    You guys put a spin on everything!

  • @moderndaycaveman2519

    This is why it's always advisable to mix and match and bring in the 2's & 3's in periodically to get some game time rep's in with the first team. So, if and when this situation comes up you feel more comfortable bringing guys in. Stop trying to save players for next season. Because, with NIL/ transfer portal, who's to say these guys will even stick around. Especially the way Texas and others are shelling out the big dollars for top transfers.

    • @phillips3994
      @phillips3994 Месяц назад

      I appreciate the sentiment and agree to an extent. Firstly, we don't know exactly how they mix up their rotations. Secondly, and more notably, it's mathematically nearly impossible to get game ready chemistry from 7-8 guys with a total of 10 or so OL combinations. Let's say they have 100 plays, and let's say they need to practice these 100 times to get even just some cohesion. That's 10,000 reps per OL rotation throughout spring, summer and fall camp, and they've had more than 10 combinations total. You don't have enough reps to go around, and if you preemptively take hundreds and thousands of reps away from your 1st depth to give to the 2nd and 3rd, you will never be as good in your first 2, 3 or 4 rotations.

      I'm not just talking about only bringing in O-line guys, I'm referring to every position. So, if Nic Anderson is for some reason is unable to make it back or Bauer Sharp goes down, the 2's & 3's under them aren't looking like a deer in headlights if they're told to start during Texas, Ole Miss or Bama games

    • @phillips3994
      @phillips3994 Месяц назад

      @@moderndaycaveman2519 I imagine they do this at practice, but nothing is like game time. Even then, it's beyond logical for your 1s to get the most reps, and to taper it from there. Your 2 and 3s will never have the same repetition, or you draw from your 1s. There's a balance. Probably like the physicality of practice. Not enough of it, and you're soft. Too much and your guys are likely to get hurt in practice. I believe we are seeing the process newbies being thrown to the fire, albeit not the fire that lies ahead. Even professionals drop simple passes. I do think they've tried to save guys via redshirting and don't believe that's good management. You gotta find the appropriate drives or situations to get their feet wet, early and often. I totally agree there.

    The comparison to the 2009 team is really good and I agree IF we don’t have an exodus via the transfer portal. OU needs to figure out what Texas, Bama, Georgia etc are doing with their programs and replicate it. Being middle of the road is not good enough at all. OU needs to be in the National Championship talks every year. Someone in that Athletic department needs to figure it out. If this Coaching staff isn’t going to get us there, then we need to get another coaching staff. Not acceptable at all to constantly be taking step’s backwards year after year.

    I keep hearing the word "close" mentioned so many times in regards to Hickman, Everett, Anderson, etc. Let me just say I don't appreciate repeated use of such a word. Brings back memories of a previous coach when OU repeatedly escaped with 1-score wins against garbage competition.
    Also, even if OU gets all these guys back, I feel we are holding our breath every single offensive play. But yet, one day this will all serve as a significant positive, I just hope we don't drop too many in the meantime.

Williams came into the cotton bowl and wanted. He had very little experience. I don't know why the coaches don't keep the back up. S ready bringing the third year. We're supposed to be s EC ready and we're not and I know they've had injuries and you've got excuses. But nobody holds the Oklahoma coaching staff responsible since Switzer was there. • @OklahomaGanjaGrower
      @OklahomaGanjaGrower Месяц назад

      That's almost impossible! The staff has a certain number of hours per week for practice. Which is dictated by NCAA. They have to jam practice, meetings, film study, conditioning, and lifting in, a max of 4hrs per day with a max of 20hr per week! That is all the coaching staff can mandate to the players! So there are only so many reps during practice and the 1s are getting 80% of those reps, 2s are maybe getting 15%, and 3s, 4s are splitting that last 5% of reps, at most. That's why there can be such a discrepancy in timing and comfortability between JA and WR's, the OL and running backs. That's why player led practices and meetings are a thing! The coaching staff can not force those, call for those, lead those. Hell, I don't think the staff can even be present during those player led activities. A usual practice in pads is 1-2hr, with 15-20min of that practice the players are stretching just to get ready for that practice. So, the team has 1.5hr for individual drills and running plays as a group. I invite you to get a group of 85+ 17-22yo boys to do anything quickly and efficiently lol

How do you extablish who plays on the 4 different special teams. Punt away coverage verses punt recieving. How do you evaluate and use the roster to fill these posistions? For example are the playes the same on both coverages? What characteristics are you looking for? Do you use starters? What makes a difference in these selection of players? Same thing with kick off coverage. Recieving and kicking? Go. Lets get something other than" opion speak" Lets get into it! How do the coaches coach these things? . I saw the game. Tell me something I dont already know. Sorry for the harsh criticism. By the way, a lot of what you guys talk about are just opions about who is best at what position. Sorry. This is football. Pro or college or H.S. people get hurt. When you have a spate of them, it hurts your chances that season. Young players aren't polished and have it all down. It's frustrating but coach can't "miracle" them into veterans. This very scenario is why calling the seasons win loss record' before the games are played is foolish and detrimental. All of us knew we were capable of a good season. But life isn't always kind enough to us to keep the team healthy. Stuff happens. It is more disappointing to the team than fans. It's not like they are happy with it. It is what it is. Griping and moaning won't make it better. Deal with it. I say that to me and everyone. They can pull out a good season yet. The sky isn't falling if it doesn't go our way. Support the team no matter what.

      Your trying not to let the OTHER teams know. You know... strategy.

      The question is why are they so fragile or injured on offense but not Defense?

    Stop with the excuses. This is OU. There is NO excuse for this performance. BV has done a piss poor job. He should be getting more people reps through camp and practices and he should be having discussions with Schmitty to make the workouts less demanding. We cannot continue to go into seasons so hurt. It's unacceptable. Last time Schmitty was here we had these injury issues as well from OVERTRAINING. I work in the industry and it IS from overtraining and intensity of workouts. We don't want to go back to Riley S&C but we need to find something in the middle.
    At this point we are going to get DRAGGED by Tennessee which should put BV on the hot seat because 3 years in this is again, UNACCEPTABLE. BV absolutely talked about COMPETITIVE depth for 6 months. Now we hear whining and crying from BV about injuries to the 1's. What a clown. This season so far is why you don't extend a coach who hasn't even won a damn bowl game.

    Dillon Gabriel should be OU QB. Need to play freshmen and sophomore WRs like Texas, LSU and USC. Trojan start 2 true freshmen on OL. OU needs to develop player depth at WR. 5 to 7 wins. Decomits are coming and BV might be out after 25 season. Why is Tenn so good?

      No, he’d have similar problems. When you have different levels of talent of OL players with little chemistry. That, imo, is mostly the problem.
