Because of sand driving, I bring the milwaukee 2 gal aircompressor, since I tested the little ones that have a 10 minute limit. They will break. So I got the high end one. And instead of pumping for an hour, I pump for 3 minute all 4 tires from 16 psi to 42 on my land rover. Love it! And I float on sand. I go anywhere
Lower the air pressure in your tires, go slow but don't stop and when you get out to the road use the air compressor you do carry (?) to pump up your tires
@@stufoo yeah but seriously anybody with a truck going off road should have a fucking 12v air pump capable of getting them at least kinda close to street PSI from sand PSI along with a basic tool kit and basic recovery gear. It's not expensive and way cheaper than calling a wrecker. The biggest 12v pump at Harbor Freight is like $70 and is quicker than the gas station pumps and fits in a laptop bag with some extra air lines and whatnot.
Here in Delmarva we have Beach tags for your vechicle. You absolutely cant drive on the beach without one of these tags. You have to have 4x4. certain AWD, a tow rope, a shovel and a couple of boards. If you get stuck and dont have the stuff. The fine is huge. The outterbanks are the same way. Every year there are tourists who show up with rental SUV's or worse the family CUV who just drive out into the sand and get stranded. They dont even air down. East Coast sand is very soft. The Park Rangers/Water Police write tickets all day. It is amazing the stupidity of people

I just came from the outter banks and the Jeep Sahara cruised right through that stuff like it was nothing. I aired down to 20 psi. I had a tow strap and shovel just in case. The Ford Raptors were really cruising.
As long as you have some pretty decent all terrain tires, and you air down like you are supposed too, you shouldn’t have any issues with getting stuck.
Saw a guy one time in Hatteras with a 2 wheel drive 1970 chevy with 5 psi in his tires and about 6 people in the bed going right through the sand. 4 wheel drives getting stuck. I knew then it's all about your tire pressure. I usually go 20psi and have no problem.

I saw a young dude and his girlfriend drive onto the sand at Corolla, NC. She was driving a Pontiac G6. She got about 25 feet and that was it. The wrecker ripped the rear bumper cover trying to pull it out. My Subaru Forester didn't have any trouble though.
That would have been cool to video... I want a Subaru just because most are all wheel drive. That is cool. I saw some Subaru suv going good in the sand yesterday.
My rear wheel drive would drive out of that. VW Daytona beach buggy. (Made in New Zealand in the early 80s. ) Must have been named after this beach. With a big heavy motor in the front your better to back out. Also keep the steering wheels as straight as possable.

Worst sand I ever went in my life was that bright white stuff around the Fl panhandle. I dont know what the deal was with it but dang it as tough to go through. One of those guys that loads up beach chairs got stuck on the beach. I told him I have a truck will get him out. What a pain it was powder.

Heavy vehicles, skinny tires....bad combo for silty sand, especially going up hill from a stop. My suburban with 35x12.50s on silt is sketchy. Even with a locker.
That's funny you know some people had enough sense to let their tires down they can walk all over that stuff within reason I used to let my rear tires down to about 12 to 14 lb and my front 18 to 20 lb people thought I had a special truck even concrete trucks are set up if you notice they have that technology from the cab your higher-end four by fours vehicles have it in the cab all them people have to do is work a little harder

Have taken it to the dunes multiple times and have even used it to pull a broken Jeep and also a broken Ram and Humvee out of the dunes at the same time. The Rams front suspension was broken digging into the sand like an anchor. But I also drop my tire pressure down to 12 psi unlike the people in these vids lol.

Besides airing down, the number one problem I see is people not turning off their traction control, rendering 4WD useless.

lowering the tire pressure is the first thing to do before driving onto the beach... also low tire profile doesnt help at all.
never use 4lo, use 4hi and keep RPM around 2500 to 3500. Don't turn steering wheel until vehicle is in motion and don't stop .
