I purchased this on VHS from Wax Trax in Denver in 1985. Despite not having the internet we were very much plugged into the Denver industrial scene of the day. In 1985 I was a 19 year old in a trench coat driving a 77 Volvo station wagon with Cab's and Bauhaus stickers all over the back and a Alpine stereo blasting Caberet, SPK and Controlled bleeding for hours a day. There's your "" I lived and experienced the eighties industrial scene "" story for the day guys.
+Madison County Sound Labs -- Wax Trax was my "church of music" during the late 70s and the 80s. I lived in Peoria, IL and drove up there about once a month to explore the records. I also ordered from their catalog. SPK, Crispy Ambulance, Severed Heads, Skinny Puppy, Durrutti Column, Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey, Sisters of Mercy, Nocturnal Emissions, THU 20, Neon Judgement, Blackhouse, Whitehouse, Come Organization, you name it, I was all up in there. My band Camouflage Danse performed on Halloween night in 1980 at The Clybourn Salon, not far from Wax Trax.
+Madison County Sound Labs We once, as younger assholes, drove through Mt Vernon OH on a sunday as everyone was coming out of church blasting HAMBURGER LADY out the windows.
I heard this tune for the first time in 1985/86(11years old) in german radio and i liked it.....BUT, I only found out today who are the group.....after 28 years now!....unbelievable! Thank God we have RUclips and their uploaders! :))
It was love at first watch! Thanks to a friend of mine, who had it in VHS, I could watch over and over again. I trully wish I could have it in DVD, BlueRay, or whatever other midia. Cabaret Voltaire is incredible, they were ahead of their time, and unfortunattely, rarely remmembered and recognized as one of the most important electronic bands. They were brilliant!
All I can say is I'm thankful there's I-Tunes. Downloaded "Drinking Gasoline" and "Covenant," which I've never actually seen anywhere in physical format. Both albums fill up a CD nicely if you lop off the two redundant tracks...
Notice how a lot of Cabaret Voltaire's songs almost come across as surreal with lyrics that are practically intentionally complex and unintelligible (but not "unintelligent", haha). Their video clips more or less too.
BTW, this track is funky in a way that defies the term.... a testimony that these new wave types can make their own rhythms informed but not determined by their sources
ROFL!! OMG!! I forgot all about this song! When I was in high school a long time ago me and my friends use to break off of this! That's why my knees hurt today! LMAO!
@MagnitudePerson I reckon the Cabs would disagree with you. What is all this need for labeling everything? These terms mean nothing. The Cabs are the Cabs. It's as simple as that!
Is that hyper-busy bass sound Mallinder actually playing an instrument (as opposed to synth programming)? If so, I'd love to see a close up video of the fingerwork.
I don't think the general public will ever be ready for this kind of music. It is a bit too out of the box. People are just too narrow for it. And I don't mean to sound elitist when saying that, but a lot of people enjoy their pleasant little comfort zone when it comes to music.

Excellent Steven. Wax Trax in Denver sold our electronic experimentation groups releases. We were Madison County Sound Labs.

He clearly was a Prodigy fan when CDS 💿 were invented, and maybe moved from Denver to a better Industrial/Goth town like Phoenix in the 90s
Thank all the gods and martyrs for Wax Trax.xx
Dude imagine if a dog opened its mouth and this song started playing
that would be awesome
😂😂😂
tf dude
That would be radical. 😂
All hail the Cabs. Another classic by these pioneers.
Timeless. Truly classic.

Cabaret Voltaire is pure vanguard !
+Helio Buccos I TOTALLY AGREE !!!
So thankful to God that I didn't live and die BEFORE Cabaret Voltaire.
This song layered over " I Want You" works at many junctures. So much fun- I can hardly stand it!
Literally anything by this band is amazing in the background while playing Bombrush cyberfunk
Yello, and Cabaret Voltaire were both featured in Ferris Bueller's day off...
Love this power track so much, CV Big Funk forever ❤️
Really need a nice DVD upgrade of this. My VHS wore out ages ago. :)

the first 15 seconds sounds totally like over the shoulder by ministry
the other way round
Over the Shoulder is, in my opinion, Ministry's best song.
Good , no wait Great point ! They were onto something but didn’t know it, that sound sells big now and is progressive Trance as we call it
GREECE !!!!!!!!
Is that hyper-busy bass sound Mallinder actually playing an instrument (as opposed to synth programming)? If so, I'd love to see a close up video of the fingerwork.
Sounds like a synth, though there is a bass guitar part too
What model of drum machine were they using on this EP? ... Totally awesome funky-EBM sound. Still one of my favorite acts of all time.
JF L Fairlight possibly or SP12/Emulator II
The "MXR 185 drum machine" , my favorite.
sounds very "Art of noise"... good 80's style!
Who directed this? Love the style!!!!
Themselves I think. They usually did their own stuff
Peter Care
A Dark Taxi Baobab Retreat.

Some of the best music ever. Too bad that rifting, starting stealing original content +rap- to create crap!
Yea I remember when I played this, already had someone talking shit about it,haha fuck them
Carbaret Voltaire invented Industrial, Electro, Electronica, and Beam Dance - Beam Tech??
no
Not hahahaha peace to autechre-second scope, tri repetae
A re saloniki doxes!!
does anyone know where was this shot?
In Greece ,Athens mainly you can a model of an Olympic Airways 747 on the beginning and Greek alphabet throught out the video
Others in this section said Thessaloniki
With all those vocal samples it sounds like something from the Sonic CD soundtrack.
VAYAT ITULO
kinderen in een speelgoedwinkel
It sounds as if the song is about something sexual, right?
Given how on "The Covenant, the Sword and the Arm of the Lord" at least one track was about it, I wouldn't be too surprised.
sounds like early Depeche Mode not adapted to masses
