    Thank you Dennis! After being away from the ranch for 45 years I am buying a 611 acre farm/ranch and am planning on growing premium horse hay. Your tips are very helpful to me as we did almost everything by hand. I enjoy your videos. Also I have decided to buy the Kuhns Accumulator and the 10 bail grappler. you do make it look easy. I hope I can get half as good as you are with them

      Just keep practicing you will get it. It takes time.

    We had hay trailers with no rail to stack it against, and all done by hand. I remember being 15 barely weighing a hundred pounds, and trying to maneuver some alfalfa bales that were as heavy as me, and trying to get them up to my dad in the highest points in the barns. He used to give me so much crap, and it would just p--s my mother off. LOL. By the time I was 17, I could chunk those bales with relative ease, and I also never lost a load of hay off a trailer. I also used to work on a couple of custom hay crews during the summer. I certainly don't miss doing it though.

      The key is to get the bottom bales spread out as wide as you can and taper each layer in a couple inches.

    Granted prices have likely changed since that building was constructed, but does anyone know what something like that would cost... Would a Quonset be a compromise on price if losing capacity on the sides?

    Wonder if you ever take the skid steer out in the field to load hay? It's the best way for me because I load from small fields and it takes 1/2 the time of a tractor with loader.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  7 лет назад

      +chargermopar. I have but the TN95 works faster for me because of higher ground speed, also I can drive the tractor there and use it to rake or Tedd then load the hay, I have to haul the skid steer there and then haul it back.

    I like to put the tie bales in the middle for the first and last row on the trailer.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  7 лет назад

      +KHank1995. That's a good idea! I don't typically have any trouble the way I do it but I use seven straps across it and one long ways my buyer lives 3 hours away.

      ya looks like you have a good system down. when we first got that accumulator I thought i was going to hate it but once you get the hang of it I dont think there is any better way to go. besides the $100k bale baron haha

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  7 лет назад

      +KHank1995. I agree I had some trouble in the beginning learning how to stack and so fourth but now it's second nature. I looked at a bale Baron at the southern farm show it was 100,000 I was like no thank you lol

    I like it. My accumulator is 10 bale on edge tho they are all the same way but it's nice cause you can drop a bundle in between the finder wells of a car trailer

      DLH Farms I've only baled little over 400 bales never lost any then but maybe that was beginners luck lol but the guy I bought it from, it was his brother that designed the Kuhns and he said edge was the best loading on trailer. But we'll soon find out

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  7 лет назад

      +Josh Fanter. I've had good luck loading trailers with my flat 10 they have the tie bales to help hold them together, I can load 200 on a gooseneck and drive it down the road without any straps.

    I’m looking to get a new trailer this year what size wood you recommend for doing hay

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  Год назад

      It depends on what size packs your going to use but a 30ft is just right to put 4 packs on for me.

    that's a good looking setup you got for handling your loads of hay . I especially like the clean looking 785 your running, I've got 8 of the 783 and 785 skidsteer loaders that I use in my masonry business and their just smooth and dependable as can be . the newer ones I've had just didn't suit my needs . not sure how far away from me you are but if you ever wanted to sell it I'm always looking for another clean machine .

      +Johnny Sharpe. Thanks for commenting! It's nice to hear from someone else that appreciates the old new Holland skid steers. Not Sure why they changed them so much, they should have just modernized what they had because it was a good design!

      DLH Farms Good deal! I'm interested in how the grapple works for you. Major reason for me buying it. I want to build a grapple/accumulator. Look forward to a video.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  7 лет назад

      +OneCincyFarmer66. The grapple works great, I also have a simple push type accumulator that goes on the skid steer, but I don't use it much anymore.

      +DLK HAY. Ok your going to have to help me out here I'm not sure what you mean by cold mix?

    • @DLKHAY
      @DLKHAY 7 лет назад +1

      so here in the north we pack the asphalt chips and on a warm day they will bind, we call it cold mix here.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  7 лет назад

      +DLK HAY. Oh ok yeah I thought you were talking about the hay! Lol! We actually got all these grindings for really cheap! They built a new road through our area and we were helping haul the old road grindings. We also stored a lot of the grindings for the company building the road. So we ended up getting some. I'm not sure what they would actually cost. The only thing about putting them in a shed is the sun never heats them up so you can pack them good.

      DLH Farms , I'm looking into getting a 10 or 4 bale set up but not sure which one. I have a L230 New Holland that I would be using to load and unload. your loading videos are very helpful because I have been looking for videos that show this kind of setup in use. my wife and I just can't find help to have people riding wagons so Thank you for the videos you do.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  7 лет назад

      +Justin Owens. My suggestion would be to get the 10 bale like mine. One reason is it would take forever with only four bales at a Time. Second reason is that the 10 bales would stack much better on the wagons because of the tie bales. Unless your just doing 500 bales a year or something. I know it's more money up front but it will keep you from being unhappy and trading in later and spending more money. Thats my 2 cents 😀!

      @justinowens2985 7 лет назад +1

      DLH Farms thanks. does your baler have hyd top pressure? I'm looking into a bc 5070 that has top and side pressure and I have never been around them.
