    Love your channel (subscribed). If I were to utilize the 'third planer method' on your related video, that is to tie the planer off to a cleat. Then I would not have to be concerned with braid necessarily one way or the other. That was supposed to be a question, not a statement. Thank you

    The only real question I have regards retrieval of the planer on the third method. Do you just stop the boat and unset the planer, or is there some better trick to getting it to stop digging?

    • @ScottBonnerOutdoors

    Been thinking of running a 40' planer off the stern cleat, then double snap swivel/rubber band setup to send a DTX 220 Minnow that also dives to 40'. Theoretically, I would be able to get the lure 80' down - will this work? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    Love your channel (subscribed). I am assuming that braid is preferred as main line for two(2) reasons. First, it would proper to work with planers as it is not going to stretch and as a result make the 'planer trip' more manageable. Second, it seems that braid is preferred for the smaller knots required to flow through rod guides when planer bridal is integrated into main line. Do you agree or have any other related comments. Thank you for your time.

    • @ScottBonnerOutdoors
      @ScottBonnerOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! Yes those reasons are a huge part. Braid cuts through the water so much better than mono does causing less drag. It also allows the planers to stay deeper in the water

    • @johnloebell377
      @johnloebell377 3 года назад +1

  • @planet4allofus

    Why not use a downrigger ?
    Way simpler , don't need the heavy rod and line to get the planer down on your main line.
    Yes , you'll need to purchase a downrigger but it's way easier fishing than dealing with a planer stuck to your main line.
    Pulling all those steel swivels through your ceramic guides while fighting a fish is less than beneficial.
    Look at some Great Lakes salmon fishing to see how it's done.
    Better than using huge reels with heavy lines just to overcome the force of the planer and you don't need to worry about tripping the planer due to your boat speed.

    • @ScottBonnerOutdoors
      @ScottBonnerOutdoors  6 дней назад

      I use downriggers as well but it’s situational. I use downriggers when slow trolling

  • @iankoenig7028

    Hi, for method 3, would you suggest/recommend:
    instead of having a "long leader" of 100 feet distance from the boat to the planer just using a "much shorter leader" of only 15 feet distance from the boat to the planner and thus placing the lure at feet from the boat ?(recommended distance for king = planner clipped to the main line at 100 feet from the boat + lure at 130 feet from the planer)!
