  • A trip along the famous A537 and A54 Cat and Fiddle Road between Macclesfield and Buxton. The road is known for its frequent tight corners as it makes its way through some spectacular moorland scenery in the Cheshire and Derbyshire Peak District. At the road's highest point at 515m (1,690ft) stands the 2nd highest pub in England, the Cat and Fiddle. The tight bends and steep drops have, however, led to a number of accidents - and the road usually features in official statistics in the top 5 most dangerous roads in the UK.

Great video - I’ve not been here for years but must go back - thanks!
Once had supper at the cat and fiddle in the early 1970's with the man who became my husband. We had 40 good years, until he passed away. Happy memories. Thanks Richard.

One of my favourite roads in the UK - I try to visit the Cat and Fiddle every trip over to England. Gorgeous part of the country.

Hey I saw this road on alltimetoptens Top ten deadliest roads, and I can see how the tight turns could definately be a problem but you seem to do mighty fine and i don't see any high speed racers. Is it as dangerous as they have previously said? Awesome video by the way. Very nice.

Nice video.used to like another back lane route to Buxton .park lane Biddulph to top road down past Rudyard to t junction turn right then a left past the reservoir to3horse shoe pub hang a left up the bank past the winking man.great coming back that way down the bank but a bit tricky as a slight left at the bottom that become a beast of you get it wrong

The tight turns can catch you out if you aren't paying attention - you can't always tell how sharp they are until you're at the corner Looking at the accident stats, a disproportionately high proportion of the casualties are bikers - some of whom push it a bit too much into the corners. Many bikers travel for many miles to ride the Cat specifically. Not all bikers though - day before I filmed this, I saw that a sports car had left the road, roughly at the 4:13 point in the video.

Whats the purpose of the electronic 'police notice' sign? I've never seen one before.

The notice here says whether or not the road is closed in Winter. Quite a few of the roads in the Peak District have them as there is quite often disruption due to snow.

Quite scary because looks a fast road but as absolutely nothing on Hardknott and Wynrose Pass in the Lake District. No way idiot bikers could get any speed up on those roads.
