  • Each year, hundreds of names of officers killed in the line of duty are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. These names are then read aloud during the annual Candlelight Vigil to memorialize those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
In 2023, 556 officers will be honored during the 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil, on Saturday, May 13th on the National Mall (between 4th and 7th Streets and Madison and Jefferson Drives) in Washington, DC.

National Police Week occurs every May, and in 2022 we will be commemorating it with live, in-person events. National Police Week will be observed from May 9-20. The National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum will hold ceremonies, including the 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil, to honor the fallen officers whose names have recently been added to the Memorial. The 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil will be held on Friday, May 13.

How pitiful is it that I am just now hearing of Police Week & this annual candlelight vigil at my age of 60!? I will be doing my part on social media TODAY so that at least the people in MY circle will know about Police Week!
(My brother would have been a police officer. He was taken away from all of us and the world in the 3rd year of his training by one of the people he would have arrested--a drunk driver. He was 21 and newly married.) God comfort all the loved ones of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty including the family of Officer Josh Miktarian, Twinsburg, Ohio; End-of-Watch July 13, 2008. RIP Josh ❤❤❤❤❤
