It is so tragic when the samples leak 😭 I LOVE that you swatch them on so many papers!! Thank you so much for swatching all of these 🥰 My top 5 (not including the discontinued inks) would have to be Ajasai, Ku Jaku, Yu Yake, Chiku Rin, and Tsutsuji. My predictions for the ones that would be discontinued: Momiji, Kiri Same, and Syo Ro or Ku Jaku. I really hope they bring in a true red, another lighter brown, and a light purple. It will be interesting to see what they choose!
I have 2 large bottles of Iroshizuku. I have: Syo-ro and Yama-Budo! I have a 20 ml bottle of Tsuki-yo. I also love Kosumosu and Tsu-Tsuji, Murasaki Shiki bu. I really really want to see a light honey/brown, and olive and maybe a different purple or a more dusty pink to purple. A dark gray would be nice.
wowowow! what a thorough and useful breakdown of these inks. i love the testing methodology and the side by sides. i ordered a ku jaku as im partial to the red teal pairing but ill be saving this video as reference for a potential yume budo or momiji purchase in the future.
😂 to the reference to Mercurochrome (aka ‘The Orange Stuff’, I can still feel the burn!) I skinned my left knee horribly (infected a whole mess) when I was about 4. My mom came at me with the orange stuff so many times (I mean, it was for every cut, sore, whatever) but this was a big scrape (I still have a scar!) and she painted it on. About 20 yrs ago when my step-son was little, he fell and scraped his knee, and I went to CVS to get some Orange Stuff for it. Couldn’t find it anywhere, and thought, how am I supposed to take care of this?!? (The fact that we had like 3 tubes of Neosporin didn’t occur to me…kid + scrape/sore = Orange Stuff. I asked the pharmacist where it was and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said, “um, they took that off the market a long time ago.” I asked why, and he said, “cause it’s mercury and chromium…it was putting dangerous heavy metals into your body.” Having just seen Erin Brockovich and the chromium poisoned water, that made sense 😂 Long story, not so short…the result of that painted daily for at least a month skinned left knee has resulted in me getting pulled aside every.single.time I go through TSA to be carefully wanded over my left thigh/knee area (usually in leggings…not sure what’s hiding in there) and nicely, and politely frisked all over. So, I guess I have a lot of heavy metal in my knee…at least enough to make the TSA detector think I’m dangerous. (P.S., the TSA agents are always very polite, professional and I am not bothered at all that they do this…they’re keeping us safe!) Anyway, seeing all of the Iroshizuku line swatched up is something I’ve never seen (they sure do have a lot of blue!) I agree that Yama Budo is gorgeous. Thanks for the swatches on the different paper also.
This is a terrific, informative video on the Iroshizuku inks! Wow!. I'm a Pilot Custom Fountain pen guy, and I've only tried ... maybe 3 of their Iroshizuku inks. They work very well, but for me, I like darker colors, and most of these Pilot inks are too light for my taste. Your idea of swatching so many all at once is Genius! Great way to compare them right in front of you with different types paper. Just so smart. Thanks very much. 🙂 (The fact that you can pronounce these ink names correctly is just wonderful... I can't hardly say Iroshizuku, let alone spell it without having it printed right in front of me... ! ;-) ) I'm going to get some of that there Yama-Guri Wild Chestnut (Dark Brown)... Oh yea, nice and dark 🙂
Your top 5 looks great. I have the og entire line in my collection. And eventhough I have my own selection of faves, I like having the others as well. I wouldn’t buy them all again but these purchases was made a long time ago when samples weren’t really a thing. I am glad you decided to give them fair chance in june because some of them might surprise you in writing form. And since you like playing with inks, may I suggest trying to mix certain colours for those you find missing in hue. You might find that the lighter colours come in handy in that case. Definitely not worth buying the big bottle but you might want to get a couple more samples or a couple of the small bottles if you like want you end up with in the end Great video as usual and I am happy that we will get more of your ink videos in june 😊
I’m interested in seeing the two oranges. They looked almost identical here. But I agree, the lack of honey/golden brown should be rectified. I like that bright yellow green, but wonder about legibility in a pen. Your 30 inks 30 days will be fun to watch! I currently have Momiji and Shin-ryoku. Momiji is really nice. The gold sheen makes me happy.
My first and still current faves are Tsuki-yo, Kosumosu, and Ajisai. I was really surprised by their three newest ones -- Sui-gyoku seems redundant, and Hotaru-bi and Hana-ikada are both so light! I don't want to see any more discontinued tbh, but I would love to see some new warmer shades. Maybe a medium-deep olive green, a golden yellow or yellow-brown, a true red.
I wonder if they added Sui-gyoku to prepare for removing one of the colors it is near to. Perhaps because of a supply issue with one of the dyes? I have no inside info, just wildly guessing here. I seem to be in the mood for that recently.
That was a wonderful, thorough, yet swift exploration of these 24 inks! You held my attention all the way through. Thank you for showing them in such detail.
OMG That was amazing! Absolutely loved the paper comparison. I knew paper changed ink colors, but I didn't imagine it would deffer that much from one brand to another. What happens with Syo-ro is shocking.
Great video on the comparison of all of the current Pilot Iroshizuku inks on different papers! I also love your detailed descriptions of the swatches as well. I like that the inks are don’t dry down as solid colors but have a slight sheen to them without being glittery which can clog some nibs. I’d like to pick up the Kiri-same, fuyu-syogun, Yama-guru, and kosumosu. 😊
Thanks for sharing! 😍 it’s so interesting to see how they look on the different papers, especially chiku-rin, which is one I’ve been curious about for a while! I’ve been so tempted to try the sampler pack because I’ve never tried an iroshizuku ink that didn’t feel amazing in my pens. 🥹 I’ve been hit with pretty high duties from Goulet before, though, so that’s mainly what has stopped me 😬😂
looks like the 2 pinks you like will be going, as well as the brown gray. I hope to order a bottle of each soon. May I ask what you use for the swatch cards, with the hole punched in the top? I could not find it listed in your thorough list. Thank you...for the great comparison...I have never seen anyone be so thorough as you. I love that yellow green...the paler one...for mixing different colours....yellow magenta and cyan...will make great browns....Janis
Fantastic video! I have a bottle of Syo-ro and Fuyu-Syogun. I have Syo-ro inked up this month. I have samples for most of the collection. I want to love fuyu-gaki but it is too orange! if there was something between kosomosu and fuyu-gaki I would get that in a bottle too! Thanks for sharing! 💙
Thank you so much for the deep dive into the Pilot inks! I've been trying to decide on a couple of new bottles of ink and this has helped solidify my choices. I wish I had the $$ to buy a bottle of each color because Pilot produces some of my favorite products, both in fountain pens, ink and regular pens and pencils.
Thank you! I want to order a few more inks and I definitely see colors I want! My current two are Yama budo and syo- ro. I’m definitely getting that pinky peachy one, will need to go back and write the name down. 😊
I love this range. I very recently bought bottles of the ones I love- the greens, purple & greys & I still need yama budo (it was sold out) I like the cornflower colour one & the sakura one too, but didnt buy them. I truly hope they dont get rid of Chiku rin or Yama budo. Thank you for sharing with us (I'm sorry the parcel leaked)😫
I just got a couple of these samples as well and am waiting for them to arrive! I got Tsuki-yo and Shin-Kai and I’m excited to try them out after seeing this video! Beautiful colors here.
Ahh, I've never had such a rough sample leakage issue :( Those two lightest greens are so lovely and I'm surprised that I enjoy the two lightest pinks. I really am not a huge fan of blue ink, it is nice to see these blues compared to each other ❤
Aw, thanks! Goulet Pens customer service helped me out, so all is well now. I'm glad I got all the samples so that I could see the variation in blues and greens in person. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for swatching these on so many papers! I picked up the brochure of inks at the ATL pen show earlier this year and immediately thought of mixing these inks. Have you tried mixing any?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I haven't mixed any, but I've come across some on IG who have shared their mixes. I think that would be a really fun project. In that case, one could use these inks to fill in the color gaps without waiting on Pilot to release new colors! How fun!
Love the variety of inks and paper; makes my color choice much easier! What kind of dip pen are you using? The description suggests a Sailor Hocoro but I’ve never seen one with a wooden handle.
Glad this was helpful for you! The one with the wooden handle is my Kakimori brass nib. It is available through Atlas Stationers (note: the wooden handle can be purchased separately from the same vendor).
Nice! Right, I don't know what I'd do if my favorites end up on the chopping block. I'm already getting nervous just envisioning everyone's mad dash to purchase bottles once the specific inks are finally identified.
It is so tragic when the samples leak 😭 I LOVE that you swatch them on so many papers!! WHAT??? Why would kujaku be discontinued?
Hi Kristen - Was browsing ink reviews and found this video. Thanks for a great demo and detailed swatching magic.
I have 2 large bottles of Iroshizuku. I have: Syo-ro and Yama-Budo! I have a 20 ml bottle of Tsuki-yo. I also love Kosumosu and Tsu-Tsuji, Murasaki Shiki bu. A pen/ink blerd?! Instant follow.
Also, the content was great. Thank you for it!

Awesome! I am definitely curious about the legibility of Hotaru-bi and my future reactions to Momiji. This month is so exciting already!

Wow, that is a reasonable path. The color options would make total sense if that is the case. I look forward to seeing what they do!
Great recovery from the ink leaks during shipping; nice review!! Thanks Kristen!
Aw thank you so much for watching!
Another fantastic video. I am very much looking forward to you next 30inks30days.🥰
Thank you so much!
That was a wonderful, thorough, yet swift exploration of these 24 inks! You held my attention all the way through. Thank you for showing them in such detail.
Yay! You are so welcome!
OMG That was amazing! Absolutely loved the paper comparison. I knew paper changed ink colors, but I didn't imagine it would deffer that much from one brand to another. What happens with Syo-ro is shocking.
Yes, I love to see the differences in ink from paper to paper! I get really excited when I find little surprises like that.
Oh no the ink leaks!! I have bottles of the three previously discontinued inks (Tsuyu-kusa, Ina-ho, and. Tsukushi) if you’d like samples to try them!
I knowww! Goulet Pens CS made it right, so all is well on that end. I'd love to try Tsuyu-kusa and Tsukushi if you don't mind! Thank you!
Great video on the comparison of all of the current Pilot Iroshizuku inks on different papers! I also love your detailed descriptions of the swatches as well. Ouch, duties! I hope you're able to get your hands on more of these inks someday, because the in-person experience is pretty impressive.
Thank you for the video!! Love it
I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Wonderful! Those are great selections 🤩 The pinky peachy one was likely Kosumosu or its lighter friend, Hana-ikada.
I love this range. I very recently bought bottles of the ones I love- the greens, purple & greys & I still need yama budo (it was sold out)

I'm excited to see them all in your pens 🎉
This is the PERFECT review! ❤ Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!

I liked this. You showed me that Yellow/Green, I ordered from Amazon. I only buy Pilot in the mini bottle. Rachelle in Seattle
Oh, nice! I am excited to see how that one looks in a pen this month.
Great swatch video!!
Thank you!!
Fantastic, thanks.
Glad you liked it!
thanks for sharing, I want them all!
Thanks for watching! They do look gorgeous, and it’s perfect that Iroshizuku inks perform very well in pens.
Thank you for swatching these on so many papers! I picked up the brochure of inks at the ATL pen show earlier this year and immediately thought of mixing these inks. Have you tried mixing any?

So sorry for your ink mess. It seems to be ok. Syo-Ro is a good choice to buy. Have fun
Ink spills are always a bit annoying, but Goulet Pens customer service made it right. Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks...I wish there were some water fast inks.
That would be nice. I have heard that de Atramentis (document series) and Octopus Fluids (Write and Draw) make some really good waterproof inks.
Awesome video. Now you make me want to try them all. Where did you get your pamphlet?
Thank you! Pilot was distributing them at the 2023 SF Pen Show.
@@lifeinspiresdesign Oh! Lucky! I might make it to the SF Pen Show some day. This year, I'm going to my first pen show, the PNW Pen Show in Portland.
They do need more browns AND more greens and purples too
Agreed!
Iroshizuku inks are basicallyt the gold standard. If you have a crabby pen, put one of these in it.
Yes, I agree! They've all been excellent so far.
Yu-yake and fuyu-syogun are two of my all-time favorites; I’m already hyperventilating at the thought of them being discontinued 🫣😅
Nice! Right, I don't know what I'd do if my favorites end up on the chopping block. I'm already getting nervous just envisioning everyone's mad dash to purchase bottles once the specific inks are finally identified.
