  • In this reverb tutorial for beginners on Logic Pro X, I'm gonna show you how to setup and use the reverbs in Logic pro x, the right way. The two best reverbs in Logic Pro X, (Chromaverb and Space Designer reverbs) some basic reverb settings to use for vocals and drums and how to save your reverb presets. When and why to to combine reverbs, and we're going to even touch on ducking the reverb with sidechain compression. And finally, the #1 common reverb mistake that beginners make that will make your mix sound amateur. Coming up.
    Here is the link to download some of my reverb presets for Logic Chromaverb and Space Designer
    drive.google.com/file/d/1znFr...
    Download it, unzip it, open your reverb, use the LOAD button and locate the reverb. Then save it if you want it to show up in your presets menu the next time.

      So you're a jazz guy? Bravo, that's a tough dept. I did a lot of work at one time with some really awesome players (Omar Hakim, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker, most of Victor Baileys albums, and more. I miss it. Jazz (fusion) has the some of the best players in the world, and they can barely fill up a small jazz club in the city. A shame more people don't appreciate it.

    👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻 Very good quality and content, although I don‘t understand everything ( e. g. the thing with the Lexicon reverb: is that a reverb plugin that I have to buy?) as a beginner in both Logic and mixing. I have to put together hundreds of puzzle pieces (that‘s RUclips videos) to forge ahead as there is nobody far around to show me ... nevertheless my goal is to release a first single in the second half of this year, but as far as mixing is concerned, I‘m still far away from this goal ... I think I have to listen to this video again and again to fully understand it as a German speaking new subscriber to this channel.

    Thank you for this great video!! I have a question - what is the difference between choosing "Mono" versus "Mono --> Stereo" when you're setting up your reverb?

    • @SkyeLabMusicGroup
      @SkyeLabMusicGroup  5 лет назад +6

      Mono to mono, will give you a mono reverb, meaning there is no 'width' in the stereo field. This is useful when you want to isolate a sound, let's say a percussion instrument, and you want it panned at about 3 o'clock. If you pan the mono reverb at 3 oclock as well, you can more easily pinpoint the sound within the mix, but it can still be in the 'room' you set up for the reverb. Mono to Stereo is more commonly used, because if you send a mono vocal to the reverb, you want the width, which also helps with the perception of depth. Hope this helps :)

    Hey man great video🔥🔥🔥. shouldnt we set the wet to 100% when using reverb on an aux track, the space designer was set to -10... When using the compressor for the side chaining shouldn’t we switch off auto gain?? . Again great video looking forward to hearing the presets. 🔥🔥

    If I have a 4-beat audio "chunk" on a channel and I only want to apply an effect (like a reverb) on the LAST BEAT/HIT within this audio piece, can I not just use the scissors to cut that last beat/hit off from the audio piece, and then select this last cut-off piece, right-click on it, apply selection based processing, and add a reverb? (while keeping that last cut-off piece exactly where it was to begin with, and no hassle with creating busses etc etc to keep everything simple + easy?). Wouldn't that work just the same as any other method?

    Question that side gain compression to the bvg is the the Bgv aux you side to the compressor???

  • @shaner36
    @shaner36 3 года назад +2

    Do you send unity gain from bus? Or use fader on aux track to blend reverb. Is there any gain stage techniques. Awesome video

    • @SkyeLabMusicGroup
      @SkyeLabMusicGroup  3 года назад

      I usually keep the aux track fader at zero, and use the send for the amount of reverb I want. But sometimes I need to hit the reverb a little harder, so then I'll bring down the aux return. Really depends on the situation.

    Hey thanks for the great video, very helpful indeed. This is me liking, subscribing and commenting - where are the presets for the reverb? I've read the description thrice and I think I've gone blind hahahah

    Great Video! I learned a lot! Question: Do you know if there are any techniques to fundamentally change the sound of a voice, in a very basic sense? eg. a fundamental change like, change from Madonna to Mark Knoffler?

    • @SkyeLabMusicGroup
      @SkyeLabMusicGroup  4 года назад

      You can change the tone slightly by eq, and different mic modelling plugins. You can change throat length and making someone sound more or less male or female by changing formants using autotune or similar. but as of right now I don't know anything that can actually change the voice sound though I hear they are working on some artificial intelligence that can do that. And I have no doubt we'll see it in the future. Anyone else out there know any more about it? Please comment and share with us👍 Thanks for your comment. --Arty

      @@SkyeLabMusicGroup Many Thanks!! Perhaps there might be a route to do this via : Audio(analog) -> Sample set --> MIDI --> digital sample based audio vocals? If one could get hold of a sampled set of Knoffler's voice 'notes', for example?

    • @SkyeLabMusicGroup
      @SkyeLabMusicGroup  4 года назад

      @@sailingchloe2330 Then you have to get lyrics too. When we first got GPS and they were stand alone units, for a while we downloaded 'fake' celebrity voices, like Eric Cartman from Southpark, who would basically scream and curse at you if you made a wrong turn! So the basics of the technology are there. Just needs a lot more development if it's going to be applied towards singing lyrics. But then the downside is you'll be able to make anyone sound like they're saying anything. Scary too! But fun. Thanks, Arty

      @@SkyeLabMusicGroup Ah yes. of course, I completely missed that : / I guess it would have to be more of a text to speech conversion tool.... a higher order of sampling. Yes, I Agee with you, I could see a Neural Net being trained in this muti-dimensional model space. Just like Siri..

    How do you train your ear to better catch all the subtleties?? I can tell the difference in the on/offs examples in the video, but in my projects I'm not so sure, even less with the sidechain maneuver. How to decide which reverb is best for every part? Thanks a lot. GREAAAAT VIDEOO!!

    • @SkyeLabMusicGroup
      @SkyeLabMusicGroup  4 года назад +1

      Time, practice, study and patience. There is no "always use this reverb or compressor for that". The more you do it, the better you ear will develop. There are also training programs for engineers. But what I suggest, is that you watch my video on What is Sound, and I explain 21 audio terms. It's not the definition that matters, but it's understanding how sound breaks down, and how it develops. When you understand that a little better, your ear will know what to look for, because you'll understand the science behind it. EVERY good famous engineer know all that stuff like drinking water. Here's the link. It's my favorite video. ruclips.net/video/13-AmdRDipg/видео.html Let me know how it goes. Thanks, Arty

      Go over the top with your settings to A B things. This way you’ll hear the effects easier. Then back it all off to a point where it’s less noticeable. Especially with the side chain thing. Everything should be subtle. The goal being to make everything clear but blended. Think about time and space and frequencies and where each thing can have its place. It’s the little things that add up.

    great video! i have a techno track with no vocals but many instruments, do you recommend any particular instruments i can use reverb with instead of vocals?

    • @SkyeLabMusicGroup
      @SkyeLabMusicGroup  2 года назад

      It's all about layers and what's in front of what. So pads, strings, atmospheric stuff usually sits way back in the mix, so bigger reverbs on those. But everything depends on everything else, so it's really program specific, and individual taste. Just keep trying stuff until it makes you feel good and you go "yeah, that's the one" :)
