    I grew up Lutheran and attended Lutheran grade school and high school. When in grade school, a young student had to have heart surgery and sadly passed away during the surgery. Our entire student body attended his funeral during a school day and we sang this hymn. All 8 verses. I will never forget that. It made a huge impact on me! The words are deeply inspiring. Perfect for celebrating Easter and a loved one’s passing to eternal life. If we are in Him we can truly know our redeemer lives and be assured that one day we will see him face to face and forevermore adore HIM.

      @LauraBlack-cp2il, thank you for your witness about Jesus Christ. I went to Lutheran grade school K-8 and church for 30 years and I agree, this IS one of the most beautiful, inspiring, comforting. hope-filled songs for Easter, for funerals, and I might add, for throughout the year. tcg

      Didn’t grow up anything! Gave my life to the Lord, married a man who ‘decided’ to start going to church at. 19 and ‘happened’ to walk to a Lutheran church by his apartment. I took the instructional class and became a Lutheran prior to marriage. That was over 40 years ago! I am so thankful for the law and the gospel. These hymns preach the message.

    My mother after some experience in her early years became dissolutioned with the Catholic Church and sadly most organized religions in general, but she remained agnostic. I am incredibly thankful she was open to my decisions and supported me on my path to discovering myself and religion, and I am proud to know thanks to her that I have been a Lutheran for about 2 years now. I don’t know why I decided to write it but this hymn is truly a beautiful piece of music and faith, I pray your lives are going well.

    I’m a fifth-generation member of a Swedish Lutheran church near me and I feel so grateful for how lucky I am. My grandmother just passed away and singing at the church I grew up in- knowing she did too- is so special to me! They lived closer, but I’m an hour away- the drive is still so worth it to continue my family’s tradition at the church that is so important to us all! I have photos of my parents’ and grandparents’ weddings there. I can’t wait for mine, and to raise my kids there too :)

      God is omnipresent ,hes everywhere at once.

    1 I know that my Redeemer lives;
    what comfort this sweet sentence gives!
    He lives, He lives, who once was dead;
    He lives, my everliving Head.
    2 He lives triumphant from the grave,
    He lives eternally to save,
    He lives all-glorious in the sky,
    He lives exalted there on high.
    3 He lives to bless me with His love,
    He lives to plead for me above,
    He lives my hungry soul to feed,
    He lives to help in time of need.
    4 He lives to grant me rich supply,
    He lives to guide me with His eye,
    He lives to comfort me when faint,
    He live to hear my soul's complaint.
    5 He lives to silence all my fears,
    He lives to wipe away my tears,
    He lives to calm my troubled heart,
    He lives all blessings to impart.
    6 He lives, my kind, wise, heav'nly friend,
    He lives and loves me to the end;
    He lives, and while He lives, I'll sing;
    He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.
    7 He lives and grants me daily breath;
    He lives and I shall conquer death;
    He lives my mansion to prepare;
    He lives to bring me safely there.
    8 He lives, all glory to His name!
    He lives, my Jesus, still the same.
    Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives,
    "I know that my Redeemer lives!"

    Agree with your comments regarding the Lutheran church. In my Lutheran youth one would always look forward to choir practice and Sunday services where these old hymns were regularly included. At college in the South I would attend the Sunday evening informal service at the Methodist church where the first 15 or 20 minutes would be the singing of old traditional hymns from an old paperback songbook led by a men's chorus. Always thought these old traditional hymns do more to return us to the faith of our childhood than all the sermons and holy holies of todays church offerings.

    I was raised Lutheran and take great pride in it. BC i went through confirmation, my freshman year new and old testament classes were rather easy (learning all the books in the bible again wasn't too hard!) I went to a Baptist school for the first year and had to go to their services once a week and I just was uncomfortable with the big band style setup that they used. After several years of not going to church bc of political things that happen between members, i hear these songs and feel like ten years ago, 11 years old and hearing these songs weekly. Its very nice, thanks for posting these!

    Jesus died on the cross for you, he died for me. He died for the eternal suffering of sinners would end. He died on that cross to forgive humanity for all his sins; and yet, to this day, night & day repeat we sin & just spit it right back in his face. Yet Jesus continues to forgive you, no matter what. He didn’t die in vein, he died so that whoever just *BELIEVES* in God, they might not perish, and be granted eternal life in the kingdom of God, he died to that we could be saved by God, God sent him to die to that the believers would have one way to heaven: By Jesus & him alone as well as God’s grace. He lives to this day in everyone’s heart. In your holy name, Amen.

    The hymn was written by Samuel Medley, a Baptist. It belongs to ALL Christians (and even the Mormons sing it - whether we want to call them Christians is another matter). I was confirmed Lutheran at age 16 and still love Lutheran theology, even though I am now Anglican due to where I live. But we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, whether we are Lutheran, Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Orthodox, etc.

    Seems a push in many churches to push aside great hymns and have praise bands with drums, guitars. Folks, its not a rock concert. For those who want to rock, go see ac-dc or Rush. Our legacy and heritage is eroding away.

      This musical setting is by John Hatton (1710-1793). The melody is called Duke Street. I'm Lutheran, and like Jana Hagen below, familiar with this version. One of my favorite hymns. There's another musical setting by Lewis D. Edwards (1858 - 1921).

      jbsmg The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings a different tune to this song "I Know That My Redeemed Lives." It is powerful. If you like this version, I think you'll like theirs as well.

    Samuel Medley was not 😇lutheran. He was an English Baptist minister and hymn-writer.

    When did it become “cool” for the Lutheran churches (even LCMS!!) to dump the hymns for more modern music. It’s awful.

      Right, even the LCMS. I am Wisconsin synod and if I get a hint that that they are turning from the true God Of the Bible I will be gone. Most other Lutheran synods are already lost, not just with their music. God be with you Alisha.

      It's really a shame that a cult church has such a great choir. What would really be great is if they would renounce their false doctrines.

    The Father and the Son are the Parents of the Holy Spirit, if many churches are correct. The Trinity is a Family-- two Parents and an Offspring, if many churches are correct. In the Bible, Jesus Himself said, " I and the Father are One".--John 10:30 On the topic of marriage in general,according to the Bible Jesus said "they are no longer two but one..."-Matthew 19:6

      @chicago man , Read the "Athanasian Creed," which explains the Holy Spirit/Ghost. The Holy Spirit Is. Not. The. Offspring. Of. The Father & Son (implying an abominable act).

    How is it an "Evangelicult" Lutheran song and not just a Lutheran song? I don't think people used the word "Evangelicult" when this song came into being, was it? Doubt it.

    Easter Sunday wasn't Easter without this hymn. I'm not very fond of this version, it sounds pretty sad. It's supposed to a joyful anthem sung with enthusiasm and spirit. The organist plays it kind of slow too.

    • @Undamaumberella
      @Undamaumberella 4 года назад

      Actually, it is much nicer when hymns are played at a tempo where one can take a breath and also allow the words to sink in. The words are, after all, the most important. This was reverently sung and played.

    • @Undamaumberella
      @Undamaumberella 4 года назад

      @John Sluder Never mind the congregation. Is the truth preached in the church? Does the reverend/minister/pastor practise the true Christian life? Although human nature wants to base a congregation off its people, what is taught and preached is most important for salvation regardless of what others do.
