  • I am just so glad I bought the Guinea Pig Care book. Now I am searching through Guinea Pig groups, and learning as much as I can, about keeping the healthy and Happy.

    Love that you're dedicated to learning more about your piggies. So many people just listen to the pet stores clerks and then never do further research beyond trusting what the people at the pet store say. It's such an amazing comparison to have the pet store cage there, next to the c&c cage and then viewing your other video with the completed cage is just amazing. So great to see you so dedicated leading pet care by example :)

    Really glad you've done some extra reading, it's amazing what they'll tell you in pet stores. Hope they are settling in well. My three piggy girls, Tilly, Phoebe and Molly send your piggy boys kisses.

    Very cute guinea pigs and am SO glad you didn't listen to the pet store. I hate when the pet stores give out inaccurate information. That pet store cage is a great thing to save for a travel cage in case you need a trip to the vets with them.
    An excellent site for trusted information is Guinea Lynx :)

    omg, they are adorable! This is a wonderful video, congrats on your new piggies and you are an awesome owner. It always wonderful to see when people take the time to learn how to care for these guys, they live such more fullfilled lives than being alone in a tiny cage. One of my boys is from petco, he was on clearance for $9 because he was blind, he didnt understand veggies either when I got him, but now he loves them and hes such a sweetie. Also, just some potty "training" info to help, guinea pigs eat and potty at the same time, so if your going to have a liter box area in the cage, its ideal to have it in the hay area, or under the hay bag if you have one when you change to fleece. The majority of the mess will be in the "kitchen" area. Hope that helps!

    Ahh! I have three little guinea pigs and i'm so happy you have two. They are great loving animals. And good on you for doing your research, those small cages are so bad for guinea pigs. Sometimes people get guinea pigs and don't know that they're more effort than just feeding and watering them. Love your videos and you just made my day

      Heather Wells Mine are all girls. They all LOVE banana peels and the actual banana. And carrots. And blueberries lol. Their favorite veggies are bell peppers though. And they love cucumbers without the seeds. as a general rule i don't give them seeds, peels, stems or leaves unless i know for a fact they can eat them. Ahh i am just so exctied for you c:

    Hi Heather. I just subscribed to your channel and I love your polymer clay work.
    I stumbled upon this video and I just had to comment. We had guinea pigs years ago when the kids were younger. We had 2 of them and we were told that they were both males. Unfortunately one was a female and fairly soon we ended up with babies. We really enjoyed our guinea pigs as I am sure you will. Even our other pets including the cats and the dog enjoyed the guinea pigs and watching your video makes me want to go out and adopt some new ones. Ours loved all the veggies and lettuce was their favorite.
    I love your setup that you have and your ideas for their habitat. We unfortunately did not have the space for anything that wonderful so they had something slightly bigger than the first one that you showed us. We took our piggies out a lot and they played and walked around with the other animals while we cleaned their cage or just for play time. We would also setup a cage with no floor outside in the summer so they could get some time outside. Enjoy them while you can. The vet told me they have a short life expectancy. Our male lived for six years and the female was 3 or 4 I don't remember now. This was nearly 20 years ago. lol
    Anyway thanks so much for all the videos. I am just getting started with polymer clay, I haven't even received my first batch of clay yet but I've been watching hours and hours of videos and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Everyone makes it look so easy. Due to some health issues I'm unable to work outside the home so I'm trying to find things I can do that I enjoy to bring money in the home. I already make jewelry, resin, buttons/magnets/flatbacks, and I thought polymer clay would allow me to make some of my own focal beads. Hopefully, I'll be able to open my Etsy store soon... as long as i can stay out of the hospital. :(
    Thank goodness for the RUclips community.

    Hi Heather, nice to see you again. I just thought I would mention but I'm sure you already know but you can get the ringworm from them. I recently got a new puppy from the pound and it came with some health issues. It had diarrhea for two weeks. At first I thought maybe it was the change of food but when it didn't go away I took her to the vet. The scary thing is she could have had giardiasis which is something that even humans can get. Luckily it was just a little stomach issue and after taking her pills she's all better. Your little pigs are so cute, enjoy them. Take care, Dee😊👍

    They are very cute :-) and yes they do need plenty of room and also a companion :-) you good look into a hamster ball where they are inside and are able to roll around the house following you ;-) my friend did this for both his hamsters and gunniypigs too :-)
    Would love to see the finished home for them when you have done it :-)

    • @faolen1
      @faolen1 8 лет назад +1

      +Angela Herremans I know this comment is 3 weeks old but I had to reply. Hamster balls are a big no no for guinea pigs. Their little spines aren't as flexible as other rodents, and hamster balls can potentially seriously injure a guinea pig. :( Sadly pet stores will often try to sell them with guinea pigs.

    • @dawsie
      @dawsie 7 лет назад +1

      I was not aware of this as I said my friend uses them for his and they come in different sizes and he's never had problems with his. I have asked him about this and he said that they have not had a problem as long as the ball is the right size for them if it's too big it gets away from them and can flip them around and they could get hurt because of this.

    I do my Polymer clay stuff on the table behind them. So.. You may hear their squeaks from time to time in upcoming tutorials. I am planning on Allsorts, and I am trying to think of something else for Valentines. Then I will be doing fruit canes, and my fruit platter (using the same platters from the veggie platter). I want to catch up this month and want to do at least 5 tutorials in February, then start getting ahead and eventually produce 2 a week. Hopefully as the weather gets warmer, everyone in the house will get healthier.

    I have two 7 mth old piggies and just bought a 8 wk old, that pet shop was talking such rubbish they need to have at least another piggie with them and as for the cage huh! I have the same cage as you and I use fleece bedding, I don't buy them but sew them together myself ... Much cheaper, I'm still learning, I was going to get an adult rescue but was told they may not "gel" but a baby would be ok and they are fine , I have photos on my Facebook wall, the GUINEA PIG FORUM is a great site , have a look . Happy piggying lol xx Sue x

    Yeah never trust most of the workers at the pet store. They just want to sell you something. I learned that the hard way with a pet fish. I wanted something to help keep my goldfish tank cleaner. I had started out with two feeder goldfish but they grew so big I ended up with a 45 gallon fish tank to keep them in. The guy there told me a common Plecostomus and said it would be just fine in my unheated tank. Wrong. It died within the week. Upon further research I realized it was a tropical fish and needed a heated tank. I cried because I am one of those weird people that loves all their pets even if they can't be cuddled. :P I was really angry and called to tell the manager what happened. I also informed him I would never shop at any of their stores again. I believe it was also a Petco.

      Bel Ban Perhaps then they sold me the wrong fish. It did look like one though. At any rate I will never trust what they say anymore and do my own research first before getting a new pet anything. Glad yours lived and grew big. That is what I was hoping for. He was so cute I loved him instantly.

      +BlackCat2 Thank you for sharing your story. I once worked at a reptile shop. They told me certain snakes to try to sell to parents. King snakes, and corn snakes. After working there a short time I understood why. Those are cheaper snakes. However after handling many snakes, I thought those were the worst snakes for kids (in my opinion). I thought snakes that were slower, and more content to hang out on your wrist were better. I am sorry that happened to you :(
      I don't own any snakes now.

      +Heather Wells I use fleece. It seems to be the best for them, and you can just sweep up the poos every morning or train them to pee and poo in a corner. I just chuck the fleece into my washing machine after shaking it out - if you add vinegar it cleans all the smell and grossness. We haven't had a problem and it's been 3 years!
