For all the people against this for money reasons: for every $1 we put into NASA it creates $7. The technology we will develop in this process could revolutionize food, heating, filtration, navigation, and so much more. This isn’t just an investment in the future, it’s an investment in the present.

    • @maestrulgamer9695
      @maestrulgamer9695 18 дней назад +8

      Wait,WHAT?!
Investing in the market would take approx. 29 years to create 7$ for every 1$.

    • @jonathanyun7817

And for every $1 spent on the military, how much is it returning? For every $1 not collected from billionaires, how much is going back to help the American people? There is a massive misdirection campaign going on, obscuring the real cause of suffering around the world: the corporate greed necessitated by a capitalist regime.

@@maestrulgamer9695 I'd be interested how long it would take for that ROI through NASA. I know space technology has benefitted Earth based technology, I'm just not clear how long it takes and who has done these figures

Also, investing in nasa doesn't mean you put a crate of 100$ bills inside a spaceship and send them to outer space. People are getting paid to do work and research and this money puts food on their table and is circulated in the economy as they spend it. It certainly doesn't disappear in the black hole of some billionaire's offshore company like other investments the corrupt politicians are more than eager to support.

I don't understand why anyone could get upset at NASA for getting like half a penny for every dollar you pay in taxes or less, when there's so much money wasted elsewhere by the government. On top of the free access R&D, scientific progress in a given field often helps with another at some point, so we may miss out on all kinds of advancements if we never expand into space at all. Also, just mining the moon would open up immense amount of every useful material that wouldn't cost the environment anything, so it's worth that half a penny in my book.

I went to Space Camp when I was a kid & learned that underneath all of the gray dust there is orange soil on The Moon, but because it lacks an atmosphere nothing can grow on it. This was discovered during the Apollo 17 mission in December 1972, which was the last manned mission to The Moon. I also learned that the hardest part about making the moon rover vehicles was assembling the chairs due to their weight. The guys designing the vehicles were on a break sitting in lawn chairs when 1 of them basically said "Let's just slap 2 lawn chairs on the vehicle," & it worked since that's what they used on the vehicles for the next few Moon missions.

Too bad you don’t fully remember what you were told. Apollo 17 found a deposit of orange regolith, but it was discovered to be just a small area created by volcanic lave spewing up away from the surface, rapidly cooling, and falling back to the surface. Only select small areas of the moon had these exact conditions. The entire moon is most definitely not orange under the surface dust.
It’s sad when C-students present their misinformation as fact.

Cost increases and delays are a factor of space exploration regardless of who is doing it. NASA experiences this just like commercial companies, how many years did it take for Falcon Heavy or New Glenn? Space is Hard and we shouldn’t take away NASA’s ability and send and retrieve it’s own astronauts in favor of 100% commercialization.

With all due respect I can’t help feeling duped.
HLS - (the part of the mission where a SpaceX built system transports astronauts from lunar orbit to the surface and back) is ridiculously behind schedule.
Catching a rocket (Starship Super-heavy booster) with “chopsticks” makes for good buzz. But look at the timeline. The mission requires in-orbit refueling (from one Starship to another) ~ 10 times. THEN fly to the moon, land on the surface, take off and come back to earth. What SpaceX has demonstrated at this time is not even one Starship in orbit. Let alone full of fuel, to refuel a buddy.
(The NASA big-wig who signed of on the contract now works at SpaceX. The two competitors back then complained to Government Accountability Office (GAO) - that will soon be Musks DOGE. Soooo although I sincerely cheer for humans on the moon - I think your video paints a very-very unrealistic picture of the current state of progress.
BTW I appreciated the very carefull wording regarding the “touch down” of the Intuitive Machines lander… since tipping over does not count as a landing 🫣

Now I see your comment here, and I'm thinking there might be a billioinaire or two that are losing patience with their friends at SpaceX. I'm not usually too worried about staying on schedule or budget as long there is always progress. It'd be cool to see a human land on the moon again before I go. With the almost certain delays coming in the near future due to, um, governmental changes, I wonder if I can last that long.
All this to say don't feel duped unless you really believed their timeline, the work continues, but slowly.

Considering the rate the moon orbits the earth, plus the earth's speed through space, would Relativity suggest they would live longer? Unless I'm wrong in thinking that the moon travels through spacetime at a different speed than earth when you consider the rate it orbits.

To keep you guys updated on the mission.
Boeing is in talks about abandoning the SLS, Using old parts ended up costing more than just making new ones. The lunar lander broke a leg upon landing, if it weren’t for its ridiculous design it would’ve landed safely, but you wouldn’t have the beautiful labeling of the sponsorship.
Artemis will happen, however not in 2025. Most likely by 2040 will the entire thing come to completion.

I think this is a mischaracterization. SLS is a horrifically wasteful program and we'd be way better off replacing it with Starship, which is just a straight up better rocket in every way.
I would also point out that "private firms making money off of it" and "NASA wasting money" go hand in hand. See the military industrial complex, cost plus contracting, etc.

We made a material for thermal under ware for sever cold in the 90's, made from spun lighter than water poly, the US Army tried it in their weather labs and said it was too hot. After putting about ten zippered slots on it worked pretty well. But Amoco sold the ability to make it when they sold out to BP, and BP could have cared less about it, so it is gone now.

I’ve just reviewed the milestones for the Artemis missions, and unfortunately, Artemis 2 is not expected to launch before April 2026, with Artemis 3 anticipated around mid-2027. Considering that the Artemis missions have faced rescheduling in the past, it’s possible these dates might shift further.

There have been several other lunar missions by other countries and a few more unmanned lunar missions by NASA after 1972. A colony on the moon is just practice for the mars mission. What better place to practice than in a similar environment: somewhere far from home, help and emergency services. Simulations on earth cannot reflect situations encountered in space.
