I was born in 2007 and am SO GLAD 2000s-2010 nostalgia is a thing now...everytime I see anything from it I feel like I want to almost cry, those were such good times...

I was born in '03, my earliest memories are from 2006, I'd say my childhood ended around 2017-2019 and life was truly elite before COVID

As a person who was a teenager in the early 2010s my absolute favorite year of 2010s was 2011 bro I was my last semester of middle school I was excited and everything but I had to go to summer school bc in the state of Georgia u had to past the crct with a score of 800 n above I scored 789 bra I was was hurt bra but after I went to summer school I was On my way! To my grandparents house it was so much fun as my grandparents house they let up stayed up and the shows on mtv was the best not best like mtv in the 2000s best decent hard times of RJ n Jersey shore n they showed music video’s from midnight- 6AM bra that year was the best year for me in the 2010s

I was born in ‘04. The part about hanging out with your neighborhood friend group really resonated with me since I used to do that a lot back in the day. My parents didn’t let my brother and I play games like Call of Duty, so we’d play them at our neighbor’s house

As an '00s kid (born in the mid-90s) I find this fascinating. Some things I'm noticing about 2010s kids that are different from what I grew up with:
- Looking up to RUclips streamers/gamers, and aspiring to become one. Never realized just how popular streamers have become. The whole YT streamer thing came out when I was in high school. I watched/watch some streamers (e.g. Pewdiepie, Markiplier), but clearly it's not as big for millennials as for Gen Zs. YT really became a thing when I was in middle school, and in those early years ('05-'10) it was more about cartoons, skit comedy, videos of people falling down, old memes, the Angry Video Game Nerd, Epic Rap Battles of History, etc. Sure, there were early RUclips stars (nigahiga, Ray William Johnson, Tyler Oakley, etc), but I don't recall kids back then saying they wanted to *be* RUclips stars when they grew up. I guess RUclips isn't as deeply ingrained for us, not to mention those early stars didn't make as much money.
- Online video game hangouts with friends being a major social activity. Of course I did end up doing that, but not until I was already in high school/later. For us video game hangouts always meant going to someone's place.
- The centrality of Minecraft. Sounds to me like Minecraft was as big in the 2010s as Pokemon was in the '00s and late '90s. I know Pokemon is still popular now, but when I was 8 or so Pokemon was EVERYWHERE. You'd get a bunch of kids bringing Gameboys to school, everyone was trading cards, heck, my teacher once brought her daughter's card binder to school so we could trade with her cards.
I loved the 2010s (including Minecraft), but I look at it from a different perspective, since it was my high school/college/start-of-career years.

My all time favorite part of the 2010s was the whole toys to life genre in video games. Especially Skylanders. I’d do anything to see the Walmart tech section to be over saturated again. Im still collecting those silly little goobers to this day.

I'm pretty sure the whole emo phase was a early to mid 2000's thing. I don't really remember that many kids in high school in the mid 2010's having the complete emo getup. When I think emo, I think of like 2004/2005 Linkin Park or Green Day.

Not all of them lol. I had to rely on myself my whole life. Never had family not a mom nor dad. I was homeless as a teen on my own. This isn't a sob story or cry me a river story lol just want to put that out there not all Gen z are stuck up little rich kids. I know exactly what you mean though. First of all you were born in 1997 which is the late 90's not the mid 90's the mid 90's ends at 1995 and not only that you are literally an early Gen Z. Thank god I didn't have a Xbox 360 until 2013 and thank god again that I never cared for online multiplayer/ chat rooms. Sounds to me like it would be a pretty miserable experience with all of the yelling and screaming from little kids, saying slurs, and insulting one another for no reason. I prefer to fly solo for my games most of the time. Also, I was never interested in First Person Shooters. I never got into COD, or really any of those types of games. I'm interested in something like Doom for example, or Team Fortress 2 maybe, but generally, those aren't the types of games I usually play. I play 2D platformers, 3D platformers, Metroidvanias, Puzzle Platformers, certain kart racers like Mario Kart, and the occasional story driven game like, Uncharted or The Last of Us.

I mean, the most fun I ever had playing multiplayer was when me and a few friends were playing Brawl and Smash 4, back when that was new, at summer band camp during high school in the mid 2010's.
