also must say its awesome that you like the band, one of the most famous in the uk ... more hits than the beatles, more hits than the stones but sadly they never made it in the usa
this is actually one of their older songs, it was released in 1979 , check out other live songs like "roll over lay down" "hold you back" "Backwater" and the epic "45 hundred times" which is an absolute monster of a live track and a huge fan favorite
nope, they are not under-appreciated. they were always big, still going strong. more than 60 hitsingles, 33 studio albums, about 120 million sold, still touring.
This is one of their best known songs that has more live versions that I care to remember. Much like their, oft-maligned version of, 'Rockin' All Over The World', which they're automatically associated with whenever their name comes up. This song is from 1979, so this live version was 30 years old at the time of recording! It was released as a single and got to number 4 in the UK charts. Written by Rick Parfitt, (the blonde-haired one, who's sadly no longer with us), and Andy Bown, (The Clint Eastwood look-a-like on the keys), one evening. It's been a staple in their live performances ever since. When you going to do, 'Mystery Song?' Preferably the full album version! 😁 Quo were hugely popular in the 70's and had a huge following. They kept themselves constantly in the public eye with singles and performances on, 'Top Of The Pops', for years and years. In fact, they are hold one of the top number of performances on that particular show. Things did change a bit in the 80's regarding personnel, and as such, the music changed as well. Although, they did still maintain their popularity, they got more than their fair share of chagrin from older fans who felt they'd sold-out and gone, 'poppy.' But, with any band, the need to keep yourself relevant is important if you want to be part of the, 'scene.' Quo did have chart success up to the end of the 80's and very early 90's, but that decade was their wilderness years, so to speak. They released a few more albums of their own material, but then changed tac and released one that contained cover versions, which, although it was a good idea from a marketing point of view, didn't really do much for their credibility as a current chart band. In fact, one particular radio station refused to play their music because they weren't new enough to fit their requisite. But Quo carried on unabated and relied on their live performances to keep themselves noticed. They did have a bit of a revival in the early 2000's, chart-wise, and continued to release original albums well into the 2010's. Their latest one being released in 2019.
