30yrs ago me and my friends used to access Heath Town track from behind Farmfoods on Deans Rd Asda and we would walk across the bridge over Grove Street and dare each other to walk across the ledge on the dangerous side which had gaps in so you could fall through onto the road below. Then as the track joined the live lane at Long Ley we would exit it down the embankment. Those were the good old days

Really good video I enjoyed it. Its good that the likes of you are reminding old ones like myself of how things used to be and also informing the younger generation of how things were. Lots of history in the Black Country we need to keep, retain and inform for future generations. Thank you.

Your more than welcome, I strive to follow old railway 🚂🚃 lines whether modern or old. I found this line sadly not very obscure for stations but old bridges cuttings or tunnels etc are always a good find and Heath Town and Willenhall had some great relics to see. I'm glad you enjoyed it though

Very interesting. My grandad used to work at the power station and lived in Leamore

Theres a section where it ran through heath town behind the Asda and we went up the embankment to stand on the track when we discovered that the tracks are still in situ with sleepers too

highly doubt a tram will run along this line, the first reason is no one in Willenhall wants it even more so now a rail station is being built, second the line between heath town and Willenhall has the Wednesfield bypass the business park with the path beyond being single track width only due to the former Willenhall town football club taking some of the old track to build a stand in the 1970s and the care home being close both on Noose lane.
beyond that you would be taking up part of Willenhall memorial park, then onwards towards Clarks lane new industrial units have been built on the path of the old line, the old track never returned a profit and was the main reason it closed, the part from Wolverhampton goods station to Wednesfield only survived was for weekly deliveries to Ductile Steels on planetary road who had there own internal sidings and their own shunter.
the part from Bescot to what is now the retail park at Reedswood was just to service the power station with coal and remove spoil/flyash without either of those the whole line would have been lifted far sooner

love the old photos then cut the invariable ugliness of the modern thing put in its place - especially all the fencing.

I'd strongly suggest that anyone who's interested in the true history of this route should purchase The Oakwood Press Locomotion Paper number 242, "The Midland Railway Route From Wolverhampton"
