- Dominica, a member of the Commonwealth, is a small island in the lesser Antilles. Located between the French overseas departments of Guadeloupe and Martinique, it's one of the poorest countries in the Caribbean. To finance its economy, Dominica offers a Citizenship by Investment programme, or CBI. Investors can buy a Dominican passport, which has two major advantages: it's one of the cheapest in the world and it grants visa-free access to the EU. Our correspondents report.

To be clear, many large nations such as the UK, USA, Austria, Germany, Spain and Portugal also monetize their nationality through similar programs. The issue is not so much the program as the manner in which it is being run by relevant parties.
Many european countries also have this programme.
Cyprus, Spain, Portugal, Austria etc.

This is a commercial for passports and resorts. Not a news piece.
Getting a new passport through the CBI program only gives you access. It does not guarantee a new identity. So propagating the idea that this is cause for concern is misleading. In fact it has become the lifeline for the country's economy so keep selling those passports.
It gives one a Plan B. Even Americans who are seeing the writing on the wall in their own country. Pair this affordable citizenship with one or two others and a residence permit or two, then one is on their way to full diversification and the ability to escape a repressive regime.

@@dobriltanev9722 🤣🤣🤣 I was simply using them as a example. Dominica is beautiful and I’d love to visit the nature that but to claim it is affordable is incorrect. But these news outlets don’t represent the majority they represent the rich and provide their news based on whats best for corporations (their advertisers) and the rich. I literally don’t know anyone who would think 100k is affordable and I live in the Bay Area around lots of high earners. These people are not rich though as the cost of living here is exceptionally high

How does the Argentina citerzen ship work
My favorite place. And I got beat out of money last year on a piece of land. So hopefully one day I can afford this. It's a beautiful place. But the local economy is not great anymore. The natural citizens are in a bad place and the government doesn't care.
Sad state of affairs....no industry and any form of employment for the citizens.
What a very ignorant and inaccurate statement the construction projects taking place are obviously creating employment for the citizens and no doubt with the creation of a new airport certainly more investment will be coming!

That's not an international airport.
The US and the EU is by no means the barometer for what is good practice.
Their only concern is a fear of competition and the rapidly changing world that allows countries like Dominica to have an equal bite of the cake.
Evidence of how most of the money is being spent can be seen all around Dominica in the government housing program. It would be naive to think that in this over finantialized economic system operating in the West bad actors would not show their ugly heads.
Similarly many of our local bad actors on the outside of government are mortified that they too cannot get their hands on some of the goodies (not for the want of trying) but instead pretend they possess greater morals and higher values. Not true after all they also aspire to be in power and power does corrupt.
This is a Disaster find other way to grow your economy

As much as I don't like the passport sale program, it would have served the people of Dominica better if the powers that be was using the funds for the economic development of the people, instead it is used for fattening of the pockets of the gang and the crumbs go to the supporters in the form of housing and money when they need it by going in person to the PM
It is 5 years or so hurricane Maria hit the Island and there still houses covered with tarpaulin most of them being none DLP supporters

They have different options u can invest in real estate or donations or give funds to invest into the country

The one where Linton and two others are shown scheming to offer diplomatic passports in exchange for funds that were to be routed to Dominica under the guise of "humanitarian assistance?"
