Whereas I don’t disagree with you, I wish to point out that the man also showed body language that indicates sadness and fear. I could be wrong, but I think he was smirking to hide his true emotions and maintain composure. It feels wrong to defend US government regarding such topics. To defend Matthew Miller as he defends the US government… but I am merely telling the truth, I think that he was trying to do his job, which requires a degree of composure that he was having difficulty maintaining in that moment. I say this with respect to Palestinians, and to you. I admit that I am possibly incorrect, but that is my assessment. At least he admitted the death toll was unacceptable.
A repeat of the Nuremberg trials' assumptions would mean placing only the Palestinians and Russians in the dock. The defence at Nuremberg correctly asked why the Allied leaders were not also on trial for crimes such as the area bombing of German cities or Stalin's mass murder of Polish military officers at Katyn.

On 10/7, the I0F introduced a strategy they have seemingly always done. This strategy is referred to as the Hannibal Directive. What this is, is essentially when someone is being kidnapped, the I0F will go to extreme measures to make sure that person is not kidnapped. These extreme measures include killing the one being kidnapped. They do this because it is more of a pain to come to agreements with the kidnappers (like Hummus) if one is taken. If the individual who is kidnapped, is killed, then the stress of making terms with someone like Hummus does not need to happen. Haaretz, an isr*eli news outlet, has recently done an article on this. This is also why we saw many of the people killed on 10/7, actually being killed by the I0F. It is unknown how many Hummus killed and how many the I0F killed on the day, but there are many examples of people being killed by both.
Simultaneously, is*rael has, as we know, killed more hostages than Hummus. Back in December, two were gunned down by the I0F after very clearly speaking Hebrew and saying there were no threats (like Hummus) nearby. However, most have been killed by air strikes that have been dominating the entirety of the Strip.
(Lastly to note, the only reason Hummus managed to take 250 hostages was because the I0F did not make a presence until about 1:30pm, that gave Hummus 6 hours to do what they did.)
