Has anyone done a test yet to see the actual GPH you can get from this with media present in it? The 404B which is what I have now was rated at 525 GPH, but when others tested it with media it would actually get just around 300 GPH. That is when it is new. My current 404B after three and a half years is getting probably closer to 150. Three of the four trays have actually completely dissolved as well around the circular opening. I have just ordered a HW-3000 from Amazon seeing it is rated at 793GPH. I am hoping it actually runs close to that with media. I would really like to be able to switch from three filters down to one powerful filter. This HW-3000 is rated at 793GPH, as long as it actually outputs close to what it is rated at it should work for me, which is why I am interested in seeing if anyone has actually tested it who owns one :)
I have the 3000 on my 150g freshwater tank..I was using two 304b canisters and now I'm using this and one 304b...the flow rate is definitely less once you fill up the trays with media...the best way to preserve more GPH is to use either the bottom tray or bottom two trays with mechanical filtration and the top two or three with biological. Don't put a filter pad in each tray the way they show you in the videos as that will negatively affect gph more. I have used the Fluval FX6 in the past and can honestly say that this filter is better..it's probably the best overall filter available on the market and for $125 you can't go wrong..if you seal the o-ring with silicone lubricant, it will last you a very long time.
@@GSP-76 Thanks for the reply. The unit definitely appears to be way nicer than the 404b. I received it and set it up no problem. The new way of priming and the individual shut off valves for input and output are really nice. So is the touch screen and built in UV scheduling. I mean it really is hard to complain for its features based on the price of $125, but the actual water output is definitely faaaar lower than what they are rating it at. You prime it by filling the intake tube via the cap at the top while the valve block is closed, then insert the valve block and it will start the siphon process to fill the canister.
Mine will be arriving in two days from amazon, interesting that you can adjust the motor speed, being new at this, is there a reason to set the speed to different levels.

If you want higher flow rate, your better off going with a sump and separate water pump/power head...in an enclosed canister, 800-1000gph is the maximum that will work.
That only really applies to bulbs that get super hot like old style car headlamp bulbs because the oil from your fingers can boil and cause the glass to fracture, it's unlikely a UV bulb in a canister filter will get anywhere near hot enough but better safe than sorry so I'd say put gloves on or hold it with some tissue just to be sure 👍
From what I’ve researched on the Sunsun and the Fluval is that the Fluval is a bare bones filter that moves a ton of water and the Sunsun is more of a updated version of the Fluval with some bells and whistles that 9 times out of 10 leak or just doesn’t work unless u throw more money at it. So in my opinion and for the money just save time and go with the Fluval and call it a day.
The chinglish in attempt to make sense of the display, and extreamly poor (failing attempt) is a deal breaker for me, I just refuse to bend backward that far. This along with the rice filled plastic failing with use of the (who knows if it ever worked at all???) UV light. Try finding someone who went to college in the US. It also fails to comply with the FCC part 95 spurious radiation radiated from the variable frequency supply, no shielding at all. I had to install extra equipment to isolate the electrical noise from my shortwave station. Makes me wonder if this is safe for my house at all. Nice try, did not fool this engineer. Hopefully in the future sunsun will gather some better market presence when they make these little but very cheap & important changes.

Hi, did you hear some noise when your filter are running? I have this filter too and it makes a louder noise than my old 402A filter. Thanks!
It's probably spiting due to the surface skimmer letting in air. I just took off the floating inlet and replaced it with an intake strainer.
Is there a bigger than this
If you want higher flow rate, your better off going with a sump and separate water pump/power head...in an enclosed canister, 800-1000gph is the maximum that will work.
Never touch a UV lamp with your hands :)
Why
The oil from your hands will burn out the bulb quickly
I know this is a demo but you never touch a UV light with bare hands
I hate this filter. I like the ones you prime yourself better !
These are waaaaaay too hard to start once you unplug them to change media. It’s way too difficult to get it going again
Ktoś w Polsce znalazł ten filtr gdzieś indziej niż na temporalis.pl/filtr-zewnetrzny-hw3000-lh-uvc-9w-wklady-p-817.html ??
To jedyne miejsce, które udało mi się znaleźć.
Can't hear you!!
The filters are great. Please stop putting the candy ass uv lights on them!!!!! They are a waist of time and space.
Why do you say that!?
@@xxx-nj9jp The UV lights on these filters do nothing at all and are used solely as a selling point. The water flow is to fast rendering it useless. Still a great filter.
Terrible. So many mistakes.
Electronics and water....bad combo. No thanks. I'll stick to their conventional filters.
And how are they powered, hamsters?
@@magzire Ummm...electricity????? DA
Electricity....Which is electronics and water! Lmao! His replied sarcasm of hamsters went right over your head..

So what your saying the Hamsters are at risk of ? drowning?
How do I know if my uv light is even turning on and working??
Yeah.please answer this
It's a simple timer that starts the moment you plug it in, and the uv icon flashes when it's on.
If you set it for 2 hours and plug it in at noon it will come on the next day at noon for 2 hours and repeat everyday unless the power goes out.
