We got hit with about 6" of the white stuff yesterday. Still too icy to go riding since the city only clears main streets. Just stay safe while riding through that white blanket.
Yeah, that’s why I didn’t venture too far. I just got 8 miles in. Side streets are unridable with normal bikes. We do what we can, when we can 😊 Thank you buddy. Be safe out there! ❄️
@@IowaNinersFan Studded tires don't guarantee anything and they cost way too much. Taking a few days off is a whole lot safer and don't have to worry about drivers who can't drive in snow/ice.
if you don't get much snow I wouldn't invest in the studded tires, as you said it might melt away, as long as you can stand the wind chill from riding and keep to the bare roads you can still get out for a ride, nice that people in your town were helping the homeless
Yeah, for sure. I was stoked to see homeless being help out and they seemed excited. I camp for fun and had many miserable nights, even with top of the line gear. I can’t even imagine what they go through. Thank you so much Craig! I’ll try to make it through winter with what I already have 😊 Hope all is well up North!
You're missing one benefit about this cold/windy weather we're getting; near as I can tell it's just you, me and Tim using the trails. There's the occasional dog walker but, otherwise, I'm pretty much alone and can go where I want without hindrance. I'm really enjoying these rides, though, it is hard leaving the warmth of the house. I've seen Tim a few times, I can't believe I've never seen you. Don't be alarmed if an old dude on a yellow cruiser stops you to say hello sometime.
Yellow cruiser. I’ll look out for you 😊& I agree it is nice having trails to ourselves. I was thinking to try Sawatra perhaps tomorrow. Doubt I’ll see anyone there. That would be lovely. Thank you for the motivation 🙏
Agreed. It’s a battle to be motivated in the 30’s. Mostly for me laying up. I hate it! I hate putting on double socks and base layers. Shorts, tank top and a nice breeze from momentum? That’s living!
Where in Iowa? I bike commute everyday as well. Haven't seen much snow in Des Moines. I complained about not getting to try my Nokian studded tires and my co-workers give me cold shoulders every time. 😂
Agreed. I’m sure studs are helpful but I don’t need it. Clearly. I rode without ‘em and was fine. + you say you have for years without. Thanks for confirmation! 😊
@ First studded tires I had I had to make. Back in early 90’s living up in VT teaching 🏂 and ⛷️. Had them on my KHS that I still have lol. I just remember thinking how unimpressed I was compared to what a pain in the ass they were to make. They definitely didn’t live up to the hype I had created in my head 😂😂 Have good rest of weekend..
@rockeastwood if you ever want to come to NJ when the weather gets warm, we usually ride over the GW bridge and go down the Greenway path to lower Manhattan and towards the Brooklyn Bridge, then we take the PATH train or the ferry back to NJ...Your welcome if you ever want to come ride...I'm going to drive to Florida in a couple weeks, and stay there for about 6 weeks, so I can continue my cycling uninterrupted. I can handle the cold, except when it's windy...An old friend of mine who lives in Florida loves cycling...The only problem with Florida is that it's more dangerous with traffic.
The river looks awesome! They drain the Erie Canal to prevent locks and docks from damage so don't get to see flows much anymore.
Interesting. Yeah, I didn’t know that. I actually don’t know much about Erie canal. I’m gonna check it out. Thanks!
More good stuff Rock!!! Keep pedaling and stay warm 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you very much, Larry!
I must say; you are very consistent Rock my friend. You ride your bike anywhere, any time. 😁👍🏼😁👍🏼
It’s easy for me to be lazy so I push myself out the door. I wasted A LOT of time in my life. No more 😊 Thank you Braxx! 🙏
I thought you might be accidentally going for a very cold swim in the river a couple of times. Yikes. Good ride!
Haha no. No polar bear club for me 😊 Thank you Kathryn 🙏

Too icy even for studded tires?

Great ride brother!
I appreciate that, Kraig 🙏

@rockeastwood we got little over 12 inches of snow on Christmas Eve but it's all gone and bare again but cold
🥶🥶

Might have to add a Kona Unit X to your stable for winter trail riding….
No. Don’t put and ideas in my head! 😂
100% right. 40s is good 50s are better but 60s and 70s are awesome. Anything under 35 with wind absolutely sucks..

Iowa is pretty cold. I commute everyday. I honestly kind of like the cold. Neg 1 this year is the coldest I have ridden.
-1! Jeez. I suppose we as humans get acclimated pretty easily. You do it a few times and you get callused. 😊

I love riding in the snow . I don’t love studs.. That’s just my opinion over the years.

You got out for a ride and had some fresh air saddle time. That’s all that matters. ❄️❄️

Upatate NY were ridng Fat bikes with studs
Yeah. If I lived where we had more consistent snow I’d certainly consider it. Whatever keeps you riding!
Days are getting bigger every day. Like yer outlook. Don't over equip. on winter stuff for such a small window.
Thank you Tilley. Yeah, I have enough “stuff” in my life. Don’t want to over complicate it. Bring on the BIGGER days ☀️
I cringed when you stood your bike up on the steps.....One wind gust is all it takes, and it's been very windy up here in Northern NJ.
The bridges block the wind in that spot. I wouldn’t jeopardize my green machine! 😊
