I think Ramos in X/Y was the worst gym leader. Olympia had the redeeming feature of speaking in Haiku and having a Space Gym, but oh my gosh, Ramos. He has literally no character (a criticism affecting most of the characters in X and Y), and his main achievement is that he has owned a pair of garden scissors for 30 years. Like, you've owned these scissors for so long but you still don't cut it. His gym is annoying to navigate with the ladders, it isn't even pretty like Olympia's (which is like, the only thing that saves her at this point), and when you reach him, the battle is so anti-climactic it's unreal. I would've hedged my bets and said that after all his years of owning Pokémon they'd be a little stronger and have more than 3 moves, but no. The TM he gives isn't even that useful in game. He's not even difficult to beat in the Battle Chateau either; his Victreebel has 4 different 'leaf' moves and his Gogoat, while a little better, is still incredibly easy to take out with literally any Pokémon you have. Tl;dr, Ramos is an awful Gym Leader who is completely forgettable and it chloro-phylls me with rage to think about him. Also, thank God that someone else hates Brock's anime counterpart. His main gag is basically annoying, staring at and harassing women. Sorry, that was kinda long, but my hatred for Ramos is so deep-rooted that I needed to branch out and explain where it stems from. Leaf me be
Casskingdra Ramos was easy to beat, I chose the water type starter and I thought it would be a challenge, but I was dead wrong, it only took me one try to beat Ramos so I was pretty disappointed with Ramos
His character is not developed well and that is a valid criticism of X and Y. But Ramos is a renowned gardener in the Kalos region and if you talk to a few gardener trainers, they talk of Ramos’s fame and skill. So this could’ve been fleshed out more but he does have character.
She uses Psychic. Sigilyph, Meowstic, Slowking Otherworldly Gym. Olympia always spoke in haiku, especially in the Japanese version. There are no other Psychic Gym Leaders besides Sabrina and Tate/Liza, who are tougher, especially the former in the original Red and Blue/Green.
simplyamazin4184 I know her name now, but i don't know her Type, what the inside of the gym looks like, and what city it's in. It's the one with the big-ass gemstone, right?
Oh Volkner. I love your design but Christ... My big problem with Volkner is how he is behaving when you arrive at Sunnyshore. Now I can understand the whole "there aren't any strong trainers anymore, why should I keep doing this" deal but he straight up closed the gym and hid himself away. Being a Gym Leader is your job, dude, and you should treat it as such. Imagine if I was the manager of restaurant and said "Y'know we haven't had any nice customers today. Let's close up for the day." Do you think anyone would accept that? God no. Hell, my ass would've been fired in five seconds flat. The League should have done the same to Volkner if it wasn't for the fact that he was buddies with Flint. It's the gross irresponsibility and the lack of repercussions that makes him the worst Gym Leader in my opinion.
Wulfric was the most memorable Gen 6 leader to me just because of this quote before the battle. He knows what's up. "Y'know what? Ice is both extremely hard and terribly fragile at the same time. You know what that means? Depending on which Pokémon you choose and what moves they use, I could be your most challenging opponent yet or I could be a total pushover. But that's all right. That's how it should be! Anyway, enough of my rambling! Let's get this show on the road!"
^^^^^ His feet are exposed in that outfit though so that would mean he'd get browned from the sun in every visible part of his skin I'd say his tan line is like that because he spends the majority of his time swimming
Srijan Datta Its a trend with all water based trainers recently. Marlon, XY swimmers and team aqua. Which makes sense, seeing as all these people spend a lot of time in the water and therefore in the sun.
Honestly, falkner in the original gold and silver really bothered me. First of all, he's one of those assholes who uses an under levelled evolved Pokemon (level 9 pidgeotto? Give me a break), he has no personality to speak of other than he uses his father's Pokemon (he's a gym leader! Is he so inept that he has to borrow his Pokemon?!), the TM he gives is neither relevant nor remotely useful (I know that's nitpicking, but really. A flying gym that gives out the mud slap TM) and his gym is the dullest design out of any of them. They fixed a couple of these things in the remake, but he still irritates me. At least the gym badge has a cool name
My headcanon was always that his father is dead and he's taking care of the gym and his father's pokemon in his memory. I wish they put more of the manga Falkner into the games, he was a pretty cool police officer there.
I respectfully disagree. Witney is the #1 worst gym leader. Her Milktank, her whining, her utter bs, and her Milktank. Actually, let's make Claire #2 as well. While the others may have plot or design issues, unprofessionalism/being a sore loser puts those 2 far beyond the others. Just give me my damn badge and quit being so petty.
AtrumDelorox There is a tradeable In game machop you can get before you fight her for a common pokemon (It was Onix I think) And one you had him, she was a sweep.
Okay so I get that you were projecting Whitney to be some kind of whiny popular kid at school, but honestly I think it is super duper awesome to have this really girly girl who people would usually assume would have dumb awful pokemon and have her absolutely wipe the floor with that Milktank. I think she is upset because she's not used to losing, she's obviously very proud and knows the strength of her pokemon. Also I relate a bit because I'm pretty girly but have loved pokemon my whole life which surprised a lot of people at school. It's great to show people up when they least expect it and I respect Whitney for that!
That doesn't excuse her from bawling like a baby and calling the player a meanie when losing though. Same with Claire chucking a fit. I have nothing wrong with being Girly, but given the fact that She and Claire cry and throw tantrums when loosing when they are appointed gym leaders by the league seems a bit....yeah I can see where most people come from.
Kristie Kat Sure I get that's annoying, but it's just a unique way to advance the plot. It shows variety in gym leader's personalities. I agree that it is childish and annoying and no excuse, but I only had complaints with Tamashii saying she was just like a generic popular kid who didn't really care about pokemon, her points about Whitney's immaturity are valid.
Plus I can name at least 2 kickass girly girl trainers who are pretty strong and are not whiners when it comes to loosing: Valerie from X and Y and Elesa (she's a fashion model) from Black and White and the sequels.
Kristie Kat Yeah I do agree with you, those trainers are awesome (: I just don't think Whitney deserves quite the bash she gets and I personally relate to her, this is all just opinion!
Kristie Kat I was far more offended by Whitney's crocodile tears than Claire's explosive outburst. Whitney came across as someone who got her way just due to her adorable looks (and her outright broken Miltank), and couldn't believe that anyone would brush them aside just to get what they came for (ie. the Gym Badge). Then she starts bawling and outright refuses to give you what you earned until her bruised ego feels better. There's no point to her whining; her "feewings" got hurt, and now she needs to have a good cry to get that out of her system. THEN you can have your Badge. Everything about her just felt like "me, me, me.." Claire felt more like someone who knows how powerful she is (second in mastery of Dragons to the Champion (her cousin) himself), but she earned that power due to lots of hard work and training, but has become somewhat arrogant because of it. This pride makes her unwilling to acknowledge anyone as having beaten her unless they are her "equal" (completed the Dragon Cave trial). Her sending you on this seemingly trivial errand didn't bother me too much, since it nets you an almost guaranteed new Dragon Pokemon (Dratini), plus the quest item Dragon Fang (which makes your new -Mon just that much stronger). It actually served a purpose, with her acknowledging your power and mastery once you return, actively encouraging you to take on and excel at the Pokemon League.
I know this is a personal top 10 like every other lists you did but... including gym leaders as "worst" just because you forgot about them? It's not their fault if you have bad memory. lol Anyway. Something that's awfully true now with the newer generations is how easy the gym leaders are... I mean, they're supposed to be a challenge, a test to see if you trained well during the game. Now it's just "oh yeah I got a badge... next town"
I just find it hilarious how everything said in this video about Whitney can also be applied to the anime version of Misty. (for context, look at her behavior in The Sisters of Cerulean City) Though I 100% agree on Brock. Unnecessary exposition and a running gag that stopped being funny 500 episodes ago.
***** I can definitely understand finding Brock's "constantly lovestruck/creepy" schtick aggravating, but whenever he's *NOT* doing that, he's pretty awesome. Maybe if Tracy Sketchit were a gym leader, he might have bumped Brock down to 11th.
***** she never gives any acceptable reasons. Throughout the entire video she gave the exact same reason for every gym leader on the list except numbers 10, 3, 2, and 1. "They're not memorable so I don't like them." And that's just THIS list. Her top 10 worst mega evolutions, she gave bad reasons AND horrible comparences, she compared Mega Glalie to Mega Mewtwo Y. I can accept her top 10 least favorite Pokemon though, because like her favorite Pokemon list, it was based on personal experiences.
TheGCritic All her lists are like that. If you want mega battling min max lists, youre in the wrong place. This is HER list, HER opinion. Not the universes.
I LOATHE Clair. She gives Dragonair a bad name. She thinks that being powerful is the only thing that makes you worthy of respect, and when you overpower her, she turns heel and contradicts herself immediately. Not to mention the sick burn that she got from the wise elder man, that was awesome.
Definitely agree with Olympia. Ugh, what a lame gym leader. There's almost no background or character to her, and she has such a lame gym as well :/ (I'd say that most gen 6 gym leaders kind of fall under that criteria as well).
Marcus Rossi It was extremely cool and would've been even if it wasn't 3D. Obviously you just aren't very science minded so you didn't care about the space background.
Claire should be #1, she is an adult, dragon type trainer. A dragon type! One of the strongest types that had been around, you'd think they'd have more respect and professionalism. Dragon types are supposed to be intimidating too, but she ends up whining in the end of the battle and it's a pitiful slap in the face towards her powerful, strong willed Pokémon and you as well.
I never really liked Whitney that much mainly because of that stupid miltank but also because of her crying when she loses that just doesn't make sense to me you shouldn't cry just because you lose
Jrey1803 You know, playing devil's advocate here.... The player character isn't technically much better. Fainting when they lose. .... That being said, Whitney IS worse though, because she's supposed to be a professional. And that behavior in any real life equivalent of a Pokemon Gym would get her fired in a heartbeat.
Personally Wulfric was my favorite gym leader in X & Y. Out of all the gym leaders he was given the most personality, having a philosophy, some life lessons, a cool dialogue before and after battle in the Battle Chateau, and even a part in the story outside of his gym, albeit a small part. He also uses one of my favorite gen 6 Pokémon on his team as his main: Avalugg.
What? Opinion I know, but you named some of the best gym leaders on this list. Brock-He's a bro. Winona-Dragon Dance/Cotton Guard Altaria makes her the only legitimately good Flying type gym leader and one of the strongest in the game. Whitney-THE LEGEND HERSELF!!! Remember how normal types are not held in high regard? Whitney, the first normal type gym leader, comes in and she wrecked lives. Ruined childhoods aside, that Miltank is respect in my book.
And i remeber Korrina, Valarie, Olympia, Clemont, Wulfric, Viola, Grant and Ramos as well as Siebold, Malva and Diantha so dont say all the bosses in the kalos region were not as memorable as past generations i mean i had to look up gen 4 cos i couldnt remeber anybody but fantina
I love platinum and everything about it I just know people don’t like it and oh well but the only thing I hear is people say it’s so slow and all I can say is just get platinum but I can see why she hates them...kind of. I mean I don’t know the 3rd-7th gym leaders from gen 1 cause I got really bored
"4th genner"? Maybe you shouldn't be labeling this person just because they happen to like the Gen 4 gym leaders and you don't. You literally know nothing else about them.
XY Leaders had little character development, like Valerie and Olympia, but Wulfric had some, which showed he really cared for the abandoned Pokemon in the Village and he admitted he might be a pushover (which he would usually have been). I actually found him quite memorable.
Ah yes grabbing a woman's hand is sexually harassing if anything, brock is the victim and it's surprising that he hasn't died from all those poison jabs.
Ugh Marlon... it was just so out of place. If he had been a fifth or sixth gym leader it wouldn't have been that bad, but seriously... Tamashii nailed it when she explained that it was just an annoying pit-stop in the middle of a story that seemed so out of place. Honestly though, my #1 spot would probably be Byron. Mainly just because I always forget about him and his typing.
Hayden Fisher For those who played the original DP, Volkner was challenging because his team was not all Electric, even having Octillery to counter Ground. That being said, this did show Sinnoh's severe lack of Electric types (same issue with Elite Four Flint's Fire Type), and thus was fixed in Platinum.
Tamashii, from what I read about Marlon, his easygoing personality and "my pace" attitude about Team Plasma pretty much lampshades how every single Pokémon villain team having the courtesy to let the player finish his or her errands before the plot relevant stuff happens. It's actually pretty funny if you think about this. I'm pretty sure that at least one person has put off saving the Pokémon world because there are so many things to explore in a given region. If you read between the lines more, it is actually hypocritical (and funny on realization) how one criticizes others for doing something even while doing the same thing.
>6,7 and 8 are rapid fire badges wtf? Between 6 and 7 is the whole go to the three lakes thing and between 7 and 8 the whole galactic hq + palkia/dialga
I'm sorry, Olympia's gym not being memorable? What? That was one of the best uses of the 3ds I think I've seen. I know you're entitled to your opinion, but the gym opening up into a galaxy has to be one of the most memorable parts of the game to me.
Fantina, that one French woman in gen 4. Boring battle, her hair is crazy even by Pokemon standards, and what the hell is a french woman doing in Hokkaido anyway?!
Satoshi Matrix Tell that to Valerie from Johto in Kalos and Lt. Surge from America in Kanto. ESPECIALLY the latter. In non-English versions, Fantina is from an English-speaking country. Crazy hair? This is a series with hair in every color and impossibly cool hairstyles, so why complain?
I absolutely DESPISE Fantina. After about a month of trying to figure out how to get to gym 3, a glitch happened. Fantina came back and I was forced to beat her before getting what was supposed to be my 3rd and 4th badges. I took over 20 attempts to beat her. By the time I beat her I had no money and a level 56 Roselia. Thank you for that Fantina. And it appeared in the 5th badge slot. Since I hate it when things happen in the wrong order, this annoyed me SO bad.
I don't really understand why people like Clair and Whitney receive so much hate. They both felt very real to me. They realize their relentlessness and apologize. Just because they don't give you a badge right off the bat and are sore about their loss doesn't make them any less of a character. In fact, I think it gives them a more realistic persona. Clair was badass and her tsundere personality made it all the more worthwhile earning her badge. I especially liked when she scolds the trainer, telling them that they better not lose to the league. It almost gives me a sense that she's rooting for us, even if it is just to prevent her from looking bad. And in crystal, they improved the trip into the dragons den. The trainer has to show that they are kind to their Pokemon and have a level head before they can receive the badge. Clair also apologizes for her behavior iirc, which shows that she's growing as a character. I guess you either have to love or hate these two.
"...And sexually harass women for 600 episodes" Hahaha, really? Is being attracted to women and flirting with them what counts as sexual harassment now a days?
***** The most Brock did was hold those women's hands. It's not like he was groping them or anything. But I guess even holding someone's hand is sexual harassment now according to feminists
If you don't want your hands touched, then it can be highly uncomfortable. Aren't YOU feminists? Then you don't believe in equality? 'cause then y'all should be revising that.
Oh come on guys. Stop whining over a kid's show. It's another world. Nobody cares if they are poked by a little kid. Stop going so deep into Brock's character.
He holds their hands without permission and makes continued advances where they're clearly unwanted, to the point where he often has to be physically struck or dragged away by his friends to snap out of it. And he does it EVERY TIME a female character is introduced. So yeah, basically.
I partly agree.the whole gag of brock hitting on every woman he finds pretty looking is dumb and annoying but I don't think he's sexually harassing them or was tamashi hiroka just saying that to be cynical.
Hearing your reasons for why you don't care for Whitney reminded me a lot of your Draw My Life video. Not sure if it stemmed from any of that, but it came to mind. The Brock impression was uh... yeah. I was pretty impressed with your reasoning for your #1 Least Favorite Gym Leader. It made a lot of sense. And yeah, I don't think Brock should be on this list because of his anime portrayal, but whatever.
DASandwichGuy They were like; Ok let's make a new part to Unova, yeah let's do that! And to draw out the time, let's add a random city and a random Gym (Leader).
Marlon pissed me off as well mainly due to the fact that I thought he was black and I was happy for more diverse race characters then I realized he just had a tan so I was like really why couldn't they just make him another race
Personally I think Olympia's Gym is the most interesting out of all the gyms in Kalos, and I really like Wulfric's greeting speech before you face him. LOL You and JWittz have completely opposing views on Clair. Remember when you said her Clefairy was a bigger threat? At least you can understand the view of the public.
My goodness, there's a lot of different opinions here! I disagree with a lot of the gym leaders you picked - I didn't find Byron or Volkner "not memorable" at all, for example. They're actually probably my 2 favorite Sinnoh gym leaders.
I am so with you - Black/White was my favourite game I've ever played, and going into B2/W2 I was so excited from Cheren, N and Bianca and then all those amazing gym leaders who to me felt like they were the first to actually acknowledge me as a person who was fighting alongside them against Plasma, and whom N had singled out as his equal - but B2/W2, that whole earlier storyline felt ignored and sidelined, and Hugh was just SO ANNOYING! Marlon had no reason to even be there at all.
Giovanni from Yellow, simply because he leads with a Dugtrio that only knows/uses Fissure with unlimited PP. Due to the flawed mechanics of 1HKO moves in Gen 1, where their accuracy is based on the Speed stat, this is just cheap, and stupid in a mandatory battle. Remember there weren't such things like Sturdy, Levitation, and Focus Sash back then, so your only defense was Flying-types, or something faster than Dugtrio (not many back then).
I like how half the gym leaders were put here because of poor pacing and it also causes the video itself to be poorly paced. I mean it feels like forever when Tamashii talks about Brock and Winona and then it's just rapid fire Gym Leader after Gym Leader and I always forget what she said about them. She forgot some things about some Gym Leaders and then didn't mention anything about others so half of the Top 10 is done in like a minute. And it's not because it's the first time I'm watching it, this is the 5th time and it feels faster now than ever before.
Oh you FORGOT Volkner? He's a great character, a Gym leader who's lost his edge! Byron's foreshadowed by Roark, which I thought was cool. How do you forget so much?
Whitney is easily my least favorite gym leader. No other gym leader in all of Pokemon has had to delay giving me my well-earned badge (and yeah, go against her without a fighting type and it's damn well earned) on account of being a sore loser. Except Claire apparently, but I don't remember her being such a problem. Probably because Whitney was such a little bitch that no other temper tantrum could top hers in my mind. Her character can basically be summed up as "Pokemon is only fun if I win, and you should totally let me win because I'm a girl." Anyhow, your rant about Marlon brings up something that has long bothered me about Pokemon games. Their linearity, and attempts at forcing morals down our throats while not giving us any options to do anything other than the developer's moral choices. Why can't I join Team Rocket? Why does the Rocket Recruiter go out of his way to explain that they're the evil antagonists, when in reality he would be trying to sell it as the chance to make some decent money, catch rare Pokemon, and get a snazzy uniform? Why can't I join Team Plasma? Forcing sentient creatures to battle to near death for our own amusement just so they can have a chance at evolving might seem wrong to some people. Hell, one time I let a cousin start his own adventure on my Blue cartridge and he refused to fight anything. He even threw the rival fight because he was that opposed to violence. Such a person could easily relate to Plasma's message of liberating our animal gladiators.
Pokemon always had great success with young children ever since the 90s so they could easily get away with linear storylines and unbalanced mechanics. After that though they strived to fix both of these problems. I haven't played gen 6 or 7 but as much as I can understand from reviews the newer games don't attempt to challenge the player, instead it tried to make the player think that what he is being forced to do is the roght thing.
If you want to beat Whitney than use choose Chickorita and evolve it into Bayleef. it's pretty bulky, has both synthesis, and poison powder meaning you can fight healing fire with healing fire.
FINALLY, somebody else who agrees with me about Brock. I was REALLY grateful that they permanently changed him out for Cilan in the Unova arc. Oh man, you don't like Byron or Volkner? Or at least, found them unmemorable? I thought that they were the most interesting Gym Leaders in the game besides Fantina. I thought it was cool that Byron and Roark were related and I loved the subplot about getting Volkner back into being excited for battles. Candice is more understandable~ xP Ah man, Wulfric too? I personally found Valerie to be the least memorable of the new Gym Leaders. Her Gym is literally Sabrina's gym but much easier and fluffier and she does...nothing of note. And she's supposed to be the Gym Leader of the new type! I think that's perhaps the greatest offense she has. xD
I know Marlon is placed badly but I do like his character hes just a laid back surfer who goes with the flow. I also liked when he jumped out of the gym when you beat him I found that kinda funny.
I actually liked Volkner. His whole demeanor. How he's just bored of his current life and competition though being by the beach in the sunniest city in the entire region; ready to just up and leave to go challenge the elite 4. Proving him wrong and not ready was an fruitful experience before you took the road to challenge them in his place. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually made him an elite 4 member in the inevitable remake. He also makes for great cool and mellow contrast with his hot-headed friend Flint. As far as Gym Leaders I'm not fond of, I'd say: Whitney(need I say more?) ,the trio from BW they don't make great Gym Leaders, Elesa for not being as fabulous or stunning as Dahlia, Wallace, Juan, Fantina. Brawly, his Gym is in the most obscure location of the region which seems like a 'Gym on a whim' that you'll won't be revisiting more at all. As far as forgetful Gym Leaders I could throw Chuck from Gen 2 in the mix.
I actually like Marlon, but that's cause he was so different than all of the other Unova Gym Leaders. I actually thought his non-sensical ways fit in with the way he was suddenly just thrown in as a Gym Leader, as he is the only Gym Leader who wasn't involved with Team Plasma the first time around - so it made sense for him to not be that concerned and be quite neutral.
Excuse me, but how is Volkner forgettable? He's literally the only gym leader prior to gen 5 with a story arc. He's best friends with one of the elite four members and you even have a really cool double battle with them in the post game. I can understand Byron and Candice (even though she's bae) but Volkner? Tamashii, i know you don't like gen4 but c'mon...
How I am with marlon:ok so he has a carracosta and I have soperier (so sorry if I misspelled) this is gonna go good! We're both on our last Pokémon but ok he'll never beat me! Carrocosta used scald. You are out of Pokémon you paid 4,000 dollars and blacked out! Me: FREAKING HELL!
Brock: From a male standpoint i always thought he was just super ghoofy even for a mentor. But i guess i do understand why he could be annoying for a woman to watch. Winona: Was never really a fan of flying type gym leaders. Falkner was alright for a starting gym which i think would have fit better for gen 3 Still havent played X or Y yet. Didnt mind the side quests the female gym leaders wanted you to do in Gen 2. Still have to play BW2 Gotta finish Moon before i get to X,Y or BW2
I adore both Candice, Winona, Volkiner, Olympia, and BROCK!!! They stand out very much and are very unique!! Although I agree with you everyone has their own opinions and favorites so I understand! ^^
When you said Brock was useless, I assume you meant to the story. Because to Ash, he was anything but. Brock made the food, that's useful. But to the story, he was like adding water to water. It didn't hurt, but It didn't make it better.
I respect your opinion but this list is insane, brock is awesome and he add the funny aspect to the pokemon group, as a gym leader he was a badass and took shit serious and to the next level to where pikachu need a jolt in the cheeks to win, not to mention onix was a beast. Winona is the diva of the air you throwing her in there just because she don't fit with hoenn is obscure. I think it was unfair to put claire in but again this is your opinion. I can't say no more but smh.
I think it's a bit unfair to dislike Brock because of douchebags in real life. Brock is kind, caring, passionate and smart. Yeah, he pursues ladies a lot, but as far as I remember doesn't pester them if they're not interested. And he's certainly not entitled- he always tries to earn their affection. Calling him a sexual harasser is just wrong.
My opinion tends to boil down to the idea that there are no bad gym leaders, only forgettable ones. So with that in mind I would argue that I found Roark and Jasmin to be the most forgettable gym leaders personally. With Roark being to similar to Brock and the third in a long line of early Rock gym leaders, and Janine struggling to stand out in my mind due to her being overshadowed by Koga.
one of my least favorite gym leaders is falkner... I like flying types but I have to say this: WHAT STUPID GYM LEADER DOESN'T EVEN HAVE HIS OWN POKEMON!!! and how did he get accepted with his dad's pokemon
While I don't nessesarily hate Brock, I kinda agree. Brock's girl obsession shtick was funny for a short while but the writers didn't know when enough was enough. By Johto Journeys, that's all he really does. He spots a hot girl, tries to wife her, and gets dragged away by a companion. That's it. He could've benefited from being given more depth.
Hm... Why do I never agree with your anti lists? I respect it though, but this is why I disagree with a lot of them XD 10. Disagree... I smell a little too much modern feminism here.... If Brock was girl and Jenny or Joy a man, would it still be annoying? Everbody knows a guy AND girl like Brock. Of course you feel akward when someone flirts like that... but hey it's meant to be relate able. 9. Winona... I can see your point, but if you look at Tate and Liza you could say they were also out of place. 8.7.6 Volkner isn't forget able in my opinion. He has an awesome design and awesome pokes. I can see why the others are. 5.4. Again Olympia wasn't forget able. Look at her awesome gym :O 3. Whitney is a whiny bitch, but I like Clair. I think refusing to give the badge gave her more character. She is also related to Lance and not a stereotype cute innocent girly gymleader. 2. Jup she is a whiny bitch. 1. Agreed! lack of story and he doesn't seem interesting to me....
Running up to EVERY attractive stranger you meet, forcefully taking their hand, and continuously professing your, clearly unwanted, undying love is not flirting, especially since the only things that seem to make him stop are being physically struck, or dragged away by his friends.
Brock himself may SEEM pretty harmless, especially since you get to know him fairly well, but there's so many more men than women that act in ways that are not only similar but far, far more aggressive/harmful. Girls don't usually catcall and make sexualizing wisecracks to men walking by on the street, girls don't chase men to their cars and try to destroy them after they act like Brock and then get turned down, and girls don't assault men in public spaces after acting like Brock with the excuse that the guy was "leading them on". Brock may never do any of those things himself, but it's pretty understandable to be unsettled by such a direct reminder of real men who do, no?
I totally agree with your list and appreciate that you were honest with your picks too. Brock's shtick did get very old, and the only change they made to the running gag was changing who dragged him away. I agree with the picks from Sinnoh. Even though I only played Platinum, I still felt that a lot of the gym leaders were forgettable, especially Candice. I hated the long and painful drudge through the snow leading up to Snowpoint City and how annoying the gym puzzle was. The battle was super easy. When I battled here, I had a Gallade, Lucario, and Infernape and sweeped her team. I remember the path up to the gym leader more than the actual battle against her. Marlon is an odd character. I agree with your points. His character design is so distracting with those absurd tan lines. Maybe it was a play on the white and black motif? Hehe! Kidding. Though in my battle with him, it seemed the computer always gave his Jellicent a stat boost from Ominous Wind, which only has a 10% chance of happening. I had a Jellicent in my battle against him, and my luck wasn't that good. Pokemon AI, right?
Hmm... I don't like Tate and Liza. They're only there because double battles were the newest thing and if you had a strong Pokemon with Surf, they were a cakewalk. I didn't like any of the GL's from D&P with the exception of Crasher Wake because that dude freakin ' awesome. But... Then there's Whitney. Whitney sucks on every conceivable level.
The worst Gym Leaders are from Kalos. I can't even remember their names. And it's so sad they spent time to develope the backgrounds for their battles when they only show up for one minute, 'cause that's how easy they are. O yea, and the battle music sucks.
How can you hate someone who "uses a frying pan as a drying pan"?
+1ard He uses his frying pan as a drying pan, your argument is invalid.
***** Never heard of it. What is a detailed explanation of your opinion in response to another opinion expressed through humor?
Shai'tan Father of Lies A waste of time.
That and "She can violate my rights" are his most famous phrases.
***** these doughnuts are great. Jelly filled are my favourite. Nothing beats a jelly filled doughnut.
Leaf me be
Casskingdra your pun game is impressive.
Casskingdra Ramos was easy to beat, I chose the water type starter and I thought it would be a challenge, but I was dead wrong, it only took me one try to beat Ramos so I was pretty disappointed with Ramos
I though that Ramos was like a steel gym man I need to replay X and Y or maybe it’s good not to like how I’m never playing gen 1 cause it’s boring
His character is not developed well and that is a valid criticism of X and Y. But Ramos is a renowned gardener in the Kalos region and if you talk to a few gardener trainers, they talk of Ramos’s fame and skill. So this could’ve been fleshed out more but he does have character.
I find it funny that you actually remembered Olympia's name and forgot the inside of her gym. To me, she's "That weird lady with the sick gym"
Ikr it makes getting thru Sabrina's gym easy.
simplyamazin4184 I actually forgot what type the gym was, along with the gym leader and gym location. :/
She uses Psychic.
Sigilyph, Meowstic, Slowking
Otherworldly Gym.
I only remembered (before watching this video) Viola, Korrina, and Valerie.
"Hi I am Brock and I can't handle my hormones". I am dying of laughter right now. Oh my god
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED MARLONS FEET ARE WHITE?!?
^^^^^
His feet are exposed in that outfit though so that would mean he'd get browned from the sun in every visible part of his skin
I'd say his tan line is like that because he spends the majority of his time swimming
I never noticed that in the game. I thought he was just supposed to be latino >_>
ss2100100 He's just really tanned
Srijan Datta Its a trend with all water based trainers recently. Marlon, XY swimmers and team aqua. Which makes sense, seeing as all these people spend a lot of time in the water and therefore in the sun.
MERMAN CPNFIRMED
FlamingMarshmallow I never thought about him that way o.o But you have a point
***** He's a damn gym leader. It's like a student that has their parents do all their homework. It's pathetic.
My headcanon was always that his father is dead and he's taking care of the gym and his father's pokemon in his memory. I wish they put more of the manga Falkner into the games, he was a pretty cool police officer there.
It would be better if he gave something flying related like Fly or Drill Peck.
Yeah he is way underleveled . I just wonder w h y he doesn't have a hoothoot be is a gen 2 gym leader.
I just noticed that Marlon skin color on his upper body is a sun tan. Look at his feet. This character is white
The Milktank is not that hard
KidSnivy69 Neither is your nostalgia. I never said I was being objective lol
AtrumDelorox
I never said anything about nostalgia
(but sinse you brought it up first Generation 2, favorite Generation a tie for 3 and 4)
AtrumDelorox There is a tradeable In game machop you can get before you fight her for a common pokemon (It was Onix I think) And one you had him, she was a sweep.
TheLastRaven6 The Machop is a girl. This helps because she is unaffected by always-female Miltank's Attract.
Everything about her just felt like "me, me, me.."
Claire felt more like someone who knows how powerful she is (second in mastery of Dragons to the Champion (her cousin) himself), but she earned that power due to lots of hard work and training, but has become somewhat arrogant because of it.
I know this list consists of your opinions and all, but....BROCK IS A FUCKING LEGEND!
Just replace Brock with Ramos.
Like Wilt Chamberlain legend! Lol
Alexander Johnsson i cant agree with you more this list is insane
Overreact much?
I think brock got better in the gen 2 games
No.9 , no forgiveness :'(
Winona for life
Never forget never forgive ;(
She did said it was get own opinion, no forgiveness is overreacting
Winona is my favorite gym leader i was sad
Winona is the only person I have ever had problems with, so she's definitely memorable for me
***** In my head canon, she is a Hoenn Elite Four member replacing Drake (he retired) by the time of Unova Saga 1.
TamashiiHiroka - "#10 Brock"
Me - "This going off to a good start" (sarcasm)
Fabian T Giovanni is the thumbnail....that's when I said what you said. He has the best story and he's tough.
I know this is a personal top 10 like every other lists you did but... including gym leaders as "worst" just because you forgot about them? It's not their fault if you have bad memory. lol
Anyway. Something that's awfully true now with the newer generations is how easy the gym leaders are... I mean, they're supposed to be a challenge, a test to see if you trained well during the game. Now it's just "oh yeah I got a badge... next town"
kazukikun Hey look, its a gym leader. 10 seconds later. Alright got the badge
***** What game you playing? It takes 10 seconds for the battle to start.
***** No, really?
kazukikun Turn off Exp Share. Then X/Y is as much of a challenge as about R/S/E
Hayden Fisher Exactly. Just how dumb can the fan DUMB get? The option is there.
I just find it hilarious how everything said in this video about Whitney can also be applied to the anime version of Misty. (for context, look at her behavior in The Sisters of Cerulean City)
Though I 100% agree on Brock. Unnecessary exposition and a running gag that stopped being funny 500 episodes ago.
Good GOD I just realised that Marlon is just REALLY tanned well... shit
Too tanned.
your reasons for not liking brock is everyone else's reason they do like him. also you're calling him useless? he cooks for the group
***** He's also a part-time medic.
And can drivve every vehicle known to man
Hayden Fisher And spawns hilarious memes like the infamous "Drying Pan."
Yeah useless was just wrong he did a lot for the group
***** I can definitely understand finding Brock's "constantly lovestruck/creepy" schtick aggravating, but whenever he's *NOT* doing that, he's pretty awesome.
Maybe if Tracy Sketchit were a gym leader, he might have bumped Brock down to 11th.
Why are all of Tamashii's worst lists irritating? I know she can do good lists, but she can not do a worst list to save her life.
TheGCritic How so?
***** she never gives any acceptable reasons. Throughout the entire video she gave the exact same reason for every gym leader on the list except numbers 10, 3, 2, and 1. "They're not memorable so I don't like them." And that's just THIS list. Her top 10 worst mega evolutions, she gave bad reasons AND horrible comparences, she compared Mega Glalie to Mega Mewtwo Y. I can accept her top 10 least favorite Pokemon though, because like her favorite Pokemon list, it was based on personal experiences.
TheGCritic You do realize she's not aiming to make an objective list, yes?
TheGCritic All her lists are like that. If you want mega battling min max lists, youre in the wrong place. This is HER list, HER opinion. Not the universes.
TheGCritic Oh, and don't forget that the Sinnoh starters were too masculine and tough, but Mega Swampert was cuddly.
The gym leaders on Hoenn look like every day life, and then I look at Brawly's hair ;)
My dude looks like he either got electrified or used too much hair gel
not to mention his weird sock-shoes
Your voice recording sounds like you were talking through a cardboard tube. o_o
***** Most likely using the wrong mic.
I LOATHE Clair. She gives Dragonair a bad name. She thinks that being powerful is the only thing that makes you worthy of respect, and when you overpower her, she turns heel and contradicts herself immediately. Not to mention the sick burn that she got from the wise elder man, that was awesome.
WingerB17 she is also an old lady wearing some cheesy outfit that likes yelling at kids and crushing their dreams
Definitely agree with Olympia. Ugh, what a lame gym leader. There's almost no background or character to her, and she has such a lame gym as well :/ (I'd say that most gen 6 gym leaders kind of fall under that criteria as well).
Mr Buddy LAME GYM??LAME GYM????
Mr Buddy Which sucks because she had such a cool looking gym.
Gloria He Besides "whoa dude its 3D" there wasn't really anything to it..
Marcus Rossi It was extremely cool and would've been even if it wasn't 3D.
Obviously you just aren't very science minded so you didn't care about the space background.
She had one if not the coolesi gym in the game
Claire should be #1, she is an adult, dragon type trainer. A dragon type! One of the strongest types that had been around, you'd think they'd have more respect and professionalism. Dragon types are supposed to be intimidating too, but she ends up whining in the end of the battle and it's a pitiful slap in the face towards her powerful, strong willed Pokémon and you as well.
I never really liked Whitney that much mainly because of that stupid miltank but also because of her crying when she loses that just doesn't make sense to me you shouldn't cry just because you lose
***** or they didn't pick Chikorita, who's the best choice against Miltank.
Fitting that Whitney's Miltank has the ability Scrappy.
She wasn't that bad
KidSnivy69 Finally, another person who didn't think Whitney was that hard!
Whoa whoa whoa. Her name's WINONA?
I've been calling her Winoa for years!
The X and Y gym leaders were not memorable at all. Maybe in Z version, they will have some personality.
pr44 Shhhh! Shhh! Shhh! Let's not talk about that now... maybe in Gen 9-10?
pr44 The only ones I remember are Korrina and Clemont.
***** Valaries gym that is just a ginormas dolls hous yeah thats the one
pr44 Agreed, i want Korrina to become a more main character.
Weirdest thing about Marlon for me. Is that his feet are white so it's probably just that he has a really huge tan.
Heh, when it came to number one... I was like "Huh, I didn't even remember that that guy existed".
I'm seeing a little Gen 4 bias here
She's been very open about Gen 4 being her least favorite in the entire series, since she started making RUclips videos. Not sure how you missed that.
I love platinum and everything about it I just know people don’t like it and oh well but the only thing I hear is people say it’s so slow and all I can say is just get platinum but I can see why she hates them...kind of. I mean I don’t know the 3rd-7th gym leaders from gen 1 cause I got really bored
I had to stop watching after you said the sinnoh gyms were forgettable sorry
Let's play spot the 4th genner!
Z31n0x Is it....ZombiePhoenix07? (But seriously, that was my first PokeGame too, so I guess I'm the Foorgunner too?)
Well, gen 4 WAS the best generation imo.
Gen 3+ gen 4> gen 2 > gen 1> gen 5. I can't judge over gen 6 because I didn't play it
"4th genner"? Maybe you shouldn't be labeling this person just because they happen to like the Gen 4 gym leaders and you don't. You literally know nothing else about them.
XY Leaders had little character development, like Valerie and Olympia, but Wulfric had some, which showed he really cared for the abandoned Pokemon in the Village and he admitted he might be a pushover (which he would usually have been). I actually found him quite memorable.
Ah yes grabbing a woman's hand is sexually harassing
if anything, brock is the victim and it's surprising that he hasn't died from all those poison jabs.
xyzLinkXZeldaxyz yeah how *is* Brock still alive? XD
I'm surprised he survived from all those double slaps and double kicks lol
He must have built up an immunity. I mean how many diseases does that dude have at this point? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Exactly! He could've switched places with Clay or Drayden and it would've been a better fit
Brock isn't sexually harassing anyone he just wants a date. He may not act that great to other but it isn't SEXUAL harassment.
Volkner was awesome. I have nothing left to say.
It's her opinion, move on
Harm Verbeek Volkner was an emo crybaby. He looks like a character from Naruto and that really is all he has going for him
Hayden Fisher For those who played the original DP, Volkner was challenging because his team was not all Electric, even having Octillery to counter Ground. That being said, this did show Sinnoh's severe lack of Electric types (same issue with Elite Four Flint's Fire Type), and thus was fixed in Platinum.
sakuraslicer19 Hm, he never was that challenging to me because i raised a balanced team all the time (and i picked piplup)
I love his design, and for me he was pretty challenging.
Your vids are very fun to watch :D
Ikr
What ? 12h between 3rd and 4th badges in Diamond Pearl then you get every badge too quickly ?
...
Have we played the same games ? :0
Yew she was probably trying to tweak to get a shaymin
Winona: The Gym Leader who practically destroyed me, and I've hated since.
>6,7 and 8 are rapid fire badges
wtf? Between 6 and 7 is the whole go to the three lakes thing and between 7 and 8 the whole galactic hq + palkia/dialga
I'm sorry, Olympia's gym not being memorable? What? That was one of the best uses of the 3ds I think I've seen. I know you're entitled to your opinion, but the gym opening up into a galaxy has to be one of the most memorable parts of the game to me.
Well it's nice to know that you don't hate the Boss!
Maybe we'll even invite you to the Zubat Festival this year!
Brock sexual harassment? What?
***** If you follow them and physically touch them when they're explicitly not interested, yes. It is sexual harassment, always have and always will.
Bella Delacour Did Brock ever touch these women? I haven't watched the anime in a while so can you refresh my memory please?
***** The most Brock did was hold those women's hands. It's not like he was groping them or anything. But I guess even holding someone's hand is sexual harassment now according to feminists
If you don't want your hands touched, then it can be highly uncomfortable. Aren't YOU feminists? Then you don't believe in equality? 'cause then y'all should be revising that.
Oh come on guys. Stop whining over a kid's show. It's another world. Nobody cares if they are poked by a little kid. Stop going so deep into Brock's character.
I only clicked because you put Giovanni in the thumbnail and that was enough to make me think you're crazy. You proved me wrong. :P
This is a good video but do you seriously equate hitting on a girl as sexual harassment?
He holds their hands without permission and makes continued advances where they're clearly unwanted, to the point where he often has to be physically struck or dragged away by his friends to snap out of it. And he does it EVERY TIME a female character is introduced. So yeah, basically.
I partly agree.the whole gag of brock hitting on every woman he finds pretty looking is dumb and annoying but I don't think he's sexually harassing them or was tamashi hiroka just saying that to be cynical.
Glad I'm not the only one who hated Clair...
Marlon was so unnecessary, uh! B&W were my favorite games, but Marlon was totally not needed.
DASandwichGuy They were like; Ok let's make a new part to Unova, yeah let's do that! And to draw out the time, let's add a random city and a random Gym (Leader).
So a couple of years on what is your take on the new Pokemon I choose you film? I haven't seen it yet but hey no Brock.
You use that picture of Ash looking at the computer ALL THE TIME!
GaroLeader Pls file your complaints with my editor. Alex seems to really like that picture :P
Ha sorry, were still friends I hope :D
TamashiiHiroka it's just so versatile
I hate uninteresting and unmemorable Gym leaders. I can't even remember who they are unless someone reminds me.
Wait wait wait... Did she just say Brock sexually harass women?
Giovanni from Yellow, simply because he leads with a Dugtrio that only knows/uses Fissure with unlimited PP.
Due to the flawed mechanics of 1HKO moves in Gen 1, where their accuracy is based on the Speed stat, this is just cheap, and stupid in a mandatory battle.
Remember there weren't such things like Sturdy, Levitation, and Focus Sash back then, so your only defense was Flying-types, or something faster than Dugtrio (not many back then).
;~; but, but! Sinnoh was amazing! lol, Its your opinion and I respect that. :D
Norman because he spends all his life two towns away from his family and is a terrible father.
Jim Traianos
*facepalms*
Oh the irony
Her character can basically be summed up as "Pokemon is only fun if I win, and you should totally let me win because I'm a girl."
Anyhow, your rant about Marlon brings up something that has long bothered me about Pokemon games.
Kulrig Alestout i couldnt agree more
Pokemon always had great success with young children ever since the 90s so they could easily get away with linear storylines and unbalanced mechanics.
Paul Winston or just have 5k on you and get thunder at the mall for Mareep works every time and I always have a female feraligator help
Candice is more understandable~ xP
Ah man, Wulfric too?
Brock is understandable. Winono should have been in Sinnoh in m opionon. Ok wut im saying is I completely agree w/your list. Gr8 job Tamashi! :)
Excuse me, but how is Volkner forgettable? He's literally the only gym leader prior to gen 5 with a story arc. He's best friends with one of the elite four members and you even have a really cool double battle with them in the post game. I can understand Byron and Candice (even though she's bae) but Volkner? Tamashii, i know you don't like gen4 but c'mon...
i forgot marlon existed .....
Tamashii I love you! keep doing the awesome things you do : D
the only ones i disagree with are winona and brock
She said she did expect people to agree, so why comnent?
KidSnivy69 Why not?
She said she DIDN'T expect people to agree
"opposite of last list" seems to be a running theme.
I wonder when two in a row will happen...
Brock:
From a male standpoint i always thought he was just super ghoofy even for a mentor.
But i guess i do understand why he could be annoying for a woman to watch.
Winona:
Was never really a fan of flying type gym leaders.
Falkner was alright for a starting gym which i think would have fit better for gen 3
Still havent played X or Y yet.
Didnt mind the side quests the female gym leaders wanted you to do in Gen 2.
Still have to play BW2
Gotta finish Moon before i get to X,Y or BW2
She said you didn't have to agree, why explain your disagreements?
cause i had to say something, and also i just had to throw my opinion out as well.
Seems pointless
I love your videos tamashii, keep up the good work
I think it's a bit unfair to dislike Brock because of douchebags in real life.
I like Brock. I found it quite sad when left in the anime
Hi Tamashi! I'm a new new fan of yours and i hope to see more of your future videos, enjoyed lots of what i've already seen.
one of my least favorite gym leaders is falkner... I like flying types but I have to say this: WHAT STUPID GYM LEADER DOESN'T EVEN HAVE HIS OWN POKEMON!!! and how did he get accepted with his dad's pokemon
Have you ever thought that he was using his dads because he didn't have a pokemon weak enough for the player to fight
And he didn't use his dads, he used his own
While I don't nessesarily hate Brock, I kinda agree. Brock's girl obsession shtick was funny for a short while but the writers didn't know when enough was enough. By Johto Journeys, that's all he really does. He spots a hot girl, tries to wife her, and gets dragged away by a companion. That's it. He could've benefited from being given more depth.
Volkner coolest gymleader ever!!!
"She's like, so totally annoying" HAHAHAHA THAT WAS FUNNY HOW YOU SAID THAT
Hm... Why do I never agree with your anti lists? I respect it though, but this is why I disagree with a lot of them XD
Look at her awesome gym :O
I forgot every single gym leader in Kalos except for Korrina
Xavier? I think?
Cilan Steele I think it was Calem. Xavier was his beta name, just like Yvonne for Serena.
Oh yeah. Calem
Cilan Steele *calem
Hey I'm not the one that spelled it that way
The first time
Terrible list. And didnt really give a good reason why you didnt like them "she made you do something more" "kinda forgettable"
The worst Gym Leaders are from Kalos. I can't even remember their names. And it's so sad they spent time to develope the backgrounds for their battles when they only show up for one minute, 'cause that's how easy they are. O yea, and the battle music sucks.
