Honestly, I think getting a custom bike is just an extra headache for most people. If you're not very nerdy and picky about bikes and can find a bunch of ready made bikes that'd work for you, don't do it. You're very likely to find the process annoying and chances are you'll end up with an expensive bike that doesn't quite work for you. But if you're looking for a new bike with an exhaustive list of requirements and there isn't a single bike that fits them all, go for it. Chances are you'll like the design process a lot and end up with a perfect bike.
I got a custom titanium frame built by Waltly last year. Best bike purchase ever. Fits like a glove and rides like a dream. Picked all the parts and built the bike by myself, too. Love the bike so much that I'm planning to get another frame from them at some point in the future. Made a few little mistakes when designing the frame, but nothing that has prevented it from working as it should or that has reduced my enjoyment of it.
Mentioned it here before, but my super short 4'10" wife has a custom fitted, custom built steel gravel bike from Rodriguez Cycles. Velospec steel, handbuilt wheels, 1x, dropper post, velo orange front and rear racks, super light, it's the nicest bike I've ever seen.
I ride a Coconino (650B mtb) made by Steve Garro in Flagstaff, AZ. The fork is custom as well, made by Vulture, a.k.a. Wade Beauchamp in Bend, OR. I've had this bike since 2013 and I still give a "Yeehaw" every time I ride it. The best thing about both builders is I have known them since 90s and did epic rides together so both knew my passion and riding style. The hardest decision was color. I still hadn't made a decision when the bike was nearly ready to go to paint. Finally Steve pointed to a bike belonging to his wife and said, "That's a nice color." So that's the color we went with Signal Orange with a gold flake overlay. Yeehaw!
I’m lucky enough that my “bike fit” works on most standard 56cm frames. The only thing that a custom built frame would get me is a custom tube set for my weight/riding style. My list of dream builders goes something like this, in no particular order. Richard Sachs Dario Pegoretti Tom Ritchey Vanilla/Speedwagen Independent Fabrication
Curtis Ingalls . My 6+ years Retrotec Fundero 29+ . Makes me feel like I'm 10 years old bombing around on my old balloon tired bike rolling over everything.
Me! I’m building an ATB. Titanium and bamboo. With a pinion C1.12i belt drive sram dropper post and lyric fork. Silent sprag drive hubs. Wooden MTB rims. Byrd spokes. 14 degree Backsweep handle bars. (I went through about 8 bars before I found the perfect Backsweep for my wrists)
I have 2 custom bikes. A carbon and Ti. In 60 years of cycling, I never knew the joy/pleasure of having a bike fit my geometry. I decided to get another custom steel next year. Probably won’t get another until a way to take your stuff with you becomes available.
I’ve been working with. Bilenky cycle works for my custom touring bike and she ships to me on Monday, your right it is an amazing process. Stephen the builder has been great, I live local to you Dustin it would be cool AF to meet for at least part of a road ride and I can tell you about my bike. ❤
My dream custom bike is Rychtarski, it's a Polish bike manufacturer. Maybe one day. Also, always drooled over Landsharks and Rock Lobsters, but US manufacturers are more expensive of course.
Heh heh - This video is about custom bikes (Big Money) You mention the place that sells Ozark Trail 700C G.1 Explorer Drop Bar Gravel Bike for $250. What if that bike fit?
skip all these steps and just give Marino the geometry of the bike you've most lusted over, regardless of if you've ridden it, and then just change the HT angle to 57 degrees for good measure.
If I could afford it, Framework Bicycle in Hamilton Ontario. Realistically I can't justify it so an off-the shelf bike is what I'll end up in my current search for a gravel bike to add to my Optic.

Beautiful bike and another awesome video. I have a production Rodriquez that I love, but I would love to get a bike built by John Fitz, Paul from Rock Lobster, or maybe a Breadwinner someday.
I’ve been riding for a long time and some nice bikes. Did a custom at one point. Think I did it right, and it was a beautiful bike, but to be honest I wasn’t wowed. Call me a commoner but my two favorite bikes have been a Trek Madone and a Checkpoint. Don’t get me wrong those are sweet bikes you’ve got. Maybe I’ll try it again one day. Too many great bikes out there!

@@EverythingsBeenDone Thanks, I'll check it out. I'm doing my next tour on a priority 600, but the next bike will be custom fit, as I have a short inseam and most bikes have terrible standover for me.

Living on the West Coast I'm 100% sure that I'd get more use out of the gravel bike, but goddamn the Mariposa bikes are something to look at and I just want one.
I'm a couple of weeks away from a custom Naked gravel bike, working with Sam was both insightful and inspiring. He's a true craftsman. Going to Quadra Island for the bike fit was an added bonus, looking forward to going back for the first back-road test ride!
I have a titanium Mosaic, delighted with it. None of the handwringing described in this video. Problems with the carbon bike I had damaged its frame, but happy with its fit (had a fit before I bought it). I use rim brakes, wanted to transfer all my components, difficult to find new carbon rim brake frame sets. Shop suggested getting a rim brake Mosaic made with basically the same dimensions as my carbon bike. Color was easy, I like the subtle look, practicality, and light weight (no paint) of brushed bare titanium with black carbon forks and etched logos. Complete bike weighs ca 17lb, carbon one wa 16. Took ca 6mo to get it, used my winter bike while waiting for it.
@@EverythingsBeenDone I DIdnt go for them this time and now im kind of wishing i did as its an amazing bike and i want to ride it in all the fun places all over the world. But its a blast, comfy as heck, tire clearance for days, and is purple which is the best color obviously
