Say what you want about the gameplay itself, but you can't deny the fact that FF Mystic Quest had some of the most epic and memorable music in the FF series
The gameplay isn't even bad, FFMQ was very easy, but that was the intent, it's an easily digested game to serve as a gateway for kids who want to get into JRPGs.
I wish my sword was awesome enough to help spell the letter Q, but I guess we can't all be as cool as Benjamin. Or Zash. Or DEMOPLAY. Or whatever we're calling him lately.
i remember the first time i heard this particular track as a kid. you walk in from the secret entrance to get the chest in the bottom right corner, you see all the quicksand and you hear this track. i was absolutely terrified, like "what did i just come in to?!"
You know how after you finish the Fireburg area and you're traveling through the Focus Tower to the Windia area, you have a brief stop-off in Doom Castle's first area to pick up the Aero spell? I would always spend about a minute there just making Benjamin dance back and forth in the tiny space you have there just so I could rock out to this theme. It's SO awesome.
Same here! I remember seeing this area for the first time wondering "Where the hell is this? Why can't I explore it? What are those enemies that I cant reach?"
Very much the same. As I would be returning to my quest, I'd be wondering "what was that place?", "why does it have such grand music?", and "is that the final dungeon? Because that music sounds like final dungeon music." I played FF4 at the same time/age as a kid, and watching my mum going through the Lunar Underground in FF4 and thinking how the music there had the same air of finality (a concept I was too young to grasp at 10 years old).
Truly a great game. It doesn't require you to do so much planning, time wasting, or strategy. BUT the soundtrack will keep you coming back for more! One of the BEST total soundtracks ever put together for a game. These old school RPGs are a lot like the first Conan movie. Not much in the way of dialogue and the music tells the story. This is something modern RPGs tend to lack. I'm looking at you Final Hallway XIII.
As I heard this music for the first time, I could envision He-man raising his sword up and shouting his war cry as he ran toward Skeletor's hordes. And I just sat there for the longest time just listening.
what I find interesting about this song is that because they use a rock/metal soundfont for the original version, I actually greatly prefer it to remixes done on electric guitar
I will never get sick of this soundtrack, even after having first heard it all those years ago. Played this game in 3rd grade and it's what got me into the more challenging RPGs. And I freaking loved (and love) the music.
1:13 - 1:16 That's one of my favorite parts. I just love that hardcore, menacing undertone as it loops back into the main part. The phrase right before it (1:03 to 1:12) is like: "danger is lurking here somewhere..." and then 1:13 kicks in and it's like "oh shit, it's here!"
Incredible track, and what a surprise for me! I haven't played ffmq before and discovered this track from the new theatrhythm, the whole ost is so good
LoliHaetPizza dude, that comment was like, 7 months ago XD i still liked the whole story thing altho it was weird just like any other Japanese plots (i mean seriously)
Mark Samenfink It's still fricken awesome, and I'm actually replaying the game in steps. The music is great, and randomly humming some of it at work is what made me get it out to play it again. Probably mostly nostalgia talking, but I feel this is one of the greatest games for SNES.
It's basically this game's life. Remove the music and the game is gone (this game was litterally made because at the time japan thought north america were babies...)
I remember entering this one area far off from before finishing the game, and I could hear this theme, and I think see part of the Doom Castle. Got me pumped :)
The battle music is more seated into my head, but this one fits in great. One little part sounds like sephy is looming nearby- of course it’s not even the same composer or even platform.. but ya.
Get the fuck off your youtube gamer celebrity band wagon. The people who actually played this game will tell you its a good game. You sound like you just follow trends fuck off lol try playing it and by playing it I mean don't watch a lets play and think you beat it.
Bundyrum .owns, I played it and enjoyed it solely because I can play games just for the music itself. If you insert some random generic soundtrack into the game you won't get much enjoyment out of it, even as a die-hard jrpg fan.
+etherraichu oh not even close. I'd say Chrono Trigger and Lufia 2 pushed the audio to it's max. But Mystic Quest definitely showed everyone what the SNES was capable of early on.
+Michel van der Linden Uh yeah actually... The music in this game is superior to that of all SNES games EXCEPT; Ys 3, Seiken Densetsu 3, and Lufia 2. Terranigma had great sound quality as well. Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, FFIV, FFV, and FFVI, and Super Castlevania IV are honorable mentions.
I'm so desperate for Square Enix to start releasing their retro games on the Virtual Console that I would gladly take Mystic Quest first. Music like this and the Battle Theme 1 track from Mystic Quest is the reason the SNES kicked the Genesis's ass in the 16 bit era.
When I got the fire coin and proceeded to the next door, a set of stairs leading down to who knows where. Curiously I left the door alone for now and proceeded down the stairway. Then my ears are hit with the sounds of SNES style rock, stood there for about 10 minutes. So much better than Frieburg's rock band.
Uematsu's earlier work was his best but I think after a while, he just started recycling the same riffs and segments to create his newer works... its all starting to sound the same. I agree though, this game has one of my favorite soundtracks.
Definitely not, it was composed by Ryuji Sasai and Yasuhiro Kawakami, and you can tell there were two composers as well. For example, the town theme and the battle themes have styles so different they couldn't be the same composer.
This game is friggin awesome and the criticism that I see it receiving seems to be very biased and unreasonable. It’s not supposed to be an epic sprawling rpg. It’s a tight, simple, light-hearted RPG with excellent execution. In my opinion, this game is nearly flawless. I absolutely love it and have replayed it about a bazillion times.
Sound track artists today should really take a look at this game for inspiration for today's RPGs. In my opinion, very few can compete with the complete soundtrack of Mystic Quest.
Say what you want about the gameplay itself, but you can't deny the fact that FF Mystic Quest had some of the most epic and memorable music in the FF series
The music had no business being this good.
The gameplay isn't even bad, FFMQ was very easy, but that was the intent, it's an easily digested game to serve as a gateway for kids who want to get into JRPGs.
a139k view is very respectable for formely one of the worst final fantasy game which is now among the top 10 I my opinion...
That's the legacy of Ryuji Sasai, he also composed treasure of the rudras OST and is fucking awesome, I miss his composing style :(
@@solblackguy the music made this game worth playing, without it i would have never finished it
his sword is so awesome not only it kills people but it helps spell the letter Q
I had to look at my screen. lol
Thats what happens when water cant reach your brain.

LOL right!?
Nonsense
Yeah, the Aero spell. Love this music.
I totally remember this too. Was a genius idea to give you a taste of the last level music. Don't see many games doing this.
Lol dude 100% exactly. You walk in and this track starts playing and immediately you're like "I'm definitely not supposed to be here!"
It does rock. I used to play this game as a kid just to hear this music.
Red88Rex same here!

I did the same thing!
so thankful for legacy youtube channels that are still up
The trick is to maintain a low profile.
My motivational Theme for traveling to the GYM.
The SNES "distortion guitar" sound kicks ASS. Made me a metalhead before I was even 9.

this has, in my opinion, the best FF soundtrack by far. and yes, i have played 6
Toss up with FF3
Hold your tongue!
This has nothing to do with final fantasy. It just has the name up there. This is not a ff game
@@86leewis It's a FF game. Deal with it.
You are right
I will never get sick of this soundtrack, even after having first heard it all those years ago. Played this game in 3rd grade and it's what got me into the more challenging RPGs. And I freaking loved (and love) the music.
all the metal covers of this game's sound track are so epic.

Just when you thought this gem's music couldn't get any more awesome this epic theme blows your balls to the walls.
Stuff like Megaman X and this shows why metal has a proper place in gaming :P
That and Doom
and pokey means business
And Romancing SaGa 3.
*Rapes.*
I never grew up with Mystic Quest. That guitar riff in the beginning made me think it was from a Final Fight or Captain Commando game
This tune lives rent free in my brain forever
I always went to this zone just to listen to the music. You knew you were getting close to the end when you heard this, shit's getting serious!
best final boss area soundtrack fucking ever
0:00 IT'S GUTS MAN!
DA NUUUNNN!
So much memories linked to that theme
Incredible track, and what a surprise for me! I haven't played ffmq before and discovered this track from the new theatrhythm, the whole ost is so good
Mystic Quest was kind of a "Beginner's JRPG" but you know what? It was still FUN! I still love this game.
This Game has two great things:
1st Nostalgia
2nd Soundtrack
+♫ Kazumamon - Osu! Gameplays ♫
This particular track almost sounds like something from Sega Genesis. =D
@@Peter_1986 It kinda does:D
*Hugs*
And two mediocre things
1. Gameplay
2. Lack of a sequel
This song has lived rent free in my head for 33 years
oh GOD this soundtrack
My childhood has returned!
The early 90's were AWESOME!
***** indeed
Mystic Quest is hands down THE best RPG in history and easily Square's best ever
xGoodOldSmurfehx
Whoa, slow down there.
It has amazing music that hasn't been topped in a Square game yet, but the gameplay and plot were pretty bad.
LoliHaetPizza

That weird Japanese plot is what made it awesome!
A time we'll never get back, I really miss those times.
8-bit metal. Mystic quest still has the best FF soundtrack.
16 bit.
XRazzalyn Derp, you are correct

DevilJinKazama It is absolutely nostalgic, makes you really wanna fight the dark king and save the world
0:00-0:12 best rift ever!
you cant deny that this game had heart and soul. Miss squareSOFT
This game had the best OST in terms of actual music and not vocalized songs.
Back when the music had to be good, and wasn't cut drastically for graphics. I miss those days.
Matthew Rodda me too.
The music had no business being this good
It's basically this game's life. Remove the music and the game is gone (this game was litterally made because at the time japan thought north america were babies...)
I absolutely believe this track to be the greatest of the entire Final Fantasy series.
Right up there with Dark Omen and Love's Rightful Time for epic final dungeon tracks
MASTERPIECE
Sounds like a mix between "She Works Hard for the Money" and "Crazy Train." I love it!
Best Final Dungeon music in any game, ever.
Yes, though FF7 comes close in my mind. This one is the best though.
@@diamondlancer Funnily enough both Doom Castle and Judgement Day are two of my favourite RPG themes.

it's so exaggerated but really fun to listen...
They mustve pushed the SNES's audio capabilities to the limit with this game

no revenge of shinobi, streets of rage. actual music that holds up today.
dude, rock and funk was exactly the kind of music that the Genesis synthesizer did better.

It's hard to believe that an RPG that was supposed to be entry-level, and not for a regular RPG fan could have such fantastic music!
Square made right the choice to have a composer who primarily makes rock and metal
tha fuking riff is so fuking badass

You know, for a "RPG on Training Wheels", they didn't have to go hard for their music, but they did.
