@@wtfdudekk Brass does not rust. I wonder if laminating strengthened the wood? Put small lead shot in the handle and red lock tight the threads. I think I would have also glued the handle and nut at the bottom. Otherwise a very good job. I thought he was going to turn the wood to make it round instead of a hex shape.
So the fittings are 1/2”. What size did you end up cutting each of the 3 wood sections and was there anything special you did when threading the wood to the brass fittings? Did you use any type of glue or epoxy after you threaded the wood and put the brass fittings on permanently?
The brass fittings look nice, but they would turn your hand green after a while. I would wrap the handle in leather, leaving the end caps exposed, to increase comfort and to prevent the discoloration that happens with brass
Awesome! What a great build! Perfectly executed and beautifully finished as always. Very good idea to use the fittings for your projects. I really like that a lot! Keep going, please. :-)
A brilliant build dude! The orange ply of the lamination really sets the piece off beautifully. It reminds me of the old school mountaineering and ice climbing axes. (Maybe that could be the next project?) Keep doing what you do!
Fucking right! Shillelaghs are the best!! I have yet to acquire a genuine piece of Irish Blackthorn, but here is an amazing affordable synthetic alternative: ruclips.net/video/A-9__xnV5_k/видео.html I've got one for long strolls through the woods as bears and cougars are a constant threat in my area and I have yet to pick up my firearms license. A club may not be ideal in comparison to a pistol or a shotgun, but I'd say it's the next best thing as it will sure a fuck split a bear or cougars head open with a well placed blow.
So simple yet beautiful at the same time I would have never thought to make something like that but I might just give it a try and use some darker wood maybe walnut or cherry they may be too hard to work with if so I’ll use some dark stain
So a lump of brass on a stick, what I think would be impressive is a bassicle a co2 can in the bottom of a cane that when you slamming into the ground pressureies the main shaft full with let's say lemmon jucie and that sprays it out in a cloud in front.
*I'm in Nigeria. My dad has a walking stick that has a two sharp edge sword given to him over 30 years ago by an Hausa tribe man. The sword is not only has two sharp edges but also has a brutally pointed tip. The walking stick is ugly and wrapped in some leather material with the stick or metal (I'm not sure which), inside the outer leather layer. It doesn't look like much and doesn't draw attention. That is until you see what lies underneath.*
Thats cool and all but it needs to be customizable for height and it needs some rubber or something on the handle so the bolts dont dig into your hand. Trust me, you need a cane to be ergonomic if your actually going to be using it every day and if its not the right length you can mess up your back.
BEAUTIFULLY done! What kind of wood did you use on that??? I never thought of using the brass fitting itself to set up the angle of the saw. BRILLIANT!
I have oak but when I looked at outvoting 2 pieces together it about perfect. If I put a small piece in the screw will strip out. If I put a full size in the center the edges will be too narrow and the threads on the fittings will strip.
I'm only 21 and I hope I don't have to use a cane any time soon, but now you gave me an idea for a project that will be nifty now and useful in the future!
I would add a melon being cracked open with the stick as well, just my 2 cents. The hollow parts could be filled, to add even more weight, but that's a bit overkill - nice stick!
If you're making a cane with the idea of self defense in mind wouldn't a solid wood shaft be much stronger? I don't know exactly what wood you used, but seems like the layers could crack apart with some basic use.
When that handle breaks flame temper the next one it will keep it from warping too. Thanks for the video it gave me the idea I needed to build my 10 to 12 oz. Brass hammer without using a solid piece of brass.

Tommy Apples yeah, but, cast brass pipe isn’t the best type of brass to use. I would have created the shape out to the pipe if that was the look he was going for. Create a mold out of the pipe and cast a solid piece. That way you could still have the look, while having the weight and strength.
@@DEATH_TO_TYRANTS Oh, I like that. The sand fills the voids. Good thinkin'! I've made a hammer using black iron pipe in a similar fashion to this cane handle, and been thinking of how best to fill it. That mix might be perfect.
