I just really feel bad for you guys you have to beg your government permission to have weapons that should be every man's god-given right. maybe someday huh?
Lol seriously every mans right how many gun related deaths do you have in the US agin not every one should be allowed to own a firearm that's why there is such a proses in Canada to weed out the ones who are responsible enough to own one and why our gun regulations allow us to have over 50 times less gun related deaths in Canada period
What an ignorant comment. Do you get all your information from CBC?There are about the same number of gun related deaths as there are car accidents. In Canada the number of stabbings are almost equal in firearms homicides. Criminals don't legally buy guns either. It's really irrelevant. There will always be people who will abuse tools in order to murder. All regulating guns accomplishes is making sure the state has absolute power over it's citizenry, so that whatever policy they pursue, no matter how tyrannical, or detrimental to it's citizens it will not be met with any serious opposition.
@@TheWiseDaws Having rules is fair. In Canada, our rules are unfair, illogical, anti-evidence based, and arbitrary. If we were stronger advocates for our own rights, we'd have better laws. All firearms users need to advocate better for our own rights.

This was a very informative video. Yes there are a hand full of states that have all but lost the fight for the American 2nd Amendment, but not in North Carolina. We have learned that as soon as you loose a right it is almost imposable to get it back. The misinformed and misguided officials that think criminals are going to listen and obey new laws that truly only affect law abiding citizens are so ignorant. Not only that they lead us to believe that the so many of US crimes that involve firearms are done with "hi capacity assault weapons" is BULL CRAP! But in the very slim chance you would find yourself defending you or your family against a criminal with "hi capacity assault weapons" , would it not be better to meet them on more equal terms? Well until things get better up north come on down here and have some fun shooting whatever firearm type or capacity or caliber you heart desires. God Bless
The government has created these laws to harass and attack gun owners The Liberals gun control act of 1995 declared Canadian gun owners as a threat to public safety. So gun owners are monitored and checked every 24 hours in a database because they are considered mass murderers in waiting.
I know it's a 7 year old comment, but it's easier for an illegal immigrant or others to come to America to live than a Canadian, who are almost culturally and ideologically the same as an American. It's complete bs that we don't have easier means to immigrate to eachothers countries.
They are using .223 pistol mags (10 rounds) in a rifle. If a pistol mag can be used in a rifle it's ok. It's still a pistol mag. I'll have a video on this specifically, in about a week.
Thank you Rod. I watch this vid from time to time because you do a great job of conveying to us not to be careless or complacent and if we do there are serious consequences. I always follow the law and indeed go above the requirements just in case, God forbid, I somehow made a mistake. Excellent vid and reminder with a little bit of humor in it.
LIEberalism leads to socialism. socialism leads to naziism or communism (extreme left) which in turn confiscates guns then procedes to kill 10's of millions of people!
how exactly are we supposed to stand on GUARD for thee if the bastards keep restricting us? with what slingshots but we can only have 3 stones in our pouch?
Less then a year ago I was one of those people that wasn't aware guns were legal in Canada. After a tour of a brand new local Cabela's I was floored to see restricted handguns for sale out on display. I now "legally" own a 9mm Jericho 941 which I have a blast taking to the range :D As much as I enjoy being allowed to fire off guns at approved ranges, a lot of the rules & regulations of my new found sport are pretty grey. I applaud you for shedding light on them for those of us just starting out.
I really like your respectful, common sense approach. You're a great advocate for Canadian gun owners. I agree that while we may not like our laws, we must abide by them. I would also add that knowing the law is actually an advantage. For instance, it is illegal to have a firearm in a state that enables its operation on a highway and ammunition cannot be easily accessible. . However, once off the highway and in the back country, I take my rifle out of the case, remove the trigger lock, place the gun next to me with a mag of ammo sitting next to it on the seat. Not a loaded firearm, but handy enough so that if the deer/bear shows up, I'm ready. Perfectly legal. I personally would really like to be able to carry a sidearm when bow hunting and that is one of the areas I will be writing to my MP about. Thanks for all you do!
After watching this it seems like the laws were written for heavy population cities but enforced country wide. These laws would suck for a person far from town. If I was out in the forest of Canada I would certainly want a fire arm close at hand.
WOW !!! I truly feel for the gun community in Canada. It's stupid that a person can't shoot a gun on their own land. In my town. As long as you outside of city limits. You can shoot on your own land. It's the shooters responsibility to ensure the back drop of where they're shooting. Also, another residence must be a quarter of a mile away from the direction of where you're shooting on your land. Meaning you can have a neighbors home across the street. But if you're shooting in your backyard in the opposite direction...then you are fine to shoot. And no restrictions on what type of gun or caliber can be used. If a person has farm or ranch land, they should be able to shoot whatever and whenever they wish...it is their land. Seem to me Canada's Gun Laws are simply there and imposed to generate money for the government. And what's up with you are not permitted to protect yourself or your family? And you have to rely on law enforcement. If that's the case, then I want a cop with me at ALL TIMES. That law in itself would force me to move from Canada. NO Government will EVER tell me that I CAN'T PROTECT MYSELF OR MY FAMILY>
Depending on local/municipal regulations (and how bitchy your neighbors are), my understanding is that you CAN shoot non-restricted firearms on your own property. Can't fire restricted firearms anywhere but a range, however.
Yes my friend, criminals in Canada have way more protection from the government than legal and law abiding gun owners. However, it's judged case by case and with incredibly skilled lawyer and hundreds of thousands of dollars you may be lucky enough to justify killing/hurting a criminal who broke into your home to kill you and rape your family. You're supposed to call 911 first and with your last breath of life hold on to the phone and talk to the 911 dispatcher. Use a gun to defend your family and you end up in prison until your lawyers can try and do the impossible, to free you from jail. Kill them with baseball bat or a knife, you are in a bit better position. The method of killing the intruder also has a huge significance in whether you go to prison or not. Example, you kill the robber with a shotgun and you have some chance of defending your actions. You kill him with a handgun and you're in a heap of legal troubles, jail time, insane lawyer fees, guilty until proven innocent....Looking into moving to Montana, leave this hell hole once and for all.
In Canada, you can shoot any "non-restricted" firearm providing your municipality allows it and the firearm can be safely discharged on your property (think farmland, etc away from dwellings)
It should be! It's easier to steal a car and drive it then it is to get a license, buy a car, get insurance, plates , sticker, safety and pay gas but do we want it to be easy?
Was this the beginning of Wilson and Giltaca, the proto-CCFR, with Rod's 1st letter to his MP? I like to think so. Very sorry you've lost some ground since then, but I salute y'all here from 2021, TX USA, and admire you're still in the fight. Happy to support you.
I got in trouble once with the firearms office, I did exactly what you explained by moving last minute (just down the street from my old place) and didn't get a short term ATT for my glock and after I moved I called for an address change and they lectured me on the phone about the importance of keeping track of restricted firearms, and told me they were going to just give me a warning this time, but next time "bad things would happen" I got lucky but I sure won't forget next time.
thats why our laws should be more like american laws as far as guns go, and yes i have my PAL, but i think we go a little overboard in canada as far as ownership and transport goes, considering that criminals arent going to register and or ask for a att in order to move them around or even own them in fact.
It's not even about protecting your self from evil doers. Firearms are just flat out fun and a challenge that is ever evolving and will never be mastered.
Thanks a lot Rod, really helpful and constructive video about very important information that often times appears complicated and hard to understand. You broke down the information in a very simple and easy to understand way, thanks again for all your hard work.
Oren Hobbes They are not classified as vehicles for hunting purposes. You can only shoot from a water vessel if there are no means of motorized propulsion. If there is a motor on the back, it must be removed from the transom to shoot, no electric trolling motors either. This is the law for anyone hunting from the water for any species, in Ontario anyways.
I found a really nice old wooden box in a junk yard . I strapped it on the deck of my truck .Written all over it was : " 30 Only Hand Grenades " . The cops had a bird , on the way home .
How about you stop letting criminal politicians tell you what you can and can't own ! As an American I know a thing or two about giving criminal politicians the finger >:D
A good question would be what about motor homes? Are they vehicules when on their jacks or are they a building. Key word is on their jacks because it would be like a modular home or a pillar bassed foundation.
Civil advantage, you're a stand up guy, love the comic flair also, a nice departure from the usual drone of the cletuses on some of these gun video's. Regarding the documentation requirements, you may want to add that those who are privileged enough to own an antique handgun should carry the letter from the RCMP identifying it as such if you're packing it in the bush.
love that you emphasized the legal aspect. to many new shooters assume common sense will applies to our laws. second, love it or hate it guns are a political issue. the only way to change the gun laws is through political process, anything less is criminal.
I know, Our laws up here are quite rediculous, we need more gun lobby. Its one area I envy the US. And even with all the laws, people still get shot, just with illegal guns smuggled into the country, out gun laws do nothing, just disarm law abiding citizens and arm drug dealers in Toronto and Vancouver etc.
Awesome presentation! Question for you please: If a restricted firearm owner owned a large property could he/ she shoot their guns on their properties? (I'm thinking NOT, unless you get it designated as a firing range but please do tell)
No which is super silly. I knew a guy who got his yard certified as a private range (or something I’m not sure exactly what it’s called) but it cost him a TON of money because they had all the rules about the berm height and all that and after a few years he gave up
QUESTION - Fast Forward almost 8 Years (July 2021) - Do you still need to get a SHORT TERM AUTHORIZATION to TRANSPORT if you have an RPAL & Restricted Firearms?
good advice always go one more step towards safety because we know the law but those that inforce it sometimes do not so always error on the side of safety Keep out of trouble and be Safe my fellow gun owners....please
So about magazines. The obvious way around the 5 round rifle cap would be buying a 3D printer and producing to round mags marked for pistol use. That or for .50 beowulf caliber rifles. Heck you could produce 30rders as long as you have etched into them that they are for that mosberg bolt gun that takes ar mags. Intended use is a fun thing because it doesnt effect actual use.
Not going to lie. The whole pinned mag thing rustles my jimmies pretty hard. Totally legal to have 6+1 in my 30-30 but god forbid my .308 have more then 5.
I think it depends on where you live. I always have a loaded shotgun with me in the bush. Never a round in the chamber. Call the conservation office where you live and ask them.
when I grew up everyone had a gun rack in the back window of their pickup. no one freaked out about it. you telling people to keep them out of sight is doing a dis service to firearms owners. the public should be made aware that ownership and transport is legal and normal.
Another story. My buddies and I were out shooting down the logging roads. They were drinking rum, I was not. They didn't get drunk as it was only a little bit. But on are way out of the logging roads was a road block. I got pulled over, the officer could smell the rum and I had to do a breathalyzer test. The officer clearly saw my Vz 58 on the back seat of my truck but didn't care when I passed the breathalyzer test and told him I was the DA for my two friends.
And I thought the laws in New York State were bad. Here in Pennsylvania it's not at all uncommon to see folks openly carrying loaded handguns in Starbucks or Wal-Mart - you don't even need a permit or license of any kind. I knew Canada had tough firearm laws, but I never dreamed they were to such an extreme. I wish you guys the best.
Have people been aware of the petitions with the nfa to remove magazine cap restrictions and removing the ar-15 variants from the restricted list? Great thing they're doing, have fun and be safe guys and gals.
Outstanding! You said aloud what I've been thinking. I will continue using my LAR-15 ten round pistol mags and, more importantly, I'm armed with the RCMP interpretation of magazine capacity laws downloaded on my phone. You never know when that might come in handy at the gun club. Alex G
Interesting tidbit about restricted firearms, I'm not 100% sure about this but, to my knowledge you can carry a .22 handgun for the purpose of dispatching improperly trapped animals under the authority of a Canadian trappers licence, and an RPAL. Again not 100% sure, I heard that from the man who taught me the trapping course, could be that the laws were changed since then.
A lot of times there is provincial legislation in place that states how / when you can transport even NR firearms. For examples, in my province firearms have to be encased at night and your only allowed to transport firearms to the range, gun smith, or hunting, etc. Also, even a lot of cops and firearms owners don't know that you can legally have load mags with your gun, as long as they are not in the firearm, all you need for transport of NR is for the firearm to be unloaded,
Can't let them win. Besides, if you take a CFSC with a good quality instructor you'll be comfortable with all the requirements. It's not bad enough to give up your guns.
The law allows you to carry a restricted pistol if you have a registered trapline as a trapper. You don't need to sneak anything. Pretty much range/competition use only other than that.
so if im drunk and pushing a wheel barrow or shoping cart i can get a dui? lol i moved and it was about 6 months and i only have non restricted... i called them and told them ware i lived... no prob...
Krist the more I hear and read about what you Canucks have to go through, I am so happy I'm in the lower 48. I would feel naked if I couldn't carry my 1911 concealed! Let alone have my AK in my truck. and God forbid I had a shotgun on the tractor!
Cali is stricter in some ways, Canada in others. I can have a 12.5 inch barrel on a shotgun, non-restricted, not registered, take it with me everywhere. AR's XCR's bullpups, all fine to own. No concealed carry in Canada though...
Question. Is a person able to store their hunting rifles at their hunting cabin? In other words can a person store their nonrestricted firearms in a building which is not their primary residence? it may be a cabin on private property or a "mini storage" in the city. looking for clarification. Thanks love your videos.
I got off lucky. I moved and call the CFP a couple days later and they just took my address and didn't give me any crap. Though they didn't change my mailing address; because naturally if I move I'm still going to have my mail sent to my old house.
Thank you for getting back to me so quibkly but I am little nervous about the "asking for a friend" approach. The registration certificate clearly indicates the capacity of the firearm and I have never been approached by the firearm centre in all these years of renewing my PAL. Every 5 years for 40 years. I don't suppose it's an issue you could raise with them from a purely "academic" perspective as a qualified instructor???? I know of people who still legally possess many firearms which are now ruled prohibited weapons but were not at the time of purchase , even items such as 2 inch snub nose revolvers and .25 and .32 caliber pistols.

I have comfort in knowing that not just anyone can get a gun here with zero experience or education on firearms. It was nice of you to like your own comment though! LOL!
@@seeya205 LOL You must like it enough to like yours. I see your PM passed a Gun Ban last year, how's that working out for you? You know because CRIMINALs follow the laws up there I hear. Or didn't they get the memo? What about that RCMP officer Gabriel Wortman going on a rampage?
@@bobdobalina8910 He wasn't a RCMP officer! LOL! The gun ban didn't effect me because I own hand guns but shootings have gone up since the ban since Justin gave criminals a free pass. I still behind my comment that people should have to be educated before owning a firearm.
SeverdSeouL very well said. Thank you very much. It's hard to fathom the level of plain stupidity out there. Just blows my mind.
@@TheWiseDaws Having rules is fair. In Canada, our rules are unfair, illogical, anti-evidence based, and arbitrary. If we were stronger advocates for our own rights, we'd have better laws. All firearms users need to advocate better for our own rights.
I left the police state (Canada) in 2001. I cannot believe how the people allow themselves to be slowly boiled alive.
You made the right choice, it's only going downhill from here. This country is unsalvageable. The brainwashing runs too deep.
So you left instead of fighting for your rights and that's our fault? LMAO! What did you do while you were here to change the laws?

@david jeffery Right!
That is a good one. Very overlooked, and true.
The paperwork doesn't keep the public safe, but it does give more power and control to the government.
And less freedom for citizens. Not a coincidence.
Exactly! CFO has it all on file and it should be in the Police records so they can simply look it up if they want to.
it's great to have someone so reasonable making videos like this!
This was a very informative video. I had no idea that Canada had so many firearm restrictions, and my heart goes out to all of you and I hope that you keep fighting to remove as many useless restrictions as you can. I live in North Carolina USA and would like to extend an open invitation to come down here and not have to deal with such non sense.
God Bless
Unfortunately here, it's not a right to own firearms.
The government has created these laws to harass and attack gun owners The Liberals gun control act of 1995 declared Canadian gun owners as a threat to public safety. So gun owners are monitored and checked every 24 hours in a database because they are considered mass murderers in waiting.
Subservient to aristocracy
Im in Suffolk Va brother
I know it's a 7 year old comment, but it's easier for an illegal immigrant or others to come to America to live than a Canadian, who are almost culturally and ideologically the same as an American. It's complete bs that we don't have easier means to immigrate to eachothers countries.
I'm not a hunter but that sounds fine to me. Some provinces have extra regulations. I'd call the conservation office near you to clarify.
There are too many rules regarding guns in Canada. It is fucking stupid and a waste of time and money.
They are using .223 pistol mags (10 rounds) in a rifle. If a pistol mag can be used in a rifle it's ok. It's still a pistol mag. I'll have a video on this specifically, in about a week.
wow ...wow...wow... GOD BLESS TEXAS!!
Thank you Rod. I watch this vid from time to time because you do a great job of conveying to us not to be careless or complacent and if we do there are serious consequences. I always follow the law and indeed go above the requirements just in case, God forbid, I somehow made a mistake. Excellent vid and reminder with a little bit of humor in it.
this is what liberalism does to a good nation
LIEberalism leads to socialism. socialism leads to naziism or communism (extreme left) which in turn confiscates guns then procedes to kill 10's of millions of people!
@@halburd1 unironically, it's the right wing militias in south america that are the most likely to begin attacking Indigenous people. Just saying bdo
how exactly are we supposed to stand on GUARD for thee if the bastards keep restricting us? with what slingshots but we can only have 3 stones in our pouch?
Less then a year ago I was one of those people that wasn't aware guns were legal in Canada. After a tour of a brand new local Cabela's I was floored to see restricted handguns for sale out on display.
I now "legally" own a 9mm Jericho 941 which I have a blast taking to the range :D
As much as I enjoy being allowed to fire off guns at approved ranges, a lot of the rules & regulations of my new found sport are pretty grey. I applaud you for shedding light on them for those of us just starting out.
I'm happy to welcome you to our community. Spread the good word!
Another good, STRAIGHT FORWARD video... If only our gun laws had the same logic!
Thanks for all you do!
careful you do not get charged with shooting from a roadway if that deer comes wandering by... Better to stay well off roadways...
After watching this it seems like the laws were written for heavy population cities but enforced country wide. These laws would suck for a person far from town. If I was out in the forest of Canada I would certainly want a fire arm close at hand.
I live in the USA so stuff like open carry and 100 round mags are legal and you guys have it hard up there and I fell sorry for you
A voice of reason in the widerness.
Thats true for restricted. Shotguns and rifles you can shoot outside of city limits
In Canada, you can shoot any "non-restricted" firearm providing your municipality allows it and the firearm can be safely discharged on your property (think farmland, etc away from dwellings)
you are the perfect exemple of how a pro gun need to talk to public. very interresting
New to your web site, very instructive and usefull !!
Keep on the good work !
this is a bigger headache to buy and own a restricted gun then it is to illegally own one. I cant stand the gun laws here in Canada.
It should be! It's easier to steal a car and drive it then it is to get a license, buy a car, get insurance, plates , sticker, safety and pay gas but do we want it to be easy?
Goat what’s your point ? 5 years later.
@@yabodmon Your point is still invalid. It's easier to break the law in all aspects.
that magazine capacity only applies to semi-automatic centre fired guns
Thanks for all the great vids and keep up the good work
No, only a boat with a motor is (as far as I understand). Even if it was a vehicle you still don't need any secure locking devices, just unloaded.
yes canoes and kayaks enven a paddle boat is a vehicle
Oren Hobbes They are not classified as vehicles for hunting purposes. You can only shoot from a water vessel if there are no means of motorized propulsion. If there is a motor on the back, it must be removed from the transom to shoot, no electric trolling motors either. This is the law for anyone hunting from the water for any species, in Ontario anyways.
I found a really nice old wooden box in a junk yard . I strapped it on the deck of my truck .Written all over it was : " 30 Only Hand Grenades " . The cops had a bird , on the way home .
Rod you forgot one more, Always make sure you have your firing pin in your firearm. Hahaha
I tuck the firearm behind the 2nd seat where it can't be seen. I have also used the tonneau cover to keep things out of view.
You have up to 30 days AFTER you move to notify the Firearms Officer in your province.
Non restricted!! Others require an authorization to transport before you move them.
How about you stop letting criminal politicians tell you what you can and can't own !
As an American I know a thing or two about giving criminal politicians the finger >:D
your being screwed harder then us
I got in trouble with the RCMP and almost got got charged with having concealed weapon. So good idea to keep the book with your range bags
Very well put at the end with regards to contacting and becoming part of the solution instead of just complaining and pointing fingers, very smart, very refreshing. Going for my firearms license on the 19th August, can't wait. Looking to get a nice little rim shot semi auto .22LR. Need something with a little more umph than my paintball gun :) for target practice etc.

Great stuff No nonsense. Great message.
Excellent, thanks very much; two questions: Is a horse a vehicle? Is a canoe (no motor) a vehicle?
Regarding the documentation requirements, you may want to add that those who are privileged enough to own an antique handgun should carry the letter from the RCMP identifying it as such if you're packing it in the bush.
He's not kidding. I've heard 2nd hand, long before the Firearms Act, of people being charged for leaning a gun against a truck while having lunch.
love that you emphasized the legal aspect. to many new shooters assume common sense will applies to our laws. second, love it or hate it guns are a political issue. the only way to change the gun laws is through political process, anything less is criminal.
Thanks.
the more I listen to this, the more i am fuckin amazed. Stand Up Canada!!!
#5, The wording on the act states "In or on"
Excellent as always Rod. I wrote my MP for the first time two days ago. Hopefully we can get some things changed.
Fight for your rights man, don't let it get worse in the USA. Thanks for watching.
Awesome presentation!
Question for you please:
If a restricted firearm owner owned a large property could he/ she shoot their guns on their properties? (I'm thinking NOT, unless you get it designated as a firing range but please do tell)
No which is super silly. I knew a guy who got his yard certified as a private range (or something I’m not sure exactly what it’s called) but it cost him a TON of money because they had all the rules about the berm height and all that and after a few years he gave up
wow , these are hard to handle laws.... i wish the best for all you guys.... god bless you all
luv your vids very educational and obviously common sense..thx.....
QUESTION - Fast Forward almost 8 Years (July 2021) - Do you still need to get a SHORT TERM AUTHORIZATION to TRANSPORT if you have an RPAL & Restricted Firearms?
I think so. You still need an ATT if you are taking it anywhere other than to/from the range.
good advice always go one more step towards safety because we know the law but those that inforce it sometimes do not so always error on the side of safety Keep out of trouble and be Safe my fellow gun owners....please
ATT as of July 2015 is now apart of your R. PAL, although you still need to have a valid address on your PAL registration.
I really appreciate the videos you post, lots of great information and tons of common sense!
good info. I'm looking to get my gun license soon and I didn't know about several of these rules.
Intended use is a fun thing because it doesnt effect actual use.
then if you have a wilderness carry permit, its an additional set of hoops to jump through
I remember the days when I could take my vz58 out of the city and target practice.
Not going to lie. The whole pinned mag thing rustles my jimmies pretty hard. Totally legal to have 6+1 in my 30-30 but god forbid my .308 have more then 5.
I just subscribed.
Thank you for a very common-sense video
I think it depends on where you live. I always have a loaded shotgun with me in the bush. Never a round in the chamber. Call the conservation office where you live and ask them.
It would be pretty impossible to hunt if you had to load it after you saw the animal. LOL!
when I grew up everyone had a gun rack in the back window of their pickup. no one freaked out about it. you telling people to keep them out of sight is doing a dis service to firearms owners. the public should be made aware that ownership and transport is legal and normal.

Great vid, really appreciate the time you've put into the series.
I was initially put off by the intro, but damn what a fantastic video!
ok, so no pointing guns at the sunroof, but i can hop on my chopper with the rifle slung across my back on a highway as long as it's unloaded? :)))
Also, even a lot of cops and firearms owners don't know that you can legally have load mags with your gun, as long as they are not in the firearm, all you need for transport of NR is for the firearm to be unloaded,
Awesome video. Really good information to put out there, by a really good speaker BTW.
Thanks for that!
I am glad that I live in the USA.... And California has one of the strictest gun laws. But not this strict like Canada!
"Paper work keeps the public safe", LOL.
Can't let them win. Besides, if you take a CFSC with a good quality instructor you'll be comfortable with all the requirements. It's not bad enough to give up your guns.
another thing that everyone should remember: Never point a firearm at someone else, even when unloaded
The law allows you to carry a restricted pistol if you have a registered trapline as a trapper. You don't need to sneak anything.
Pretty much range/competition use only other than that.
Great video here,thanks
so if im drunk and pushing a wheel barrow or shoping cart i can get a dui? lol i moved and it was about 6 months and i only have non restricted... i called them and told them ware i lived... no prob...
sgt. Nickel - its Where . not Ware or Wear. anyone can learn to shoot a gun but stupid is FOREVER. this is why our GUN laws are the way they are.
If you drink and ride your kids tricycle... DUI.
Keep up the info. I'm writing my letter now. I have my restricted license, but not interested in a hand gun as I can't even shoot it in the bush.
