    I just found you girls on RUclips. I love you both as well as your family. You're special to me because I have Twin sons. They are 27 this year. One of my sons just got engaged last year. They're 5 minutes apart. Lol. I have a specific type of rock you may be interested in. They are primarily found in one place, but pretty plentiful. They are Petoskey stones. They are only found in and immediately around Petoskey, Michigan. It is the north-western side of the mitten! They are beautiful when polished. I have seen some that were about 3 pounds, and others the size of a pebble. Just wanted to let you know that. Keep up the good work girls! Enjoying you all so much.

    Have you ever heard of rocks that contain pockets of water with small air bubbles? I've seen some that had just come out of a mine and were translucent enough to see that they contained water completely trapped in the rock with a small air bubble? What is this called and is it something you usually see? They look kinda like a snow globe type thing only in a rough rock. I love me some rocks. People are all the time asking me why I have this or that rock sitting on my porch. I can't always give them a good reason except that I found it and I liked it. Awesome video, keep up the great work. God bless y'all😁

I like that you carry the hope of one day being able to facet gemstones. I’m 55 and I still love to learn. While I don’t do what you do, I quilt, embroider, garden, and preserve. I’m always trying to improve the talents God gave me. Keep learning. It keeps your mind on good things. I understand your love of the creek. It’s probably where you meet with God. I learned something new! This was cool… and the rock turned out real nice. This sort of reminded me of cutting pearl for instrument inlay. I’ve made a few banjos and have used pearl for inlay but have always had the idea of inlaying stone before. It would be unique for sure! Have thought of colored glass too but don’t know how it would turn out… metal/copper etc. But reckon you could inlay anything into a piece of wood/fingerboard though if you done it right… it’d be pretty cool to have different little flat pieces of polished rock inlays down a instrument neck! Or to set a piece of rock in the peg head as a centerpiece of some sort. Anyway it was a cool video to see your process!

    • @thepressleygirls
      @thepressleygirls  3 года назад

      Yes you probably could inlay just about anything into the wood. Some materials might be tricky but it could all be done. And well you can get a rock pretty dang thin if it’s the right kind of rock. Some rocks can go that thin and others will break! But I’ve never tried to get them that thin before! Cool thought though! Thank you friend!

    My high school had a course in lapidary. We did not use as many grits but did use a felt wheel with cerium oxide for the final polish. One thing that stood out in this video, was the spitter style of providing water on the wheels. This going throw bits of rougher grit up on finer wheels. Something one definitely does not want to do when using abrasives to sharpen knives or chisels, or when used to sand wood. Seems like you really only want clean water falling from the top of each wheel.

      Indeed you take a risk with this kind of machine to have your wheels contaminated like that. They make machines with fresh water on each wheel. I actually had one like that before I got this one!

    My mom and dad used to have a place in Franklin N.C., and they had a gravel filled driveway. You could pick up almost any one of the pieces of gravel, and it would have what looked like amethyst encrusted on it. It was a rich medium purple that was transparent with a very smooth surface. I wish i would have saved some to keep.

There is no doubt that you are so knowledgeable about this. I think you could take my driveway gravel and turn them into a thing of beauty. I am just in awe. I will never look at a rock the same. I didn’t know (until watching your videos) the meaning of lapidary. Never thought to Google it. I just assumed I had an odd obsession with rocks.😅
