- Battlefield 2042 just dropped its most recent short film showing off some of the backstory for the game.
Battlefield 4’s Kimble “Irish” Graves returns - no longer a Marine, but the commander of the No-Pat vessel Exodus, forced to choose between the lives of the 200 refugees on his boat and the future of all the Non-Patriated. Witness the events that will trigger an all-out war in this standalone short film set in the World of 2042

@no info you clearly have no clue of how that works, if something can self regulate doesn't mean that it can't collapse, for example your body self regulate it's temperature, but you can collapse and get fever and you can die from that

If anything its gonna be less of a story than the OG titanfall, calling it now. Ea fans will buy anything with a decent trailer and they know it.

So im guessing in this version of the battlefield world recker is the one who sacrificed himself to destroy the ship back during the battlefield 4 campaign ending leaving irish and Hannah open to be specialists or whatever the hell they're calling those class characters, or maybe they'll be team announcers, OR Hannah's just dead, who knows though

FPS story is the same every time: You’re a badass sent in to fix things. Oh no a secret bomb went off. Oooh look at the shiny explosions and physics engine! Omg! Oh wait let’s finish saving the day, but also leave things open for the next one…No thanks.

They're shit and is just a reason to keep pumping out new 'seasons' - advancements in the story supposedly so they can pump out battle passes and make more money. Would rather have a dedicated campaign, like previous renditions - and some absolutely great ones like bad company. Also the time setting could of led to some cool set pieces and direction. But nah leave it to EA and their notion that single player games are dead to scrap a part of the game cos it can't be monetized. Speak for yourself mate, you may only play them once but I for one often play them multiple times, going for collectables and challenges etc - it's fun and I'm sure others will miss it too - and i highly doubt it takes a drastic amount of resources to do a campaign - they already got a writing team and VA for this online service 'story' with cinematic trailers like this one - why not just compile that into a single cohesive narrative that can exist separately? Oh wait cos EA can't monetise and milk it. A story revolving around irish and ex-pats could be interesting and worth a full campaign but instead it's been sidelined to a half ass online story that people will actually forgot about and completely ignore (like your claim of dedicated campaigns).
Sum up. Just because you don't care for campaigns, doesn't mean everyone does and the game mode should be scrapped

THATS HOW STORYS WORK - in books, films, TV and games - that's the usual story beats. What do you expect them to do? Come out with a groundbreaking new plot structure? - it's a video game mate- a battlefield one made by a major company nonetheless- of course it's story is going to be about action. Would rather them at least attempt at a campaign on the chances that it's great and really works - like bad company and even recent cod titles like modern warfare. than just not even try and instead bundle such little characterisation into season updates and loose stories no one follows for monetization purposes and abandon the fans of that game mode. Cod tried it with bo4 by scrapping campaign, didn't really work and the next titles brought it back. Wouldn't mind if they did both like MW did, don't have to remove it entirely though
