Thanks for the great videos Doug. When I bought my first side imager your videos taught me so much and gave me the confidence to go out and just tweak everything and not be worried. After all there's a default reset. Also that as conditions change you need to change your settings too. To get the most out of these new units it's not set it and forget it. Keep up the great educational sonar videos.
Yup, pretty much sold me on getting a Helix mega+. Great to see the split screen options and how that gives you such a great situational awareness of what's below you.
Doug......I follow all of your Humminbird tips and enjoy your videos. Question: last November (Black Friday) Bass Pro Shops had a great sale and I bought two Helix 10s with all the goodies (I thought). They were G2N versions. Now I am ready to add 360 Mega Imaging to my trolling motor. ( Motorguide until my cash flow catches up to buy Ultrex). But I was just told by Humminbird customer service that 360 MI is NOT COMPATIBLE with Helix 10 G2N (MI, DI, SI, Chirp, etc). Now what?! Seems my choices are: 1) take one Helix 10 G2N back and exchange it for a G3N, 2) Keep what I have and chaulk it up to impatience, 3) Find out what the incompatibility is if I do 2) and the impact on the 360 MI performance, 4) forget 360 MI and go to Garmin or Lowrance “Live Scope” (whatever they call it). Can you help me understand and make an informed decision?! Thanks, Jim Joyce. Jupiter, Fl
Just put the gen 3 on the boat this weekend. What an awesome machine! Thanks for the tips can't wait to get back on the water and try some of the tips. I can see a lot more playing and less fishing in te near future:(
I have the g3 mega unit on my trolling motor with the trolling motor transducer and it truly is amazing....the detail is insane...love your tips on the color palette and settings great stuff thanks!
Evan Miris I had to go with a Ram Mount but it’s awesome being able to swivel it 360! I have seen some awesome stuff so far, but aside from this video, not much info. Stoked for ya man, these things are wild! I call Hbird allot, the def help and are kind, just can’t wait for some pros/vets to run the Mega+ so we can get more info!!
Plan on getting a boat in the near future and Hummingbird units and Minnkota will be my choice of equipment to put on it!!! Thanks for the incredible video!!
These units look pretty amazing! I have a SI question for you.... at 11:45 youre in 30` with a side scan range setting of 100`....does that mean youre only side scanning 70` left and right? since the water column under the boat takes up 30` of your screen on the left and right...??
Doug - I just went back on rewatched this video. I am trying to learn more about unit. I don't see a DI or SI enhance option. I do have ability to change DI and SI sensitivity and contrast, but no enhance option so no sharpness control. Do you know of any reason why I don't have the enhance options on this unit? I have the options on older unit.
Do you miunt your own transducers or does a shop do it? I have tried over and over mounting a si transucer and its never perfect like i see here. Granted i dont have the mega yet but still have some issues.
So I just bought two of the helix 10 mega + g3n. One is the si and the other is the di. I got power to it in my house to do the updates and afterwards I tried going through all the different screens that u can set it too. I couldn’t get half as many different screens as u just did in simulation mode. Will I be able too once I get it all hooked up?
Your G2N is a great unit and I actually still run a G2N, This is the newest innovations from Humminbird. They are continually evolving and if the Hardware & Software can support the change they do make it backwards compatible. MEGA + is a hardware change...I know for sure it's different transducer and different internals inside the unit.
Hi! Can you mark the spot that you already passed? Like the tree that you see on the screen, that's allready behind you, and than later come to that marked point? thanks
New to fish finders and have a dumb question. With the SI transducer on the trolling motor, where are the images in relation to the boat as you’re trolling? If the boat icon is at the top of the screen, is all the images you see already beside or behind the boat? So for instance, if I see a tree come up on the SI and I want to fish that tree, how do I know exactly where that tree is in relation to the bow of the boat?
I got the helix 7 mega si & mega di g3 from bass pro today put it on, got every think ready and unit won't turn on going back tomorrow and exchange it ruined my day.I checked the plug and has power to end of power plug but no go.
I've got somewhere around 3500nm on my boat and yet i havent found one singel tree under it, usually we have trees in the forest here in Finland... where are you fishing?
I had a helix 12 mega SI G2N and upgraded to a new helix 12 mega SI G3N. I notice that the images and fish are now smaller depicted on the G3N. When I passed over a brush pile with the G2N in DI mode the brush pile showed up big on the screen. Same brush pile on the G3N DI mode shows up about half the size. Same thing with the fish marks. Any idea why??
I own and only fish out of my 13 ft fishing kayak full time now. Is the Helix 8 G3N Mega DI possibly too large and complicated for use out of the tight confinements? I won it in a tournament and may want to sell it so I can replace with a smaller Humminbird Unit ? I'll take the best price offer over $600 . What model would you recommend for tight Kayak conditions . I have a 13.5 ft Wilderness System's Slayer Propel
Doug, I am wanting to add a 3rd unit to my boat. currently running 2 helix 9 gen 1 units that are networked together along with the Minn Kota Trolling motor via the 5 port hub. If we were to continue using the 2 helix 9 gen 1 units utilizing the current transom mount transducer and added a gen 3 mega + si unit and mounted the new transducer on the transom as well would we get interference between the transducer frequencies underwater?
Hey Doug, I have a quick question maybe you can help me out with. When using the New GN3 Helix units with the New 112 Ulterra link, when you are using, let say "follow the contour", while on route and you catch a fish, if you hit spot lock, the boat with stop and lock in place. Now after landing the fish, is there a way to continue the route or do you have reset the follow the contour set up?
Personally my style of fishing I don't use Follow the Contour Feature much but when I have I always start over because I may want to make an adjustment based on the catch that just happened or change in conditions that made me spot lock.
Great video! A quick question ,i have a helix 7 g3 mega si di unit on my console on the front i have a basic helix 7 2d and gps unit ,on 2d sonar the echos are much clearer on the basic helix 7 compared to the g3 unit. I have changed the transducer settings on the g3 with no sucess ...any tips ? Thanks in advance paul.
the new dual spectrum chirp doesn't off the same coverage as the previous 200/83 kHz. Dual spectrum starts around 140 up to 240 so thats only a 42 degree cone on the wide spectrum unfortunately. Those looking for a 60 degree cone/chirp still need to utilize the XNT 9 20 T transducer. There is also no way to run the mega si+ ducer with that XNT 9 20 transducer. Its unfortunate that you can not select lower kHz settings with such an expensive unit
Your correct they made a change on HELIX G3 I didn't catch Narrow Range is 25 Degrees and Wide or Full is 42 Degree Coverage. I normally run all my units in Narrow so I get the added 5 degree coverage. I like the precision of Narrow Beam. Especially vertical fishing it helps me put my bait right on fish.
@@DougVahrenberg I found out the hard way. I'm a great lakes troller who wanted to utilize the Mega SI, but with such a narrow cone coverage on "Wide" I can't even come close to marking my deep down rigger weights. Wish Humminbird would keep an XD 50 kHz option with some imaging or build in the 83 kHz into their new stuff, or atleast come up with a proper y cable to run mega si+ with an xnt 9 20 T transducer.

Ok so I just got a new boat and everything is wired from the factory. We have two solix g2s one in the front other in the back, the one in the front is working fine with it being connected to a transducer on the trolling motor. The back unit though is acting up, the 2d works fine on it but the side scan and the down imaging doesn't work, I have everything on the back settings the same as the front (except for which transducer it is hooked to) and it just doesn't work, please answer back I'm trying to use it this weekend.
call me crazy but in Mega mode you can see the trees crystal clear but I can hardly see the fish, chirp looks 1000 times better and can see every fish. Am I missing something here or do I have a point?
Buy the biggest screen you can afford. You won't regret it. Bigger screen replace the need for second units. You can run everything you need to see on one screen. Your 2d sonar and down imaging should be used to cross reference each other on what's directly under the boat. I can't tell you how many times I thought I went over a fish only to find out it wasn't a fish on down imaging. And vice versa is true also. Side imaging is great for finding shallow water fish missed by 2d and down imaging. A big screen can run all three of these with good detail in each. Whatever you get learn how to use it to it's maximum potential.
The info here is great but the hyped up sponsor junk is a bit much... I get you’re paid my Humminbird but dial it down just a bit and it will come across more genuine

Works pretty much out the box with a few tweaks. Of course lake master

Thank you for the great video on this great product. Sounds like you have just as much fun playing around with this Hummingbird as fishing! :)
Great stuff! Mark. Purchased the 8 mega+ not long ago. Still in the tweaking mode. So far it's a great under water spyware toy/tool.
I have the g3 mega unit on my trolling motor with the trolling motor transducer and it truly is amazing....the detail is insane...love your tips on the color palette and settings great stuff thanks!
Glad they helped and thanks for the comments
Wow PERFECT timing! I just picked up the 8" with Mega+! Thank you, it's my 1st graph so I've got, well, everything to learn lol!
I just bought the same unit as you , have to fit it on the boat . Can't wait to learn how to use it , hopefully it gets me into more fish . 👍

Doug, I just got a 9" Mega G3N Down Imaging unit without a transducer. What transducer would you recommend for a trolling motor mounted transducer?
Doug, Do you recommend using the Trolling motor transducer, or will the standard in the box transom mount work on the trolling motor?
The MEGA+ Transducer has added shielding and will work with adapter or Transducer Shield and Saver on the Trolling Motor.

If you put a lakemaster chip in one of your units and they are all linked together will the lakemaster mapping be on all the units?
HELIX will not share mapping does not have that ability. SOLIX uses a different Operating System and can Share Map Data.

Hi , with one you think is the best - GARMIN ECHOMAP Ultra 126SV + GT54UHD OR Humminbird HELIX 12x CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N
What connected transducer did you put from your menu?
How do you get SI andDI to work on the same unit? Which unit do i have to purchase to make this happen?
Is that enough screens and screen space? At what point does one fish with these things?
Hello, can you tell me - 9 inches also has a zoom ratio?
How do you set a waypoint on the fish and go back and fish them on down imagining
How well does 2d work on plane? My g2n lost bottom at 10mph and higher no matter how or where I mounted my transducer.
I know this might sound really dumb..but where do I know where everything is based off where my transducer is in relation to the unit's screen?
What lake master chips do you run in your helix?
the new dual spectrum chirp doesn't off the same coverage as the previous 200/83 kHz. Dual spectrum starts around 140 up to 240 so thats only a 42 degree cone on the wide spectrum unfortunately. So if I go to the Humminbird thing I got auto chart?
How does mega+ compare to Lowarance Active imaging?
Love the info, but wish there was a AWESOME filter button … Jeez
Is the difference between the G3N and G3 the N means new for upgraded G3?

Are all Gen 3 helix units mega +
Why should you use 455 or 800 khz instead of MEGA? in what kind of situations?
You can make detailed mapping with 90 more dollars.
Your Humminbirds are corrected
For the same money a helix 12 or a solix 10 ?
That's a Tough One. I like added screen size but the SOLIX has some added features and Touch Functions help speed up efficiency of use.
