very quiet now. Could use a teflon oil as well. Hope to get another 20 years outta this nearly indestructible printer. To anyone considering lubing the gears... silicone oil plays nice with plastic. Many petroleum based lubes do not. Also WD-40 is more of a cleaner and something to break rusty nuts free. Not a very good long term lubricant. The WD stands for water displacement.
I did not had oil so I put grease instead applying a slip on the iron bar with my hands. It seems to works for now !!! Here is the grease I applied : www.lesker.com/newweb/fluids/jpg/photo/Photo-FL-FG_DCP76VF_DOWCORNING.jpg This grease is normally used with laboratory equipments
