Something interesting I noticed when rewatching this movie is that the "Naughty" and "Nice" selling point of Pooka and not knowing what he'll be is supposed to represent being in an abusive relationship. You never know what you'll get when you talk to him, naughty or nice Pooka. Sometimes he'll be nice, or sometimes he'll lash out.

You can tell they did research on the Pooka/Puca/Phooka etc. mythology for the film. There's a lot of themes in the film that ties back to the mythology of the pooka. 1. As many have already noted, the Pooka can signal good or bad fortune. 2. The Pooka is typically a morally gray faerie. At times malevolent, at times benevolent. Not only does this tie back to Wilson as a person (he can be the nicest person in the world, or cruel), but it also ties back to Red. It's likely her fault that the crash happened due to her drinking, but they do a good job humanizing her and showing that she's not a bad person. 3. The Pooka is a shapeshifter trickster. It's constantly brought up that Wilson is a liar (trickster) and it seems like he can almost change on a dime from nice to mean. Shapeshifting. 4. A major aspect of the Pooka lore is the propensity to transform into a colt and taking the rider on a crazy and terrifying ride before bringing them back to where they were when they got on the pooka's back. I believe this is why we start at the end of the film, Wilson goes on a crazy and scary ride, and ends up back at the start of the film, at the crash, right where he was when the Pooka started its crazy journey. It's also worth noting that you have the ability to control the Pooka while on its back, much like you have the ability to control your destiny if only you really try.
Pooka reminds him of the good old times when he started dating Melanie and everything was great. After his Pooka gig was over, that's when he probably moved on to bigger acting roles and became a red carpet worthy actor (as seen in the living room portrait), but that's also when his relationship with Melanie started decaying, ultimately leading to his family's death. So it makes sense that he seeks refuge in his Pooka days memories, where he feels happy and safe (even though "naughty" Pooka represents his anger issues), but unfortunately he can't change the events that happened afterwards, so, even in reliving his memories, things are still bound to go downhill eventually. Ps. Or maybe he was a big actor first, met Melanie, became a failed actor, and then became Pooka. Or, maybe he never had a job as Pooka and this whole Pooka gig only happens in his imagination as a coping mechanism, trying to rewrite the past in his mind.
My husband and I revisited this during the holiday. We think the same thing. It's interesting because we wonder if his gig ended the way it actually did. We don't think that in real life, the Pooka gig (if it came first) actually ended with a malfunction, especially since the malfunction was repeating the phrase from the beginning and end. We think it may have just come to a natural conclusion. I'd say "maybe the repeated phrase was something else, and maybe it was, but the toy itself isn't just over afterwards, and we know this because of the sequel. So that fact makes me dubious that it even malfunctioned at all (unless maybe I forgot something mentioned in the sequel)

He still does have anger issues but got even more angry when she sat in the back and threatened their relationship or he was to distracted on why he did it to pay attention to the road. Hey! I honestly doubt you'll see this but there's this movie. The Night Eats The World (2018) and I absolutely enjoyed it. I would just really like to see if you watched it and that if you haven't you should. It's a zombie thriller that mostly focuses on the human psyche of a man who barricades himself in this building in France. It was a refreshing outlook from a different perspective of the apocalypse, and the film had a really cool concept for the zombies. So I thought I'd just recommend it just to see if you've watched it honestly :)
Technically pookas or púca are more rabbit-like, sometimes described as looking like dogs or cats. They neither bring good or bad fortune. Quick bit of mythology fun facts there.
You are fantastic at explaining these movies. I wasn't too lost tbh but your explanation helped piece tons of it together. You've finally won my sub. Go on...Take it.
I find Pooka cute with the blue eyes, but the red eyes are so scary they make my spine shake so hard I got paid to be a massage chair. (My back would be on someone elses back)
Dude got in a car accident due in part to his anger issues. The movie takes place in a dream he had while being rescued where he reconciled with his loss and his own part of the accident. The last few people he saw feature prominently in his dream, from his wife, to the woman his car collided with to even the rescue worker who saved him. Pooka was his way of coping with shit. It was him all along and he had to accept that and that's the journey he went on through his dream.
Ugh dude you are disgustingly good at what you do lol the other "explained"s I've seen on this literally do not come remotely close to explaining absolutely anything bravo sir haha
*s p o I l e r s* There is a episode on criminal minds that is similar to this, a murderer breaks into people's houses and burns some psychoactive plants in the vents causing the people to kill others but from there perspective, a bird-like demon creature is killing them, one of the victims claims he was raped by it, even though he was perfectly fine. I forgot the episodes name and season but it shows there are truly jacked up people out there
I think Wilson has created his own private hell. He’s stuck reliving that nightmare over and over again. He may be dead or insane after the accident. His mind and memory have taken in all the surroundings and are stuck in loop. I don’t think he will get a second chance to avoid it imo. This story is crafted really good.
You should do a end explained of 2009 horror movie Orphan. It`s a really great movie and I really want you to explain both the end and the alternative ending.
Shiny Kingdom lol yea i cant remember the real cases name and stuff but i can look it up and give you a summery if youd like hun its really intresting its a real birth defect to look younger thenyou are even to that exent
it could be that the main character started off as pooka, got rich, met his wife and her kid, got them pooka things, pookas ended up being defective, pooka trend died, main character losses his job, losses money, become depressed, becomes angry, takes it out on wife and wife's kid, and then all the rest of the story happened. main character feels better in the pooka suit because when the suit was around times where better.
I haven’t watched any of this video or know anything about the movie, but it just makes me imagine the little red guy from dig-dug (named Pooka) being the main villain in a horror movie.
Fun fact, The pooka * púka, puca, phooka * Is an Irish cryptid that's a shape shifting fairy or spirit that pranks others. Usually not meaning to harm others, they can talk and give knowledge. Bless, or curse. But In some stories they will go after people and eat them.
It was S4 episode "Black Museum." One of the stories was a mom died, and they placed her consciousness in a teddy bear, and she could only say certain phrases.
You want another show with an exclamation mark in the title? You should watch "Happy!" on Netflix and create a FoundFlix on it. It'll be perfect for the holiday.
It's about this ex cop who has to find a missing girl who was kidnapped by a meth Santa. Along his journey, he faces a lot of ridiculous and far-fetched situations along with his newly acquired flying purple unicorn. I don't want to give too much away. It's dark with humor, action, and drama. It's also got some supernatural aspects to it and if they don't make a second season I'm going to be sad lol. Watch it on Netflix, it's one season and they don't leave you with a cliff hanger.
Don’t forget, I believe the colors of their outfits also shows red or blue depending on the situation. Like when Melanie finally told him to leave he was blue and she was red although the walls on her side where blue and his side red meaning he acted nice but really had bad intentions while Melanie acted ‘naughty’ but had good intentions.
I really did not expect this movie to be that deep or have any types of layers. Honestly seems like a good movie. But then again all movies seem a hundred times better when explained in this channel. Can you do the new netflix move "Bird Box?"
That's a good one, I feel that it's a better Quite Place. Not that Quite Place is bad, just similar theme.
Edit: To those unable to understand it, I've purposely spelt "Quite" instead of "Quiet". I could change it, but won't as that wasn't a mistake.
@@StephenHenryIV seen it yesterday I love that movie we really aren't free n that movie tells u the free ones in the move was the birds in the box n outdide period humans arent free cause of humans I loved the concept

@@StephenHenryIV What's "Quite Place"?
You had the same idea lol
I like that the cop cars have red and blue lights just like Pooka's eyes. Also when the dad beats him up in the Pooka cloths I wonder if that's a reference to Mr. Bloby.
Oh, I remember that! I remember how Blobby was beat up because he destroyed a birthday cake. Yeah, fuck that guy!
Defiently caught my eye. Ill check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
Where can it be watched?
@@JLP2224 I think you can rent it. That or watch it on Amazon prime if you have a prime account like I did :)
@@doopanight7831 it was a pretty good 1 and a half :)

Oh no! the furries have finally made their way to cinema
And its actually quite good..
No this is patrick oh no that’s phase one soon they’ll be in games

JakeTakesTheCakes how does the kids not notice that pooka is scary?
Not even gonna lie, when I first saw the movie's title, my brain went, "They made a movie about Anastasia's puppy?!"
That's why the name sounded familiar to me! Thank you!
I had the same thought when I first heard the title too!😂
I think we all need a creature explained or something from Netflix’s Birdbox.
Connor Kelley I luved bird box ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Connor Kelley the bird box creature has a face of a baby
Watched the movie and explained video and still don’t know wtf is goin on
Dude got in a car accident due in part to his anger issues.
"Has eyes made of headlights, and vomits motor oil." I just realized it after your explanation. It makes so much sense for the story!
Ugh dude you are disgustingly good at what you do lol the other "explained"s I've seen on this literally do not come remotely close to explaining absolutely anything bravo sir haha
*s p o I l e r s*
There is a episode on criminal minds that is similar to this, a murderer breaks into people's houses and burns some psychoactive plants in the vents causing the people to kill others but from there perspective, a bird-like demon creature is killing them, one of the victims claims he was raped by it, even though he was perfectly fine.

This story is crafted really good.

it could be that the main character started off as pooka, got rich, met his wife and her kid, got them pooka things, pookas ended up being defective, pooka trend died, main character losses his job, losses money, become depressed, becomes angry, takes it out on wife and wife's kid, and then all the rest of the story happened. main character feels better in the pooka suit because when the suit was around times where better.
Pooka is kinda like Furby, except it's somehow much more creepy.
It's Mothman As Teddy Ruxpin

Clarissa Oropeza good idea
Thank you for the video. I must’ve missed a few scenes because I was confused by the end. Now it makes more sense. I really like the actors in this.
I haven’t watched any of this video or know anything about the movie, but it just makes me imagine the little red guy from dig-dug (named Pooka) being the main villain in a horror movie.
Pooka looks like a character from fnaf
If a fnaf animatronic and a furby had a baby
Oh something that apparently existed once.
Funny enough Pooka is actually produced by Blumhouse, who are actually creating the fnaf movie
Is the fnaf movie still happening ?

Fun fact,
The pooka * púka, puca, phooka *
Is an Irish cryptid that's a shape shifting fairy or spirit that pranks others. Usually not meaning to harm others, they can talk and give knowledge. Bless, or curse. But In some stories they will go after people and eat them.
I kept thinking of pookie the stuffed bear from the Garfield comics.
That brings back some good memories
They should make a mystery version of it “POOKA?”
"Oil pouring out of his orafices like he has a sinus infection, or something" w- what do you think sinus infections look like,
I thought sinus infections made it harder to breathe.
Reminds me of that Black Mirror episode.
Which 1
I think the Waldo one.
It was S4 episode "Black Museum." One of the stories was a mom died, and they placed her consciousness in a teddy bear, and she could only say certain phrases.
Jaymie Conkle Oh, I haven’t gotten that far in the series, but that sounds interesting. I’m in season 3.
I really want an episode about "The Houses That Jack Built".
When I first saw this I immediately remembered the game Tattletail with the little furby things that do....things

Wait…what did they do😭
Bird box ending explained
After I saw it I was like "I can't wait for found flix to do and ending explained on this"
You want another show with an exclamation mark in the title? You should watch "Happy!" on Netflix and create a FoundFlix on it. It'll be perfect for the holiday.
misledtitan it’s such a great series
What's it about?
It's about this ex cop who has to find a missing girl who was kidnapped by a meth Santa. Along his journey, he faces a lot of ridiculous and far-fetched situations along with his newly acquired flying purple unicorn. I don't want to give too much away. It's dark with humor, action, and drama. It's also got some supernatural aspects to it and if they don't make a second season I'm going to be sad lol. Watch it on Netflix, it's one season and they don't leave you with a cliff hanger.
Can I just point out that the theme literally says: pooka me, pooka you, foreshadowing the future of the film.
I've never been so confused by a movie
Whaaat? It was very convoluted and clever though! I liked it, but that's just my opinion.@Adam West
You should watch mother (on Hulu)
dude your amazing!!!! I wanted to suggest this movie but I didnt know if you would lol thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
It's like "The 12 days of Christine" in the show "Inside NO. 9"
Damn. Movies always teaching us lessons
I really did not expect this movie to be that deep or have any types of layers. Honestly seems like a good movie. But then again all movies seem a hundred times better when explained in this channel. Makes me wonder if I ever really watch movies or I’m just staring at the screen sometimes. Thanks for this video!
