      When WW1 started, Hitler was in Munich at the time. Which Hitler didn't mind since he had a great love for Bavaria, and preferred serving in the German Army.
      He went to the conscription place in Bavaria, and for some reason they either didn't check his nationality, or Hitler convinced them to have him join the German rather than Austrian Army.

    So here is my theory. Would it be accurate to think that WW2 wouldn't have taken place without WW1? Sure Italy would still have Mussolini, but Hitler seems to have come to power specifically because of the after effects of WW1.
    With that thought in mind, and while I know this wasn't the only reason WW1 happened, do you think the assassination of archduke Ferdinand technically caused both world wars?

    • @MrTerry
      @MrTerry  5 лет назад +30

      Technically speaking, there wouldn't be a second war without a first war. However, the causes of WW2 were directly caused by the effects of WW1. If the terms of the Treaty of Versailles were different, and the handling of the end of WW1 in general were different, I think you would have seen a very different post-WW1 era. Would WW1 have been the War to End All Wars though? I doubt it.
      The Assassination was the spark to a conflict that was likely bound to happen. The nations of Europe were ready for war (see the acronym MAIN - Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, Nationalism). It almost seem inevitable.

    I firmly believe the British and French (as well as one of my most hated presidents Woodrow Wilson) were so unfair in the Treaty of Versailles to Germany, and so blatant ignorant about what they were doing. That most of the problems in the world today, and the chaos in the world stems from the unfair treatment towards the German Nation in 1918. It is also very clear that the only reason the Soviet Union came to power, and was able to exist, was also because of the Treaty of Versailles. Large numbers of British diplomats actually resigned over the Treaty, calling it all sorts of names.
    For people who don't know what was all in it, do your research, because before WW2 it wasn't a battle between good and evil, like some try to play out to be.

    • @Heligoland360
      @Heligoland360 5 лет назад +2

      Wilson and Britain were tempering forces in the treaty since they both wanted to keep Germany strong for trade as Germany was never really a threat to Britain and America.
      It was France that really pushed for German punishment and if they had their way Germany would've been broken up into many smaller countries like they had been previously. Versailles was the unhappy mid point; enough to anger the Germans, but not enough to destroy them.

When he was conscripted into the Austro-Hungarian Army, he journeyed to Salzburg in Feb 1914 for medical assessment. After he was deemed unfit for service, he returned to Munich. In August 1914, he voluntarily enlisted in the Bavarian Army. According to a 1924 report by Bavarian authorities, allowing Hitler to serve was almost certainly an administrative error, since as an Austrian citizen, he should have been returned to Austria.” Hitler later claimed he did not wish to serve Habsburg Empire because of the mix of races in its army and belief that the collapse of Austria-Hungary was imminent.

    As it was mentioned by other comments here... A.H. was avoiding the service in the Austro-Hungarian army. He saw it as weak multinational army. That would be my guess for the reason number one. Reason number two could be daddy-austrian-officer-issues. To spent certain time in the army was obligatory (with very few exceptions, mostly based on poor physical conditions). A.H. moved to Munich right after he got a call-up order. He was investigated for it (avoiding the obligatory service was a crime), but he managed to pass through it claiming he never got the order, because he moved before the mail got in.
    When the war started... he volunteered to the german army. Many people had idealised fantasies about the war, victories and heroism. A.H. was not exception. And he was pangermaniic thinking guy, he dreamed and believed all german people should be united under the rule from Berlin, instead of being inside of multinational Austria-Hungary, where Germans are only a part of much bigger population. But he was an austrian citizen and Austria was summoning all capable citizens to arms. A.H. had to ask the austrian command to allow him to join not the austrian army, but the german army instead. Which was allowed, germany was ally.
    So there is no contradiction in his avoiding the military service followed by volunteering. It all perfectly fit.

    I'm going to expect the role of douchebag and, at the risk of being labeled or sorts of things, say what must be said so people have a better context. Blaming the communists and Jews is not entirely unfounded. A lot of people look at events from the era with a retroactive perspective and modern mindset. Because of that a lot of people fail to see the logic behind why people of then came to the conclusions they did then. Germans in general (let alone Hitler) didn't just wake up one morning and say "Gosh I think today would be a good day to start hating X" You will become a target if your actions paint a target on yourself. With that I'll get to my point...
    The Jewish people are very nepotistic, many will admit this themselves and openly. They had no homeland and in my opinion it was sort of a survival technique to maintain their culture. While this in and of itself isn't bad, it becomes a problem when it comes in to conflict with the interests of the host nation. During WW1 something called the Balfour declaration was signed, and this is not a conspiracy theorist talking point, Jacob Rothschild has it displayed in his house and you can find not only pictures of it, but a video of Jacob Rothschild himself confirming it (the conspiracy theory part is if it was used as leverage to get the US involved). What the Balfour Declaration said was essentially Britain would allow the Jews to set up a Jewish state in Palestine. Palestine belonged to the Ottoman Empire at the time and would become a spoil of war for Britain should the Entente win the war. Because Jews in general are nepotistic, regardless of their nationality, Britain winning the war became in their best interest, and they aided Britain in any way they could. Britain dropped propaganda leaflets over regions in the Central Powers with large Jewish populations in Yiddish laying the whole thing out. And it worked like a charm, the majority of the Jews in Germany and it's allies did everything in their power to undermine the German war effort. Banks stopped lending money, factory workers went on strike, business owners stopped selling to the German government, news organizations began to print anti-German propaganda, etc. Now put yourselves in the shoes of a German of the era. This group of people you have graciously allowed to live in your nation is actively supporting the enemy. Germans were outraged at this (and in my opinion, rightly so). Take those feelings then multiply it by hyper-nationalism to begin to get a better understanding of the seething hatred.
    Next comes the communist question. This only poured gasoline on the antisemitic fire because Marxism (which by extension means communism) was created, funded, and propagated by Jews. Because of this the two go hand and hand (at least during the inter-war era). I have read a lot of communist literature and can say it's far more than an economic system like some claim. Economics is the selling point (no pun intended) but the system as a whole is an entire societal overhaul, even in things not related to the economy. Communism looks to destroy all that is old, both figuratively and literally. It sees it as the only way to usher in the new ideal utopia it seeks to create. Of course Jews were going to support this ideology because they were viewed as second-class citizens in Europe due to their nepotism and lack of integration, a new society where they would be equal with everyone else without having to conform to the old social norms? Very appealing. This is also why communism appealed to the disgruntled masses in general (not merely Jews). Hitler was extremely conservative, at least from a social standpoint, so communism's ideals and methods were pure evil in his eyes, and because as I said, the ideology was made by a Jew, propagated by Jews, and supported by Jews, he viewed it as a Jewish plot, one that is pure evil and must be stopped at _all costs._ And many shared his opinion, many seem to forget he had a lot of support _before_ he had control of German media, it wasn't all Nazi party brainwashing.
    This is only scratching the surface of it, there is a lot more to it, but I think it's enough to get my point across. And I feel it is important to touch on it because I am seeing history rhyming currently. If you don't step out of a safe space like Reddit, or you watch the mainstream media, for a couple examples. You will not notice the rampant antisemitism that is growing in the West currently, and it's more or less for all the same reasons. When someone who lives in a peaceful town all of a sudden has to deal with a bunch of 3rd world migrants, from an incompatible culture, that the state just dumped there on some order of a "Jewish American" politician, who displays no loyalty to the US, but tweets about how much they support Israel, hatred begins to build. And you can't argue with it really. "You're just racist!" is not an argument and only fuels the fire even more. There isn't something as drastic as WW1 occurring, so it's slower and quieter, but it's happening again.
