I know you may not see this but it’s ironic that the kiddos are struggling with citing evidence in their opinion pieces, because many major journalists also STRUGGLE to provide evidence for their opinion pieces 😅 I’m glad you’re working on it with them and hopefully something just clicks for them and works out
I’m an elementary school counselor in MD & I am also feeling all burnt out already. We just had interims for the first quarter and the first time we will get a day off is the day before Thanksgiving… this is getting harder every year. Anyhow, in other news, I love all of the writing you are doing with your students. Our entire district is focusing on writing in our School Improvement Plans and I am trying to find small ways to help with writing in the groups that I lead. Thank you for all of the ideas!
Selah! Thanks so much for the encouragement. Feel free to share any ideas you come up with as well. We are in this together. Don't lose hope, my friend!🥰
I don't teach math, but I can tell you from previously experience with the curriculum AND the online platform/ diagnostics that the online stuff is soooo much better than the curriculum and what we have now for our school, which is Successmaker.
We just finished exam week and are now beginning Fall Break. It’s one day for us and two for the kids, but at least it’s a bit of a break. Lol! During this past exam week, we also had our book fair, an audit, snow cone truck Friday, and getting grades posted for end of the first nine weeks. To say we are tired is an understatement!🥴
Teaching writing has always been daunting to me, but I'm finding some much excitement now with it after starting to read a book called "Writing Essentials" by Regie Routman. Great read, highly recommend. Geared more toward elementary, but I have a lot of kids that come into 6th not ready for 6th writing, so I'm definitely able to use many strategies from her book in my classroom.
Check out the RACES writing technique if you haven’t yet. It has helped my students when composing responses using text evidence. I have it displayed in my classroom this year. 😊
Hello!!! I am also a middle school ela teacher in middle tn!!!! My kiddos are alwayssss playing basketball with their trash, so I absolutely love the basketball review game! What curriculum do you use? We use Wit and Wisdom... also did you make the review PowerPoint on your own or is there a template somewhere??
Hi, this is Alicia from CT and I'm writing because I am concerned about you and your health. I know you are struggling with health issues and you have not made an new videos, so I am hoping you are well. I will keep you in my thoughts ands prayers. Hope you are back when you are able to see.
I love your Bell Work/Morning Work ideas. Could you show an example of what that looks like please. Currently I use a writing prompt but it's not working out well. Also, could you show ideas for writing? I struggle with a\that and could use help. We do not have a reading or Writing Curriulum and no resources so I'm drowning. Thank you. I continue praying for your health. All the best. Alicia from CT
I teach 6th grade math in NJ. We use iready only on the computers for extra practice, I am not a fan of it. Long division is absolutely a challenge still. Our kids also struggle in their ela comprehension skills. Which is affecting our performance in math big time. I agree, I wish my job was more about teaching and not everything else. Break can’t get here fast enough.

What curriculum do you use? I am an ELA teacher. Right now, I use StudySync but that curriculum looks great. I also like how it spirals.
We use Wonders!

I teach 5th grade ELA!
