Thank you so much for this info. I've had 2 of these for a few years now, and recently both power sensors froze (one ON, one OFF) within a month of each other.

    Well done scott :-D
Switchmodes can be a pain in the bum, but that one died for no reason, other than a diode was faulty.
That psu didn't look like it had ever seen heat, so it wasnt that.
I have seen switchmodes that looked really cooked but they still work, once the caps have been changed.
Ordinary diodes don't react fast enough for the high frequency of a switch mode, so they don't close quickly enough and end up shorting the output of the supply for some of the time.
Keep a few dead pc supplys around, steal the diodes :-D
When you were ignoring the shorts across those diodes i was calling you all the names under the sun, and the roll away inductor ha ha :-D

zx8401ztv - I was trying to figure out the circuit and check all the components, yes I was fairly sure a diode was bad early on, but I wanted to check surrounding circuitry too in case there was more than 1 problem.

I didn't actually call you names, that's for comedy effect :-D
I normally go straight for the output caps and diodes, then jump back to the drive input for a possible dead fet or a small value electrolitic that's needed for startup.
Oddly i didn't hear the typical tick tick sound that some supplys create with a short.
The driver must have shut down the second the overload was detected.

Nice repair, I missed the first part of the live stream so was interested in seeing you find the problem. I'm not much good with switch-mode power supplies either! Your video quality looks good to me, about the same as the advertisement that runs before it.

i have 4 aoc 2436 Vwh screens that im trying to fix, all have died over a number of years one after the other, i have the service manual but i still dont know what im doing lol hopeful this will help

Of course I have resolution and even lens for this, but with low resolution it is easy to find small heat source by hiding components with pencil or paper. Then you see when the right thing disappears on thermal camera screen.

I have an aoc monitor it comes on and then blinks an comes off how to fix it

    • @ica7332
      @ica7332 3 года назад

I also have an older AOC 2436VW & it blinks on & off when you put in the powercable showing AOC logo for a second, & then it turns off & on again blinking. I can not get to the menu either when it doesn´t stay on.
I cannot turn it off either without taking the powercable out of the wall. It is not something wrong with the cables. I have switched to new ones it is still the same . The screen is light grey behind the logo now & before when it was okey it had a red background. The buttons doesn´t work at all when it turns off & on all every second. It obviosly gets power but it seems like not enough power to stay on or maybe it had been locked, or tilted. The powerbutton blink fast in a blue light not in a servicemode pattern. Until I drag the powercable out it is impossible to turn it off manual on the buttons or using them on the display.
If your problem was the same & you figure out the answer or if someone read this know the answer of this problem so please reply. I will do the same if I find out something.

Haven't you got the odd Apple nottbook around to give you a HDMI signal? lol

    • @TheDefpom

The monitor doesn't have HDMI, it has VGA and DVI, otherwise yes that would have been an option yes.

@@TheDefpom it'd probably be worth having an HDMI-DVI adapter around since they are electrically compatible if you are not aware of that. I have found that they have come in handy for many things in a pinch.
