A lot of cool stuff in this video. We get a brief look at Fukumoto's earlier manga before Ten, how he became popular with gambling manga, and an interview with the man himself. If you pay a lot of attention, there are a couple spoilers for Kaiji part 2 and maybe some others, so just be aware.

They should know that Kaiji's art really gives way to intense expression in each character's face. As seen in both manga and anime, the very expressive faces has helped the atmosphere to be more intense than it already is.

I love fukumoto's art style, it's part of the reason I love kaiji so much!
Fukumoto is my all time favorite mangaka and I expect this to never change! No other manga has evoked such strong emotions in me as his manga! I got his autograph on my Kaiji manga when he was visiting Finland :) If you enjoyed the anime adaptions of Kaiji and/or Akagi I would strongly recommend to read his other works also! "Buraiden Gai" and "The Legend of the Strongest Man: Kurosawa" are really good for example ;)

What I like about Fukumoto's manga is the well-written story. This author demonstrates that a good manga doesn't need detailed art. I even think that his style fits perfectly for the characters.
On the contrary, most of his art from after the year 2000 is extremely detailed.
As cringy as those hosts were, at least they took the time to try and understand something as foreign and niche as Kaiji. Most news channels barely talk about anime or manga in GENERAL.

Love him. Kaiji is an amazing manga. Legend of thr Strongest man kurosawa might be my favorite by Fukumoto so far though. What an incredible story.
How have I never seen this video?!! It's an 11 year old vid as of now and I've been a fan of Fukumoto's manga series Kaiji and Kurusawa for years. Better late than never.
I reccomend you also "Akagi"

Currently reading part 4 of kaiji and I enjoy this series SO much!! I really want to get to know more information about Fukumoto, this video is a good starting point. It surprised me that this magazine at 12:25 had like a "pachinko genre". I couldn't imagine any other way to make a thrilling gamble about this topic as Fukumto did and thought he would be REALLY unique with that. Also I'm very curious if the prediction at 22:50 turns out to be right. Great Interview!

You're right. I've checked some of his recently works and he puts details in every panel. What I meant is that he doesn't draw his characters as the usual manga style.

I may be 7 months too late . But it's imagine nation from this TV channel called nhk world . They used air this show on set top boxes back in India (where I'm from ) . It's supposedly an international channel and it has everything Japan in it .
