Hey Tony and friends! I just want to comment on what Tony said about there being no such thing as cheating in guitar. It’s true! 3.5 years into playing, I still struggle with barre chords due to hand and arm disabilities that cause chronic pain, weakness, fatigue, limited dexterity, and occasional tremors. I’m able to manage a couple of easy barre chords on their own, but I just don’t have the strength needed to get them ringing out clearly. It’s a major BUZZkill (pun intended!). Around one year into my guitar journey, I decided to be more flexible and realized it’s okay to play guitar in my own way. Where barre chords are concerned, I decided to substitute them with open, fancy and/or power chords depending on the chord progression and/or any licks and riffs that may have been involved. Focusing entirely on barring for who knows how many months/years into the future would have led to my getting stuck and giving up due to physical limitations beyond my control. Instead, I decided to use other types of chords where tabs called for barring. Using alternate chords made it possible for me to continue practicing songs while developing other skills and techniques that played to my strengths like strumming, percussion, exploring dynamics, developing my ear, etc.
It doesn’t mean I entirely gave up on the goal of mastering barre chords to the best of my ability, but substituting them with other types of chords has given me the freedom to temporarily set barring aside if I need a break or lets me work on barre chords at a slower pace while still enjoying other aspects of playing and making gains in other areas. Sometimes I feel a little bit disappointed when I see other guitarists using barre chords effortlessly just a year or two into their playing, BUT then I remember not to compare myself to others and that I have other skills and techniques where I excel.
Guitar is not a contest (except for when you’re actually participating IN a contest), and as long as I am equipped to play along to most songs, does anyone really care if I’m playing my chords one way vs other so long as the music sounds great?! Most people won’t even know the difference anyway! 😂
Perhaps I’ll master those barre chords someday, or maybe I won’t. I guess it’s no different than me knowing I’ll never play like a shredder . . . which I’m more than fine with because that shredder can’t play those insane runs without people like me handling the rhythm section. 😉
If anyone out there is struggling with something particular, play to your strengths by identifying other ways to get to your end goal. It doesn’t mean you should give up on that difficult roadblock, though. Just set it aside and come back to it several weeks or months later. Sometimes you’ll find that you’ve made some progress despite setting the challenge aside because you’ve improved in other essential areas in the meantime that will help you tackle the tough stuff. 🤓💪🏻🎸
Play smart and enjoy the ride, folks! Maybe Tony needs new merch that says, “There’s no such thing as cheating in guitar!” 😂😊
P.S. My apologies for the lengthy comment, but I really am hoping my experience will help some of my fellow guitar geeks out there. 😊

Beard does it best! I really enjoy the tone! Problem is, I know nothing about spider cones and whatever else you said about Mule’s cones, lol. Any chance you can make an episode that shows us different types of resonators from the inside out, and demonstrate how they work? I’m willing to bet some resonator brands would be willing to loan you some of the inner guts so we can have a look. Guitar science is cool!
I do hope to see Beard come out with some more affordable options of a guitar like this one. Would be great to make their guitars more accessible to all if they can find a way.
But really, I enjoyed your demo and the guitar itself. It looks and sounds great, and options are always appreciated!

I had the pleasure of playing one at Gruhn's about 4 mos ago. Like all encounters at Gruhn's there were others checking out guitars and so I fell into a little jam with a good finger picker and I was backing him on slide parts with this Beard Trailhead round neck. I was smitten. It's on my radar as my "next guitar" ...I agree, they nailed it with this one.

I've never been excited about a resonator as a solo instrument before hearing THIS instrument! :D THIS one has a sound I don't think I'd tire of, or find too narrow of scope of tone. Thanks for the demo! :D

I enjoy seeing your guitar demonstrations Tony. To be candid, I've never really gotten excited about resonator guitars. I guess I prefer the woody sound of a traditional acoustic guitar. I do have to say though, the sound on this Beard guitar you showed today is definitely better than most resonator guitars I've seen and heard in my humble opinion. I assume this one will be added to your guitarsenal? 🙂

We've got some pretty good luthiers here in Maryland, Paul Beard, Paul Reed Smith, Joe Knaggs... Paul Beard is an awesome dude, I called his shop one day inquiring about converting one of his signature Goldtones from spider bridge to a biscuit bridge, and he actually took the time(about 50 minutes) to discuss it with me. I decided against it, it's just too sweet sounding the way it is. Paul Beard is the man!

Hi Tony! I just ordered one of these guitars from Beard (Denny M) last week. Can't wait (to state the obvious!). Can you tell me what that music piece is that you are playing just at 8 minutes into the video, please. It's amazing Thanks, Bob

Tony, my wife will be upset if which I will, very soon pursuing the round neck. How was the action, and what string size and brand?
My guitar arsenal is now only 7. Started playing at 14. Currently 65 and love my guitars. Each one has a story if they could only talk.
Thanks for your videos they are very informative.

Hey you all hear Oliver Anthony? Thought with all the resonator shows I would throw a new artist to me out there that plays Gretsch resonator. His song Rich men North of Richmond is pretty cool.

Great that he brings attention to resonator/dobro guitars by playing one, but all the associated politics is repulsive.

I was a huge Clapton fan until his anti-vaxx messaging as things were starting to loosen up in the pandemic. He said he would not perform anywhere that required vaccinations. Having people in close proximity in such a deadly pandemic without the requirement of vaccination meant exposing his fans to undue risk. He didn't even state this as his preference; it was a demand, and he kept up with that nonsense. It was completely unconscionable IMO, and he has lost me as a fan for life.

    • @MashaT22
      @MashaT22 10 месяцев назад +1

Sadly, Clapton wasn’t the only musician who did that kind of stuff. It was very disappointing. I’m always willing to set aside politics to enjoy talented musicians . . . but to be so reckless and put so many lives at risk just was a tragedy. It meant people either risked their lives or missed out on amazing music.

He didn’t say people couldn’t get vaccines! Geez! He just stood for people making their own decisions. What is wrong with that?
