Thanks for that, eager to see the final results and how it looks when you wear it! I bet it will look great! I love my wigs but if this topper works out for you I think I will try this so I can have an alternative for family vacations and pin it up to sit in a hot tub or gently swim around in a pool with the grand-daughter!
I am going to try this on a short human hair topper I bought on line. I tried to dye it my color (medium brown - like a #4) but it came out too dark, so I will try this and then re-dye the topper and dye my own hair at the same time. Wish me luck! BTW, I really like your videos, thank you for making them.
Good luck with dyeing your topper and hair. Yep, it can always come out a bit different as the color the hair is to begin with and how porous or absorbent it is make a difference too. Just keep trying. :) Glad my videos are helpful.
Thank you for this easy to follow video! I'm about to try dying my human hair wig from dark brown to light brown soon for the first time - fingers crossed it goes well! Quick question for you.. did the bleach process help to dye the knots as well?
Bleaching the knots is slightly different and takes a little more attention to detail. Bleaching the entire wig like in my video will help lessen the knots a bit. Applying a dark dye after bleaching can make those knots reappear. Bleaching knots: use a mix that is a thicker batch of developer and gently apply a thin layer only to the inside of your lace. Leave it on for longer so the knots get a light blonde. Rinse out and dry. Then mix up the dye of your chosen color and gingerly apply to the side with all the hair to any areas where the bleach might have bled thru.
Great ! Can’t wait to do my wig tomorrow ... and my own hair if it comes out ok . I’m wanting to just lighten up my jet black look . I wear my wigs with leave out at the front as my hairline is stupid lol . Thanks for video ! I’ve subscribed 😊😊
Yes, you should wash it and dry it first. Many companies put an oil based or even silicone based sheen even on real human hair products so that during shipping static electricity or such won't dry out the hair.
This can be done on any human hair product like wigs, clip-in extensions, toppers or closures. If it is a full wig and it has a cap with wefts, the inside fabric ribbons can be bleached and color dyed sometimes during the process, but this is the inside of the wig so might not show much.
Bleaching doesn't usually lighten or stain the lace. However, when you use hair dye, it will stain or color the lace. If you don't mind a rooted effect and are very careful with just putting a thick mix of dye on the hairs without touching the lace you can avoid this. However, if the lace get a bit too dark brown you can always fix it with makeup concealer or powder.
You need some sort of bleach powder to mix with the liquid developer. Doesn't have to be blue. Plain powder is at this link for plain white powder www.sallybeauty.com/hair/hair-color/lightener/quick-light-powder-lightener-1-oz/SBS-292250.html?list=Home%7CHair%7CHair%20Color%7CLightener#start=1 Sometimes there are "kits" that have a box with both, a brush and conditioner for after. www.sallybeauty.com/hair/hair-color/lightener/radical-bleach-kit/SBS-140500.html?list=Home%7CHair%7CHair%20Color%7CLightener#start=1
If you have a real human hair wig the first step is bleaching it to a blonde or light brown. Then next step is dyeing it gray. Your beauty supply store will have many shades of gray and silver. See my video on wig dyeing
Wow! Thank you for this tutorial! Your topper turned out so pretty! I was sad because my black human hair topper didn't take the henna hair dye-burgundy color that I had applied, wrapped the topper in plastic then kept warm in bed next to me overnight. Then I watched this vid 2 nights ago, with interest. Guess you have to bleach the hair first then dye it? Or maybe human hair toppers just don’t work with henna dye? Inspired I went to Sally's last night and bought the Prism Bleach Powder and 20 developer creme and followed your complete instructions. Unfortunately when the topper dried I see I missed some hair..still black..so today I redid it, this time using a brush to be more methodical. It worked! Woohoo. It’s not perfect but it’ll do. Now I just have to dye it Burgundy! Going to watch your How to Dye Human Hair Wig video now! ruclips.net/video/Pkzwr07wEH0/видео.html
Glad it was helpful! Dying human hair wigs can be tricky. Henna only works on lighter colors of hair and just darkens or enhances the tone of brown hair. I tried it once on my bio hair, it didn't do much. : ) Missing a few spots while bleaching is pretty common as well. I love burgundy hair colors. Depending on how light you bleached your wig you might even be able to do a temporary Burgundy like from Punky Colors. It is less damaging to human hair, but can be a little messy. It will eventually fade out in 2 to 3 weeks and then you re-apply or pick a new color.
Yes, definitely wash the wig first. Many brands coat the human hair wigs with a sheen spray or even silicone to prevent static and frizziness during shipping or storage.
Im also sitting on hair that claims its unprocessed remy etc. So i appreciate your light skeptical tone going into this.

Thanks! Toppers are a lot of fun. I wear them mostly pinned up. I know some people who swim in normal synthetic wigs.

The cup you used to measure is for dry ingredients ;) not for liquids. Fow off the scalp you can use a 1 to 1 ratio too with most lighteners
haha, you are indeed correct. I like your attention to detail.
Thanks for your help. I will be doing a much smaller human hair piece, bleaching, this video eased my thoughts.
Glad it was helpful!

Good luck! Bleaching and coloring hair is always fun.
wig-guru I always change my hair but I’ve never tried to lighten my wig before just dye black . Wish me luck I’m doing it all today 😄😄😄😄
does the wig need to be washed before bleaching?
Yes, you should wash it and dry it first. Many companies put an oil based or even silicone based sheen even on real human hair products so that during shipping static electricity or such won't dry out the hair.
Can I do this method with a wig ? Or just a frontal or closure
Yes, this method works on human hair wigs.

Does the actual lace part of the topper get stained? I’m worried it won’t come off
Bleaching doesn't usually lighten or stain the lace. However, when you use hair dye, it will stain or color the lace. I put loads of conditioner all over my lace before I dye it and it works as a barrier to the dye 👌🏼
Such clear explanation. Thank you

Can you bleach it without the prism blue lites?

The only way you don't need to bleach if the hair is blonde (613) if the hair is natural black or 1B you need to bleach it to get the color you want
How to get it gray
If you have a real human hair wig the first step is bleaching it to a blonde or light brown. Then next step is dyeing it gray. Your beauty supply store will have many shades of gray and silver. See my video on wig dyeing
Well done
Thanks

Should I wash the human hair before I bleach it if I just got it?
Yes, definitely wash the wig first. Many brands coat the human hair wigs with a sheen spray or even silicone to prevent static and frizziness during shipping or storage.
So, you wash it BEFORE and AFTER, as is shown here?
